repair service
I have been trying to get a dead phone line repaired for the last 5 days. I have been calling at least 3 times a day and all I get is a run around. I have even spoken to 2 supervisors explaining that we are a doctor's office with life and death situations. Something needs to done with the horrific service AT&T is providing. Every time I make a phone call, their main concern is to try to sell me contracts to their products!

Awful service
Since repeated phone contacts with AT&T do not appear to resolve any issues, I filed this complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Communications Commission:

Issue #1:

I purchased a phone with a 2 year contract from Amazon.com on February 26, 2008. The SIM card did not work, so I called AT&T and they promptly issued a replacement that worked, and I also had my old phone number ported over at that time. I set up my account to receive electronic invoices, and paid my bill online as well. So far so good.

Since I was paying everything online and all payments were current, I didn't open up anything from AT&T. Nothing personal, I simply recycle all junk mail without reading it. I didn't need nor want any advertisements from AT&T. The receipt of junk mail from AT&T is not my complaint. This only is to illustrate why I hadn't noticed this situation sooner. One day I was bored and actually opened up one of the envelopes from AT&T, so see a bill for about $450 for a number that I had never had and a threat to send me to collections. I promptly called AT&T. Upon hearing of my situation, I was transfered to their Fraud department. They determined that it wasn't actually Fraud, but simply a mistake on their part for having this extra account open in my name, and since there was no activity on the account proving that I never had it, the customer service representative said they'd take care of it and I wouldn't owe anything.

If this is actually what happened, I would have nothing to report.

So I shredded the bill as I do with all my paper work. Why keep it around if everything is taken care of?

A few weeks later I started receiving calls from collections. I ignored them at first, thinking that once AT&T contacted them that I owed them nothing they'd stop calling. Well, that didn't happen. So I called AT&T back thinking they simply neglected to stop collections on the account that they were in error on. Nope. I initially had an extremely rude AT&T "customer service representative" who belittled me for getting a cell phone that I couldn't afford and not paying my bills. Huh? I could afford my bills just fine, but simply saw no reason to pay for an additional phone number that I never authorized AT&T to put in my name in the first place. So I hung up, and perhaps that was rude on my part, but I wanted someone reasonable to talk to. I got another representative that again said this was all my fault and I owed the bill. I'm not sure if I went through another one or two representatives, but I finally reached someone who looked at the notes from the initial call, understood what was happening, and took care of canceling the account that never should have existed to begin with. I wish I knew her name, because she actually took care of it. Case closed. I never received another bill for that number and after a few weeks collections stopped calling. And I wouldn't bring up this issue except it wasn't an isolated incident.

Issue #2:

At the time, I did legitimately have two cell phone accounts (Issue #1 above dealt with a third erroneous account in my name). As of June 2008, I had no more use for the second phone, and since I was no longer under contract with that phone I called AT&T and told them that I wanted to pay my account for that phone in full as of that day and cancel the account. They did succeed in canceling the account.

I then received a paper statement (I now knew to open up everything from AT&T even tho I set up for electronic statements) for that phone for the following month. I called AT&T and told them that I had previously called to cancel the account and paid the account in full and wished for these charges to be reversed. I was told that would happen.

It didn't.

I received a bill the following month for two months of service. I called AT&T again and again asked for the charges to be reversed. I was again told they would be.

They half were. One month had been removed, the other month remained. Again I called AT&T, and again I was told it was taken care of.

I received a call today from a "resolution center" that said that if I didn't pay the $79 right here and now for the balance on my AT&T account that it would go to collections and be reported on my credit. So not only had I been repeatedly informed by AT&T that everything was taken care of when it wasn't, I got bullied into paying for a month of service I never received.

NO Install and then Address not served
On 24 September 2008, service order was placed on the ATT website for package for residential service and DSL Elite. Installation was scheduled for 29 September 2008 before 8P and a confirming order number was provided and telephone number assigned. No installation was performed under the installation service contract and, upon notifying ATT, the first call center handler was incompetent and refused to refer to supervision, dropping the call to a national call center with someone who had no idea of why the call was referred, with the national call center dropping the call back to Michigan (when the original call was routed from California). The Michigan call center proceeded to give an incorrect number for the CA/NV customer complaint center, where another incompetent entry level call handler refused to refer to a supervisor. The order was re-placed in another name with consent on 30 September 2008 with a totally different set of web pages accessed for the same package. The order, placed, was accepted, and generated a confirmation number and no specific installation date (only a response within 3-5 business days). The web site failed to honor the waiver of activation charge (installation fee) which is and was clearly stated on the website and on other websites. An email response indicated that ATT does not service the service address (when it is the California regulated phone monopoly for dial tone access) when ATT was contracted to the same address 2 weeks earlier for the same or similar services under a different number. In addition, the cell phone under contract to ATT began messaging that 'this is not a working number' when the account is and was current, causing significant damages to the consumer. $10 was also assessed in fees on the cell phone to call the business office when these calls were and are supposed to be free. This is now subject to CA PUC complaint and legal action against ATT in the local jurisdiction for breach of contract and unfair trade practices/fraud.

Redemption of Reward
I changed my phone and internet services to AT&T. They keep telling me and sending reminder letters for me to go to the rewards web site to redeem my reward. There is NO such web site. This is very frustrating. Mardelle

Nightmare service
I am an AT&T customer for the last 8 months, before which i had their wireless services for 5 years.

I have had a really bad experience with AT&T for the last 2 weeks. My service was dis-connected due to non-payment of services, when in fact I have already paid the bill through direct deposit. Given that I work from home, I needed the service re-installed quickly. So I went ahead and paid my entire bill again, till they investigated the earlier payments. I also paid my next month's bill in advance. I was then transferred to Customer service, then to technical service, and back to Accounts Payable. Dis-connected, and finally after another 2 hours, I was told that it will take 5 days to re-start my service.

This morning, an AT&T repair person called (out of the blue) asking us to be home in next 15 min as they needed to check my connection (no idea why all of a sudden my connection is 'broken'). When I returned the call after an hour (meetings at office), the person was EXTREMELY rude and told me to call the 800 number, as the next time he would be able to come would be after a week!

We have spent over 4 hours on the phone with various departments with NO resolution. This has been a terrible experience and if AT&T does not resolve this, WITH CUSTOMER IN mind, I will be sending complaints to BBB and the AT&T board.

Dishonest product
Two year ago, I got a contract with Cingular today the new AT&t., I am a US ARMY member., for this reason I moved from Florida to North Carolina., I have almost 22 months as a at&t customer. But today this company that is supposes to support the troop, was negligent and made in my point of view something dishonest.

I tried to upgrade my cell phone I was sure that I can do this because in July and two weeks ago I called to customer service to be sure if I was eligible to do it. And the representative told to me that I was eligible. Still toning when I check online my account appears as eligible (Sep -25-2008)

But last weekend I received in my mail a offer from Radio Shack with better prices so I tried to do the upgrade ., but when the salesmen in radio shack called at&t to get the approval, they block my account and they said that I was not eligible . so I took the phone I told with the representative from at&t and he told me that I was not eligible because I talk too much with my cell phone I was disappointed I said what kind of excuses is that and he told me that at&t dont have antennas in the area where I live so they have to pay for this service to another provider.

When I got the contract nobody told me about antennas., networks and all this kind of bulls sorry the only thing that I know is that I paid my bill on time every month and I have ways to probe .i dont care if at&t have to paid for use antennas or other network. We have a contract and they have to give me good services that include signal and accessories. Anyways I pay for that.

But the bad thing about this is that when I asked how I can remove the block from my account, they said that the only way was if I bought the cell phone from them paying more expensive and waiting for a rebate for 13 weeks. This is a dishonest way to obligated me to buy a cell phone from at&t.

I have copies of the notes that they put on my account with the ridiculous excuses .like, you talk too much and at&t have to pay to somebody else. If the business is not good for them just let me know and let me get out of the contract and I looking for an honest provider.

Bad service
On 4/15/08, I moved my office from one city in California to a location in another city. To accommodate the move I made the following calls to AT&T.

4/18/08 01:01pm duration of call 00:10:28 number called 800-750-2355

7/03/08 12:58pm duration of call 00:10:22 number called 800-919-8021

7/09/08 05:13pm duration of call 00:47:30 number called 800-288-2020

7/09/08 06:01pm duration of call 00:12:23 number called 800-288-2020

7/10/08 09:43am duration of call 00:14:48 number called 800-750-2355

7/10/08 03:57pm duration of call 00:27:04 number called 800-750-2355

7/11/08 03:40pm duration of call 01:00:49 number called 800-750-2355

7/14/08 02:59pm duration of call 00:18:53 number called 800-750-2355

7/24/08 10:13pm duration of call 00:00:08 number called 800-750-2355

7/31/08 08:33am duration of call 00:15:02 number called 877-722-2375

8/01/08 05:38pm duration of call 00:02:41 number called 800-288-2020

8/06/08 02:33pm duration of call 00:23:33 number called 800-288-2020

8/13/08 01:14pm duration of call 00:57:32 number called 800-288-2020

9/02/08 04:47pm duration of call 00:26:08 number called 800-750-2355

The duration of calls made to AT&T were for a total of 5 hours 27 minutes and 21 seconds not counting any calls to AT&T made from my cell phone or home phone.

On 4/18/08, I requested that my business number go to another carrier. The transfer did not take place until 5/03/08. On 7/03, I requested static IP address at my new address to accommodate my server to move from my old address DSL line to my new address on a DSL line. By 07/11/08 (after 3 hours 3 minutes and 24 seconds on the phone) with AT&T, I realized that they were not going to provide me with a static IP address. I told them I was going to seek the services of an alternative company. On 7/14/08, I acquired the services of another company and informed AT&T. On 7/16/08, my server was in place with my new static IP address provided by an alternate company. On 7/24/08 I called AT&T to confirm that I was not on there service and I would never be on there service again. During this period customer service informed me on at least five occasions that only a supervisor could resolve my issues and none were available to speak to me but would call me within two days. No supervisor ever called and has not called to date. I, to the best of my ability, informed the customer service personnel that were willing to talk to me that my telephone service is from an alternative company and not from AT&T. To date AT&T is still harassing me with the claim that I have service with them.

I have contacted the California Public Utilities commission, KCRA - Call3, and posted my concerns on the following internet blogs to attempt to resolve the issue: http://www.pissedconsumer.com,

https://post.complaints.com.

To date the issue is still unresolved.
