Citifinancial Auto drafted an extra monthly payment from my checking account in February which resulted in 13 overdrafts to my checking account at $35 dollars a piece. Their unwillingness to refund the full amount to me resulted in more overdrafts to my account this month.
I contacted Citifinancial when I discovered the mistake, sent the required information from my bank as proof of their error, and was refunded the payment and 7 overdrafts.
I contacted Citifinancial and pointed out that I still had six overdrafts. I was informed that I needed to send the updated bank statement showing the additional overdrafts, even though these overdrafts where clearly marked as pending, as proof of the problem. I fax'd 3 times before their staff and I realized I hadn't put the account number on the fax cover sheet. I corrected this and fax'd the corrected copy to them.
For the next 4 days I got the run around. I entire 2 weeks and 1 day that I dealt with them I was repeatedly told it would take up to 48 hours for resolution. During my dealings with Citifinancial's Customer Service Dept. this was what I was primarily told. I called repeatedly in attempts to get resolution and literally begged for early resoultion due to the lack of funds causing my bank account to be overdrawn or at $2.23 cents until March 4th when another monthly bill caused my account to be overdrawn again (it was overdrawn $529 before the first refund). I repeatedly informed the Customer Service staff about my delima and was informed that the staff was understanding about my problem but yet it was extremely difficult to speak with anyone who could do anything about it. I was switched from dept to dept, even being switched to collections who informed me that one of the departments I was switched to didn't even exist.
It was not until I mentioned contacting the Better Business Beauru that I was switched to the supervisor who actually denied my request for the second reimbursment even though my evidence clearly pointed to their mistake causing the problem in the first place. This supervisor stated that I could contact BBB all I wanted but they weren't responsible for the continued refund.
I continuously begged for their assistance and reassured them that I wasn't trying to cheat them but I received poor service. I realize that $210 shouldn't break the bank but my wife and I are trying to work ourselves out of dept and $210 could break the bank. I feel that Citifinancial's poor service put my family and me under undo stress. I also spent a great deal of work and family time working on this issue.
If I could pay off this loan today and never have any other dealings with Citifinancial I'd be happy. I was even more disappointed because Citifinancial staff had been so helpful when my family and I were going through some hard financial times and they were so helpful. I wish they'd not been so nasty this time.
Sincerely,
John Brown
