This Assisted Living Concepts Assisted Living facility (Austin House ) has for the past few years cut the number of staff attending residents even though the number of residents has risen; the quality, quatity, and variety of foods served has diminished under mandatory -- company directed -- budget cuts in food allowances and the "second" (weekends and some week days) cook is grossly unaware of the quality of food served; the quality, longevity, and morale of side has diminished markedly with the most senior, well-trained aides being demerited or fired in order to hire untrained, poorly trained, uncaring, inept staff. Some aides are scgeduled to work for 16 straight hours two weekend days putting residents at risk. Residents are threatened by "reassessment of points" resulting in higher daily costs whenever complaints are made or whenever a resident has a need -- short-term or long-term -- in spite of the facility being an assissted living facility which offers aid with :basic needs. No recreation or activities director has been hired, although one has been promissed for 5 months. No exercise is provided other than audio tape; activities posted on a calendar are fictious and never led or promoted by anyone working in the facillity. "Secret" deals are struck with new teneants while longer-term tenants are charged more and more. Family dinners and monthly family events have been abandoned for a once a year family dinner -- this year held on a Tuseday night when few family members, an NO out-of-town family members were able to attend. Aides have been found sleeping during nights when they are to be awake and aware; aides have "hidden" dso as not to be disturbed by a needy resident or family member. Numerous falls and injuries have gone for hours unnoticed or unattended to because mandatory "two-hour" sweeps of hallways have been abandoned.
Residents have been neglected by a company which touts a 34.9% gain in profits. All profits have come on the backs of numerous helpless senior citizens who are afraid of retaliation by increased costs assessed or by unsavory business and personal practices. AVOID THIS COMPANY

The facility makes promises to families and cannot possibly keep because of lack of staff. They have two (2) personal care aides for 45 residents. Security system is never on and residents have been found wandering down the busy street (4 lane) or have been found outside and fallen on the ground and unable to get up without assistance. My family member has been found in deplorable condition and appeared she/he had been that way for quite some time (hours). Medication is being given by a person with an extensive criminal record. There is not a dietician to plan meals for residents. Very unsatisfied with facility, all they give you is false promises.
