Costa Rica Call Center
When you look up Avis and try to call their reservation number, you will most likely be routed to their call center located in Costa Rica. This is the most hideous call center operated by anyone in the world. The people barely speak English and you can't communicate. When I asked to speak to a manager I was told I could not and when I asked for a US number or to be transferred to someone in the US they hung up on me!
I actually love Avis who has provided me with great prices, great cars, and great service at airports all over the US! Some executive made a horrible decision to cut costs by using this call center in Costa Rica. I will not use this call center. I always ask where the operator is located and if it is not in the US I will ask to be transferred or hang up.
I urge everyone to avoid using the Costa Rica center call center! Just ask where the operator is located!

Bait and switch
I made a reservation online for a vehicle to be picked up on Monday, 3/23/09. I had confirmation with a base rate of $198.54 per day, with a total rental charge of 255.38 per day, including taxes and fees. When I got to the Milwaukee airport, Pam, at the rental counter, informed me that the car that I rented was not available, but that they did have a grand marquis available for $255.38. Since that was the same price I was quoted, I agreed. I circled the price on the rental agreement and initialed that price. I made clear to Pam that was the only amount I was agreeing to pay, and I would pay no more than I was originally quoted. She assured me that was the case, and that my original price would be honored. When I got to the Toledo airport to return the vehicle, my total bill was $331.11, which is significantly higher than my original quote. I contacted the customer service number, and they were unwilling or unable to resolve this issue. While the car I reserved was not available, the quote should have been honored, regardless of the vehicle provided, as the vehicle reserved was not available. The same thing happened to the woman ahead of me in line. This smells of a bait-and-switch scheme. I have never had a car rental company not honor the original quote in good faith when the vehicle that was reserved was not available. This is the first time I have used Avis, and it will be my last.

Car without legal documents
2 weeks ago we rented a car from Avis through traveljigsaw with conf number 135527205 with no legal docs in, signages not working at all and a warning is always on on the screen. And we could not come back bec we rented the car from Geneve airport and immediately went to the highway to Paris. The renting period was 24 hours but we gave it back in 6 hours as soon as we arrived in Paris. So we paid for a service not taken, even taken badly bec they put our lives in risk and caused us to travel with a car with no legal docs though they said they were in the car during rental. I sent a complaint to Avis but the reply is we are sorry. I demanded my money back but Avis does not even care about it. This is the ref of our case opened to Avis: RA# : E470989304 with reservation number 41244769GB6.
Think once more while you are renting a car from Avis next time...

Scammed
Upon returning the rental car, An Avis representative advised me he would call me a taxi to the airport. I told him I lived in Costa Rica and needed a taxi less than 3 miles up the road. He told me that would be $10.00. Because I live in CR I know that the meter at most would be less than $5.00 (2500.00 colones). So I declined his taxi and said I would get my own. He then without looking at the car that I drove in said to me "Your antenna is broken and your going to have to pay for that". - what a scam!! I couldnt believe he was going to break my antennia or charge me because I wouldnt take his friends overpriced taxi. He then refused to give me any receipts for my credit cards - I used a different one for the GPS rental. Im waiting to see how much they bill my credit cards- since they wouldnt even give me a receipt.
