I had Dish network through AT&T for almost 2 - 2 and 1/2 years. I did not have any real problem that I could not live with until about 2 months or so when I tried to play a recorded program. The PVR/DVR froze and would not respond no matter which button I pressed on both the remote and on the box itself.I did the usual 'disconnect and reconnect the power' routine. The same 'freeze problem' recurred each time I replayed the recorded program. I called AT&T technical assistance and was told to erase all the recordings and re-record new programs. They would not give me an exchange box. I complied after making sure that they understood that I was not happy having to do so. About a week ago I wanted to watch a recorded program of the World Cup Soccer. The same thing happened.
This time I told the technical side that I wanted a new box or I would discontinue my subscription. They said yes they would but for a price -"to cover handling and shipping". I told them I was not going to pay for this they then offered to waive the charge if i would sign up for a 6 dollar a month maintenance agreement.
I spoke to the supervisor whom I had hoped would be empowered to resolve this. He said I was welcome to cancel and reminded me that if I did I would be missing the World cup Soccer completely as the date was 6/10/10 when all this was happening. The cheek of the man!!!
I cancelled my subscription and promptly signed up with the local cable network.
Now I am waiting for the installation date and will discontinue my land line and internet connection through AT&T. Since I haave an apple iPhone and a current contract I shall keep my celphone service. I will switch to my former provider T-Mobile when this contract ends. I shall get an android or a Window's based phone. At least Bill Gates will make more money for his charity which I believe Steve Job does not do.
