Atlas Travel Insurance Reviews

Waste of time and Pointless Insurance Policy Insur
Total RIPOFF. Here is why. Our own health insurance has a $4000 deductible. Therefore, any small incident our son might have while in a Student Abroad program would not be covered. I specifically told the Atlas representative that this was the reason we sought out additional coverage. Sure enough, our son twisted his ankle, while in Florence and required about $75.00 worth of medical care. After going through "Claims Hoop" we were then told that the claim was denied because the policy was secondary coverage, not primary coverage.

After explaining to the claims rep exactly why we had brought the coverage. I had gone over the policy in detail to be sure there was no language that defined the policy as "Secondary Coverage".

Under "IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR INSURANCE there is a link "Please be sure to read the summary of the coverage available under this plan, available at: Atlas Description of Coverage".

Appropriately listed on "Page 14" (yes, I had to read 14 additional pages) the document discloses that this is a "Summary of the Master Policy".

Any rationale human being would think that the header "IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR INSURANCE" should include this critical component of the Policy...but I know it is intentionally excluded.

There is also a "sales" page from their site, which is 11 pages long...There is no disclosure about primary / secondary coverage.

However, it is the Master Policy where the provision for Secondary Insurance is most likely disclosed. This "hide and seek" strategy of the Insurance company requires a Policy holder to purchase the policy, review up to 18 pages of information to verify that coverage is consistent with policy holder's needs and THEN seek out the Master Policy.

So, I am 60 years old and a seasoned business person, simply seeking proper coverage for my son...and Atlas almost “got me”. We couldn't get proper insurance through this company and spent more time than it was worth.

I disputed their Charge on my Amex card, disclosing all the above..and won the dispute...

Why? Atlas never responded to the Dispute Inquiry. They must figure that since most people will not challenge their scam, it not worth the time to even respond when a Dispute comes in...

You caught in the same scam/jam? Dispute the charge...

Awful travel insurance
Insurance with Atlas Travel is pointless. Should you need to claim, forget it. They drag out the procedure in the hope you will go away. If you persist you must be prepared to give up normal life whilst you deal with them. They counter every letter with nonsensical requirements trying to wear you down. I have had insurance with them over many years without claim, but they just won't pay out. My advice? Save your money.

Nothing good to say about this company
They utilize highly expensive 0871 numbers for health screening regarding existing medical conditions. Long messages. Long periods on hold whilst CHECKING DETAILS!!! (More than once!!!)I emailed them for advice regarding a heart attack and pending surgery scheduled for two months time, hoping to go on holiday for a couple of weeks whilst waiting. SURGEON had informed me that I would be OK as medication was well controlling my condition. They replied requesting me to call an 0871 number and obtain a reference number, pay any additional premium required and then get back to them to have the reference number appended to my annual policy, which I took out 9 months ago. This was the wrong number for their current excess provider. However, I was not informed of this until I had been on the phone for over fourteen minutes, when I was given a further 0871 number to ring. This was the correct number, however, rather than tell me at the outset that my condition was of a nature that they would be decline any insurance cover, the kept me on line for another 20 minutes.THIS MADE A TOTAL OF WELL OVER HALF AN HOUR. I suspect that the wrong number I was initially given was an intentional ploy, in order to JACK UP any premiums they could earn from my fruitless inquiry. I'M CERTAIN THAT NEITHER OF THESE CALLS SHOULD HAVE LASTED LONGER THAN THE FOUR OR FIVE MINUTES I WAITED TO SPEAK TO A REPRESENTATIVE.They must have realized that I would be declined for my heart condition.
