AT&T Reviews

Dishonesty, mischarge, refusal to refund.
I signed up for At&T 6 megabite DSL back in February. The technician got here to set it up and informed me that the speed was 1.5. The representative either lied to us or made a mistake. If the technician hadn't said anything we would have been charge for the faster more expensive service. We called 3 hours afterwards and canceled due to this misinformation. A month later AT&T charges me 150 dollars saying we didn't call and cancel. We gave them names and confirmation numbers. They said they would send me a check for the money and they were sorry. 3 weeks later I get a check for $6.21. I have since spoken to 8 diferent representatives, all with diferent stories and all promising the same thing, my money! It's been another 2 weeks since my last phone call. Do yourself a favor, DON'T use AT&T. They will take your money, promise it back <more than once> and never deliver. I will never use this awful company ever again.

wanting to charge to disconnect internet service.
I called AT&T to have my internet service discontinued. They told me it would cost me 900.00, since they renewed ( no contract signed) this service in Feb. of this year. So at 29.00 a month until Feb, 2014, they say I am obligated to them. I got my DSL line when they were still Bellsouth as there were no other services available to me at that time. If I refuse to pay the internet bill then they will probably cut our phone service and right now there is no other phone service available to us. We have been a customer for over 40 years. If I had another phone service available they could come and get all their lines out. I called again today about the internet and told them I wanted a copy of the contract. Supposedly it will be mailed out today. First contract was for 3 years I am sure, but should there be an option for a person to cancel without having to pay an arm and a leg. I can't even make a monthly payment for the disconnect fee (which I don't think I should have to pay), they want the 900.00 up front. Can anyone help with this situation?

Neighborhood invasion
I found no way to contact AT&T on their website with complaints about their technicians. AT&T has picked up a lot of business in my residential neighborhood and consequently has trucks with technicians that sit for hours in front of our homes (not those requesting their services) running their engines while they work on their computers. I asked a technician why he had to sit running his truck in front of my house for hours and he states he is "working" on his computer for a new customer and if he doesn't run his engine his computer battery will not remain charged. I resent this air and sound pollution of my neighborhood, in front of my house because AT&T wants to save battery power. The basic lap top I have works for at least 4 hours without ancillary power. You would think that a Technologically advanced company such as AT&T could come up with a better solution than aggravating potential customers with this impolite and environmentally unsound practice.

Scares me off
WOW!! After reading all these posts on problems with AT&T I think stay as far away from this company as possible. Sounds as if they are a greedy bunch who has no concern for the customer. Hopefully it will catch up with them. Customer service is the name of the game!

slow speed internet
This is the worst internet I have ever had. I've never seen internet so slow in my life. Even 56k is faster than this internet. I tried to cancel my services because I am a very unhappy and not satisfied customer. Being the worst company they are, they want to charge me a 150$ cancellation fee. Why would you even charge people to cancel their internet when they are not even satisfied. You scammers are stealing my money and a waste of money spent on such horrid internet speed.

illegal collection activites
I dumped at&t's alleged "services" a year and a half ago. This week out of the blue my parents, who are in their eightie's began receiving collection calls on MY old telephone number. Now I only pay from a paper bill, I do not trust on line bills because at&t triple collected on one month's services and refused to ever acknowledge their error even after sending in copies of the bills, (which was current by the way) and copies of our bank statements. At&t refused to admit their errors, saying that I was confused, although they had nothing to say about the printed evidence in front of their faces. I guess they needed some cash for their coffee and donuts fund, because the person I spoke to recognized what I was saying and said that it must be my mistake, even AFTER admitting I had no past due balance. Now, a full year and a half later, AFTER I dumped their "services" my parents began getting collection call from some outfit called Southwest Credit Systems who claim to be working for at&t, which it weird as I have never been billed for anything from at&t in over a year. First off, why did they contact my parents and upset them so much when it is supposedly MY bill? When I called this SW Credit outfit, they refused to produce any itemized bill. They claimed they did not have it. Sorry, but if you want me to pay a bill, you have to send it to me and not someone else. At&t doesn't even have the basic decency and respect to even contact me, so why bother an elderly couple who are in no way associated with this alleged bill. I've always paid my bills and even ones I have co-signed on, but unless they can a, prove I actually owed at&t one thin dime and b, PROVE to me that they even bothered to mail it to me, then I DO NOT OWE THIS ALLEGED BILL!! and God help you when you try to call at&t for an explanation. I just wasted five and a half hours on the phone trying to find anyone at at&t to explain thier own bill! Since when am I required to pay a bill this late that one, I never got and two, has no explanation! At&t's operators on their dial-a-prayer system refuse to even give their real names, yet these same people DEMAND MY name, MY Social Security number for goodness sakes, MY address and on one call, they even demanded to know my employer, all the while refusing to provide a direct phone number so I could call them back directly and not have to explain events from start again and again and refuse to properly identify themselves! Where is their integrity? I still have no evidence that I owe them one thin dime. This is exactly why I left them and recommend that you do the same. Oh yes, they also wanted my new telephone number. They refuse to properly identify themselves and demand my new number? Their arrogance and rudeness is without equal. They want to ruin MY credit WITHOUT putting forth one iota of evidence of ANY VALID debt, yet they demand payment for something that doesn’t exist. At least they refuse to provide one shred of proof!. I am just out of the hospital after suffering a stroke and heart attack two years ago and my second heart attack three weeks ago. This kind of stress I DO NOT NEED! SO my personal recommensdation is that if you are currently doing business with at&t, change carriers! They have obviously already bought off the county, state and federal attorneys because they "don't have time to deal with something this trivial." Some government, huh? I have no real feel for a good carrier since all of them operate the same way. I see no reason to give them my present number, and they certainly have no reason to badger a nice couple in thier eighties. Would you do this to YOUR parents? I certainly wasn't raised to attack unsuspecting people from the rear, but at&t and sw credit systems have no problem doing it. This is NOT the America I defended in Vietnam. And I didn't even have the choice of buying off a draft board like bill clinton did. But then he had bill fulbright to get HIM out of harm's way while leaving it to the rest of us to do a very unpopular job. Kind of a back stabbing operation like at&t. Good luck finding another carrier. I found one.

bundle package offered
after receiving multiple mail promotions to "bundle phone services" I called an at&t representative and spent over one hour on the phone to arrange a "package" of cell phone service, discount on my satellite TV service and discontinued land line service but would continue to have Internet service via "special number" phone line. Due to the fact that it took so long to process this "package deal", I was promised a waiver of activation fees on my cell phones; a charge quoted of " $26.00 and $36.00", which later I was informed was incorrect. Also, this representative insured me that I would receive a $100.00 credit simply for the inconvenience of taking such a long time. When I received my cell phones and I began the process of activation, I was informed that they had no record of the promise of waiving activation fees. I did, however, receive the $100.00 credit on my next home phone bill. During this process of trying to find out why a representative of this company would offer the waiver of activation fees, I was informed that they had no idea of why he would do so or even who he would be. During this process, one of the sales people, or whoever they are, offered me the opportunity to purchase "high speed DSL service in place of my current internet service. I received a confirmation number of this transaction. Today, when I attempted to stop my land line service but continue my internet service; which I was told initially would be a part of my "bundle package" I was told they had no record of this high speed DSL offer. Now I have been waiting over one and a half hours for a return call from a representative who insured me that he would call back within 30 minutes to advise if I would even be eligible to have Internet service without a landline. This is fraud. I was promised a package of cell phone service, internet without landline and discount on satelitte TV service. I am informed that there is apparently no higher authority that I can speak with.

Billing
AT&T charges customers a Worldwide Occasional Calling amount every month. If they are charging all their customers this they are making millions of dollars a month in this bogus charge that 60% of the customers will never use and most of the customers do not even know they are being charged. Call AT&T and have this bogus charge taken off your account.

AT&T is blocking certain websites from its customers
AT&T has blocked the website http://icefilms.info from its customers. We simply cannot access the site while others with different Internet providers can. It happened in the last couple of days and it is a known problem for AT&T customers as discussed on the icefilms forum...we figure that the site streams videos and AT&T has decided it takes up too much bandwidth...or the company refused to pay AT&T to let it access AT&T customers...at any rate, we called AT&T to complain tonight. The Internet tech support dude claimed that AT&T doesn't block specific sites. We asked to speak to a supervisor and after putting us on hold, the agent came back, said the supervisor was busy and gave us a complaint line number to call. Well, that only connected to something about a class action settlement about AT&T slowing peoples' connections without telling them. Clearly they are doing it deliberately and avoiding in-person complaints about it. This is pretty much the last straw with AT&T...we are going to look into other Internet provider options.

Impossible to get repairs
On April 5, we had a rain storm in Central Florida (not a heavy duty hurricane, just a rain storm). I was home, sick with a nasty stomach virus. My land line went out. Since I have vision limits, I no longer have a cell phone. I borrowed one from a neighbor to notify AT&T of the outage. Their recording told me it might be fixed by April 11 - 7 days from date of outage. Since I also have AT&T internet, this left me with no way to contact anyone if I needed help. I pay for a security system, but it sends its alarms over the land line. And the AT&T line required me to provide an alternate phone number for them to call before dispatching anyone.I finally made it back to work on April 8. There was no message from AT&T on my work phone asking if a technician could come out to fix the problem. Being without any outside connection when you are sick is dangerous. There is absolutely no way to compel this alleged company to fix a landline. I contacted the FCC; they said I had to talk to Florida' s Public Service Commission. The PSC told me that since I had internet - more than 'basic service' - they couldn't help move AT&T along, and referred me to the misnamed Division of Consumer Services. That great agency told me that since the outage was due to a storm, there was nothing they could do, and besides, the Division's complaint process takes 30 days. So I will be dumping AT&T as soon as I am well enough to spend a full day at work and arrange for my cable carrier to provide a landline. Some of us still need landlines, but apparently regulators only care about wireless service and providers don't care if we die in our homes because we can't call a doctor.
