overbilling
I have had an at&t yellowpages add for about a year and a half now and I received a phone call about upping my add to hit more markets and more search words. I have been paying $35 a month and the lady on the phone said that my new bill would be $42 a month if I switched to this plan. Mind you I've never received a call from this add yet. They did a voice verification over the phone at this time, where I agreed to the new bill being $42 a month. Well I get my first bill and it is $66.73. Hum? So I called someone at AT&T and they said I've been 30 days behind on my bill and that's why. So I had to get all my info from my bank to show them I've never been late. So I sent in the $66.73 and the lady said I would be credited for the overpayment. My next bill was $72, no where close to $42 a month. The next person I talked to said it was a pro-rated fee, which the person I talked to when I signed up said nothing about a pro-rated fee, I even had them play back my conversation that they recorded, and explained to them they told me nothing about extra fees. I've talked to 5 people from this company now and wanted to cancel after the second person I talked to, and now I have a contract for the next year. I've told the last person that I talked to that they're sales people are disclosing this information when they're selling you this. She said that the sales people don't know about these extra fees. What a line of bullshit. I want people to know about this and beware of it. Never do business with them.

Website/unfair pratices
My exwife who has mental issues and bipolar called just to change my business ad from bold to regular type and to have them omit address from listing and after talking to her for about 10 minutes started talking about things she didn't understand and talked her into agreeing to a 1 year contract for my company(which she isn't authorized to do).She ended up with 2 website ads and owing an extra $138.00 per month instead of the $25.00 yellowpage ad she called about.
When I called to complain and told them of her medical condition and that she STILL doesn't know what is going on due to her condition I was told they would not remove the website ad even though it hasn't started yet!
Avoid AT&T they take advantage of the ill and weak and all they are concerned about is money and not you as a customer!

Unfair treatment!
I started advertising with Bellsouth Yellowpages a few years ago. Last year they were absorbed by AT&T. In March, I was contacted about renewing my advertising and increasing my internet exposure with more of their products. I had no increase in business for the previous year, but thought that it might help to do as they suggested. The salesman assured me that I could cancel prior to the start of the new contract- November 1. In September, after a brutal year, I called to cancel and was told that I would have had to have called within 30 days of signing. I called a few "customer service" numbers and got nowhere. I finally got to someone who was helpful and she gave me the number for our local sales manager. He told me that he would research whether there were any grounds for terminating the contract (non-performance or lack of response by the original salesman seemed to be the only possibilities; neither seemed provable). I paid the last installment of my 2007 contract- 60 days late... business was so bad. Today I got a call telling me I owed two months in the new contract. I told them I wasn't going to pay it- I had offered compromises after asking to cancel (said I'd pay for print or a reduced internet program) and they had rejected or ignored me. I'm not willing to bankrupt my business to pay for worthless advertising.
I just left a message for the sales manager. I'm going to ask him one more time to do something. If he doesn't, I'm considering taking the story to a local consumer advocate and publishing more details of this story on the www. I can't afford the lawyer if they sue me, so the choice is that or shut down the business and start again under a new name. Just great how much they care about helping their customers, eh?

Beware of this scam
DO NOT ADVERTISE WITH AT&T YELLOWPAGES! BEWARE OF SCAM. When deciding whether or not to purchase internet advertising service on yellowpages.com, I asked the sales representative how many calls per week I could expect to receive. The sales representative advised that I could expect to receive 1-2 calls per week and then proceeded to justify the $154/mo payment in terms of 1-2 calls per week received. After starting the service in October 2006, I received ONE, and only ONE, call through the online advertisement through February 2007.
Five months, one call. Don't waste your money.
Before signing, I asked why they would hold me to a one-year contract when it's easy enough to pull the online ad if it wasn't working. And if they were so sure it would work for clients, they should have no qualms about allowing people to get out of 1-yr contracts. I tried to get out of contract, even through BBB, but alas, I'm stuck. Save your money and put it to better use. There are better ways to advertise your business than through AT&T Yellowpages.
