I have encountered some trouble gaining a refund from an auto extended warranty company (understatement if the century) that is based out of California.
I received an add in the mail after purchasing a used Chevy Tahoe this year and then a phone call from this company offering an extended auto warranty. I spent probably an hour on the phone with their sales person asking very specific questions and getting back what I felt were very clear, specific answers back. The policy seller offered a 30 day full money back guarantee and emphasized that if after receiving the policy paper work in the mail and reviewing it I had 30 days to accept the policy or cancel and receive a full refund of my money. Having recently been laid off - right after purchasing the new Tahoe - I felt like I was doing the right thing and trying to protect my purchase in hard times. I spent $495 that I could ill afford at the time, but thought I had asked the right questions and was doing the right thing.
After receiving the policy and reading through it thoroughly it was clear that it had been sorely misrepresented. Many of the questions that I had asked and received direct, precise answers too were explicitly contradicted in the policy and the coverage was not what they had sold it to be over the phone. I contacted them immediately, well within the 30 day refund period and jumped through there hoops and mailed the letter to request cancellation and my refund. I called the week after speaking to their representative Lazano and mailing the request for cancellation to confirm that they had received the letter and that the policy was canceled, and it was. I was told the refund process usually took 30 days for them to verify that no claim had been filed against the policy. There had not been.
Okay, that was in September 2009. I have since verified that the refund is verified and is pending, is in processing and have called approximately once a week to request an updated status on my refund. Every week I am told that it is pending, is in processing and should be out in 2 to 3 weeks. Now there is no answer to any number that I have to contact them. It's now January 2010 and still no refund. I'm still unemployed and could really use that $495 - groceries are expensive
It's a total scam! And I fell for it! Has anyone gotten any money back from them?!?!?!
