AT&T Universal Card Reviews

AT&T Universal Card allowed an unauthorized charge and now refuses to assist me
AT&T Universal Card allowed an unauthorized charge to my credit card account and refuses to put a stop to it or cancel my card. I was passed on from one place to another and at the end they were too busy and couldn't help me at the time.

I had to call back later. When I called back later the same thing happened all over again.

Bad Communication
I have been a good & loyal customer of AT&T for over 7 years - great paying history. In February of 2010I, in good faith, set up a payment program with AT&T since my APR skyrocketed from 8.9% to 29.9% due to "economic conditions". Then in October of 2010, I combined all of my accounts into a Debt Management Program, Money Management International (MMI). I then cancelled my program with AT&T and set it up with MMI as I wanted to have all of my debt combined. But AT&T declined to accept the proposal.

In doing research to understand why AT&T declined the proposal, I was informed that a new regulation was created (that I guess only AT&T were aware of) between the time I cancelled the AT&T program and set up the MMI program (Oct 2-Nov 17; 1st payment was received on 11/27/10 - oh they did take the payment though!!) and now I can’t have this account be placed in any program.

Now, if I had known this information when I was cancelling my program with AT&T during my conversations with the customer service rep, I would not have done so. The customer service rep did not have any idea of this as well or if she did, the information was not forthcoming. It’s not that I was cancelling my account due to non-payment or late payments or bad payments; it was because I was setting it up with my combined MMI program. I WAS STILL paying on the account!

So, due to this issue, my account is being ramped up to the 29.99% APR. Why am I being punished for a miscommunication that customers were not privy to until after the fact? This makes no sense!!!

I can’t understand that if I am willing to pay, wanting to pay, and have paid, but due to miscommunication by AT&T and my wanting to combine my monthly payments, that AT&T will not work with me and place my account with the debt management program.

But its amazing that I am a "good" & "loyal" customers as long as they are taking my money, but when I need answers and want assistance - their hands are tied. Really!! - no one at this company can help!!!

I have contacted the company verbally and have written letters trying to find out why they aren't willing to work with me, but receive the smae canned answered letters from "S. Larson" and "G. Stevens" Well I pray that they will never need any help!!

'No Annual Fee For Life'
I am a former AT&T employee, and I've carried the AT&T Universal Card since 1992. When I received the card, I was also guaranteed 'no annual fee for life'. Imagine my surprise when I recently received a notice telling me I would be charged a $30 annual fee beginning in September, 2010. When I called the card issuer, Citibank (South Dakota) to complain, they arrogantly told me the terms of use agreement states they have the right to amend or change any portion of the agreement at their discretion. When I said, "So, 'no annual fee for life' doesn't really mean no annual fee for life, it means 'no annual fee for life until we decide to change our minds', the indifferent rep and his supervisor both continued to refer me back to the terms of use agreement. I'll check with an attorney to see if I have any legal recourse, but in the meantime, I'll be cancelling my card. They recently cut my credit line in half, raised my APR to 20%, and now they want to charge me an annual fee. AT&T and Citibank have my permission to stick my card where the sun don't shine!

Card cancelled for no reason!
As a former employee of AT&T, I was guaranteed the use of my AT&T Universal Card for life with no annual fee. They have recently cancelled this card with the excuse that it is because I live overseas. I have lived overseas for over 16 years and have been using this card with no problems until now.

I want to know why they can suddenly decide not to honor their guarantee of a card for life with no annual fee.

Min Payment Increase
I went to make my online payment..My minimum payment was increased over $100 mnth.

There is no explanation why. I have not used the card. I have not been late on a payment.

How can I afford an increase like that?

bad service
I got an AT&T Universal Card in the U.S. way back when it first came out. "No Annual Fee for Life" they said. Great! I moved to Canada in the late 90's and it was still an excellent card to use whenever I traveled back in the States. And it stayed great for me until late 2007/early 2008. Suddenly, my statements began to arrive very late--well after the payment due date. This cause me several problems which I will not go into here. I understand that tracking the balance due and making sure all payments arrive on time is my responsibility. The problem I am having is that AT&T is still not properly addressing my statements, which probably contributes to the slow delivery. I have been trying by phone and my mail to inform them of my proper address here in Canada. And it's not too difficult: Name; P.O. Box; City, Province, Postal Code and Country.

They can't do it! They keep messing it up, saying "Can" instead of "Canada". Or (finally) getting "Canada" written and then using "00001" for my postal code. (I'm sure "00001" means something to AT&T but it is meaningless to Canada Post.) My complaints thus far have been brushed aside: "We mail everything on time" (Yes, but not properly addressed) or "Hmm. The computer won't let me do that."

Come on AT&T! This is the 21st century. Canada and Canadian Postal Codes have been around for a while now. This ain't rocket science. AT&T should be embarrassed. I think they are hoping they can just tell me to buzz off and give up. Not sure I want to let them get away with that. My fellow Americans, if the U.S. wants to be competitive in a global market, this is a no-brainer. Canadians, you should feel insulted! Being able to send a properly-addressed letter in both countries, is that beyond AT&T's capacity?

Dishonest promotion!
The company advertises that a customer would get 10% of ATT services charged to this card which is false and misleading. They pay you this reward only if you use the card to pay other businesses.
