I heard the ad about getting $1000 worth of free groceries on the radio last night in Phoenix, AZ. Curious, I called the # and the guy explained to me that ATS is a marketing research company which is offering this great deal in order to determine what type of foods people in different regions in the U.S. purchase. "For just $7.99 S&H (Credit card only) we'll send you coupons which you can use towards 50-75% off over 350, 000 different food/beverage items (excluding alcohol and tobacco)." He said " If you give me your name, address, Credit Card info now we can send you the coupons right away.".
This sounded too good to be true so I started asking a lot of questions. The guy tried to assure me this was a legitimate company and that the company does not keep any credit card info on file. He sounded very convincing so I began to give him my info but got this sinking feeling in my stomach. Before I finished giving him my CC info, I said. You know - this may be a legit company but I need to do some research first and then will get back with you. He then said somewhat agitated " You've already given me 1/2 of the needed info why don't we finish this? " to which I replied, " I am sorry I wasted your time. Thank you for your patience" . What he then said was unbelievable - He said very angrily - "Piss off then " and then hung up on me.
I wonder if that phone call was recorded to ensure quality...
I believe I did the right thing by not completing this and giving him my CC info. For those of you who got what you were promised and did not have any residual credit card hassles - kudos to you. However, I bet that the majority did not. Be careful...RMC
