Billing for Service Never Used
First off I was living in San Diego, California in an apartment I just moved into and called AT&T to connect DSL internet service to the apartment. After several calls, department transfers, and repeating my personal information over the phone I got my account ready for connection. The next step was to receive my equipment and account details in the mail. Several weeks went by and I got no further correspondance from AT&T, no phone calls and no mail. My apartment is broken into burglarized and set on fire. As a result I moved from that address and returned to Ohio thinking that since there was never any service connected and no equipment delivered my AT&T account was never established. About a month after moving I recieve a bill for service. I call AT&T and explain the customer service rep. calls the warehouse where supposedly they have record if the equipment was delivered. We are on 3-way calling and the warehouse rep. answers with an attitude saying that the equipment was delivered and to "Get the customer off the line!" Out of frustration I hang up. I recently recieved another bill from AT&T the bill is for service up to the current date. I called back and spoke to another customer service rep she did the usual transferring me around, we spoke to collections...they cant put in a claim or cancel the billing...she talks to her supervisor...same story. After getting frustrated again I tell them to transfer me to the highest paid employee in the building, explain to them I am a US Military Veteran, and also say in addition to this bill being discarded I will be having my lawyer contact them... at that instant she calls her supervisor over and magically her supervisor is able to put in the claim and stop them from continuing to bill me. AT&T is NOT a new company nor do they have employees that know how to do theyre job, most of the time they cant even decide who is suppose to be doing what job. I am still in dispute with the company over the bill.

False Information from Representative
I have received a series of unidentified repetitious hang-up calls on my home telephone. I called AT&T to complain about it and inquire of them what could be done about it. They first gave me a non-existent or inactive number to call -- and when I attempted to call the number, it was "out of service." Next, after going through the entire rotary allotment of steps to reach an AT&T representative again, the representative told me to register with the Do Not Call List; she gave me 1-888-4r82-2122 (Not a working number). The AT&T person told me it would take place immediately. For a communications company, this is the worst customer service I have experienced. I finally went online on a Google search to register do not call -- no thanks to AT&T. It will be 30 days or so before the repetitious calls will decease -- AT&T should train their representatives to be more helpful to consumers of their products. This is not the first time but it is the first time I have reached this stage of desperation -- may just discontinue doing business altogether with AT&T -- which is inconvenient for me since I use their online service, their home phone and cell phone package.

Overcharges
I have been with Sprint, T Mobile, Verizon, Boost Mobile, and Net 10, and all of them were quite shady and either found ways to overcharge you, or else provided a really shoddy product or service.
And yet, not one has been as bad as AT&T. I received a Go Phone as a present, and immediately noticed something suspicious: the large button in the middle of the phone, which is normally a menu button, is in fact the network button, and if you hit that button - even for a second - you get charged 27 cents. I remember clicking it thinking it was a menu button, only to see a display featuring ring tones and graphics that you can purchase. All cell phones have a menu of ring tones & stuff you can buy, but not one charges you to simply view them. Well, AT&T does! You cannot even view their available ring tones and graphics for sale without getting charged for merely browsing them!
Next, all phones start charging you the minute you connect. Not AT&T! AT&T starts charging you the minute you hit "send", whether you connect or not! They automatically tack on an additional 30 seconds to your outgoing calls. They do not charge you by the timer on the phone, or the minute minder feature. Thus, a 30 second phone call will cost you 2 minutes!!!
Also, when you add minutes, you can only keep them for 2 weeks. then you use them or lose them. Most companies let you keep your minutes for months or even a year.
Also, the demo games are supposed to be free. Not with AT&T! they will charge you a penny every time you play a demo game!
I have complained about them to the FCC, and suggest everyone else do the same or else don't ever use AT&T!

AT&T IS A BIG JOKE!!!
MY WIFE AND I HAD PLACED AN HIGH SPEED INTERNET ORDER FROM AT&T. THEY ARE A JOKE!!! THE TECHNICIAN WHO INSTALLED OUR PHONE LINE WAS AWESOME IN WHICH HE HELPED ALLOT. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE INITIAL HOOKUP WE STARTED HAVING CONNECTION PROBLEMS. FROM THERE ON IT WAS A HEAD ACHE. THE MODEM NEVER RECEIVED SIGNAL FROM THE CENTRAL OFFICE?????? OK...?...ANYWAY, SO I CALLED THE STUPID PEOPLE REPEATABLY AND KEEP COMPLAINING. SO THIS ONE GUY TOLD ME TO DOWNSIZE MY SPEED FROM A 3.0 TO A 1 1/2???? RIGHT?, DIDN'T WORK ( OF COURSE) SO TO UPGRADE BACK TO MY 3.0 THERE WAS A CHARGER??????? WTF???? OK, SO I HAD CALLED OVER 9 TIMES AND EVEN WENT OVER MY MINUTES ON MY CELL PHONE TALKING TO THE IDIOTS. THERE WAS EVEN A BLACK GIRL THAT HAD A REAL BAD ATTITUDE??? MY OPINION ON THAT ISN'T WORTH STATING ON HERE, ANYWAYS...TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, THEY TRIED KEEPING ME AS A CUSTOMER???? OK, I TOLD THEM I WANTED TO UNHOOK THE GARBAGE AND I WILL NEVER, NEVER AND I REPEAT NEVER HAVE ANYTHING ELSE TO DO WITH AT&t. WITH THAT SAID, I'LL NEVER REFERENCE THEM EITHER. AND IF SOMEONE REVIEWS THIS FROM THE COMPANY, PLEASE FEE FREE TO CALL ANYTIME. THE NUMBER FOR MY SERVICE WAS 6068550212.

WARNING: AT&T COMPANY ARE THIEVES!!!
Even if you disconnect your services with AT&T they will still charge your card. Its happing to me right now. When you call to complain about it all they do is transfer you to different extensions, if you finally get someone that is willing to help they are trained to lie. Like customer told me just change your bank account number and we wont charge you anymore. This has been a total nightmare for me.

Poor customer service
AT&T is outsourcing its phone support.
The dept of Internet services, And its customer service is been outsourced to the philippines.
These people answering the phones for AT&T in the philippines have no clue what they are doing.
Wake up people, These people in the philippines have you're personal information. And if you use a credit card to pay for something, They can steal your credit and if this happens you out of luck because the local, state, federal agencies cannot do nothing too you.
But AT&T will be reliable. They are setting their self up for class action lawsuits if something happens.
Their maybe some lawsuits coming very soon, Because when I signed up for AT&T I many years ago, AT&T did not outsource so therefore I did not give them permission to send or let people in the philippines have access to my personal information.

Bait and switch scam
AT&T appears to be running a bait-and-switch with its FastAccess DSL Direct promotion.
I signed up for FastAccess DSL Direct 6.0M at a promotional monthly price of $19.95 from this URL:
http://www.bellsouth.com/consumer/inetsrvcs/promo_unreal.html?src=lftnav
At the bottom of the first box highlighting this service are the words "No term commitment."
Despite this, when I called AT&T to cancel my service, it informed me that a $150 early-termination fee would be charged. I spoke to three representatives (after being disconnected from the first), including a supervisor.
I tediously recited the URL address to the supervisor, pointing out to her where on the page the words "No term commitment" clearly appear, to which she replied she saw no such thing and that they were not on the page she was looking at.
AT&T insisted the service I signed up for had a term and stated I will be billed the $150 early-termination fee after canceling the service today.
I also read aloud to the representatives Section 5(a) titled "Early Termination Fee" of the Terms of Service AT&T mailed me, which reads: "When you purchased the Service, you agreed to a specific price and plan, which may have included a term. You agree that if you cancel your plan before the end of the term, you will pay the early termination fee associated with that plan. If you did not sign up for a term plan, the term for you Service will be month-to-month."
I informed AT&T I would dispute any early-termination charge as it would be in violation of the customer agreement and the law, but am disgusted at what appears to be a blatant bait-and-switch, to which other consumers should be alerted.

Scam to cheat
We have had an import business in the Miami Design District for 20 years, for most of which we have used Bell South (now AT&T). We switched to a much cheaper provider in June of this year.
Our complaint is that after our 3 year contract with AT&T expired on September 2009, they automatically renewed our contract for another 3 years without proper notice (as is required in our contract with them).
They did not alert us to this when we indicated that we were going to switch to another provider. Then, out of the blue, they sent us a bill for $720.00 and accused us of breach of contract.
After they sent us the bill, they told us that they had provided us with proper notice. Their so called "notice" was a blurb hidden within the general "News You Can Use" section of our September 2009 statement. It wasn't even on the front of the statement - it was on the back of it! We'd certainly never seen it, and to have that be the basis of a 3-year renewal is ludicrous. They claim that they also sent out a "renewal postcard", but we never received it and they have been unable to provide us with any proof that they ever sent it.
We challenged the claim, but they have decided unilaterally that this is a "closed matter" and now we are being harassed to no end. Yesterday, they even called to threaten us by saying "Wouldn't you rather spend your money on us than on a lawyer?"
They are threatening to ruin our credit and take legal action against us. What can we do? What is our right?
