I have been a customer of ATT for over 4 years now. I was just threatened and treated rudely by one of their representatives while trying to renew again! - Tim "TD1694". 12:30pm MT 4/22/11.
I called because I was attempting to upgrade my phone and renew my services with for another 2 years however, the online system was forcing me to choose a plan that would change what I already have when I went to check out - something NOT posted in the advertisment for upgrade options.
"Tim" told me that I have to change the plan and that he would report me for using a smartphone if I didn't choose the new service at a higher cost - threatening me. Then continuing to say "so which plan do you want - you'll have to order with me now - I'll report you if you do it online". This was after I told him I had been using my Samsung phone (which I have registered with them for my account and number for 2 years now without difficulty or notice of change) just fine with email and basic online viewing and I could not see the point in changing because then I will simply not be able to afford services with ATT at all - however, the phone I have is also now getting old and full of glitches. It is not only deceptive advertising not to state up front that there is a service plan required change before checking out so to make other choices, but "Tim" was rude and concluded the call by simply saying "good luck ma'm, I'm going to report you for investigation and hung up".
What kind of representative says that to a customer who has been continually committing to a company? I have received no information about any changes in services nor informed consent to uphold my consitutional rights of due process so to have a choice to go elsewhere for services in the event of change.
I'm now considering not renewing with ATT and will make a point to recommend others to go elsewhere as well. I was shocked to find this site and hearing about so many others falling prey to ATT's deceptive practices. At least with Verizon I was considered a valued customer and they openly accepted complaints in a proactive attempt to resolve issues. No such option provided by ATT, there is no complaints number and their customer service is useless to try to get fair treatment against scams to get more money out of you.
So, good luck to ATT...
