Gym Goer June 21, 2011
Schemers
When I called the gym about the rates, they told me there is no membership signup fee, you only have to pay for use of facilities. Upon arriving at the gym I found out that they have member card processing fee instead. They convinced me that they have an easy cancellation policy. If I wish to cancel I can just bring my written cancellation to the office and they can cancel me right there. That's what I did but later I found out that they automatically charged me again. I called the office and the manager acted like they never received my cancellation note. When I arrived to the office to discuss the issue in person, he said that the cancellation has to be mailed to the corporate and that's what they did for me. He couldn't back up any information I was told before.
They didn't provide me with any cancellation confirmation and I am not certain if they stop billing me for the services I don't use. Whole thing sounds like a scheme to me trying to wissle every penny out of you when you are cancelling. In addition, the facilities are run down and dirty. I was afraid to pick up some kind of fungus there.

billing continues after cancellation
I was a member of this club for 2 years. I cancelled my membership after my contract was expired. They continued to bill me after canceling the membership. I called their "customer service" and spoke to a "manager" that checked my account, and found that I had not attended the club for 2 months (since my cancellation). She offered to refund my dues. She also asked me to send a letter stating that I wanted to close my account. I sent the letter the next day. Two months later they continued to bill me again for the membership. They even did a double charge for the dues they had "refunded" me for. Absolutely do not give this company any information about credit accounts or bank accounts for billing.

illegal credit charge
Beware of that guy name "JOHN" in South San Francisco Bally Fitness Gym...Dont even think of talking to him...If you are looking for a good gym find somewhere else. What this guy will do is following you and talking and offering you a lot of good deals..and then, , , , when he done talking he is going to force you to sign a contract, , , if you dont do, he is going to harass you and raising his angry voice too loud just to get what he wanted you to do"signing a contract".Be a wise consumer, dont sign any contract right away, ask for a blank contract or blank agreement and read it carefully within one week or else you will be an added victim of this wicked company...AND ALSO dont give your credit card or any information to this guy name "JOHN", , what he did was misled me and charged $56 to my credit card in exchange for blank agreement..

unauthorized charges
Two months in row Bally's Fitness, shown as: BALLY FITNSS(Dining and Entertainment), on my credit card has placed an unathorized charge of $159.72. We did not have any contract with them whats so ever, we have have contacted the fraud department of our credit card. This has happened two times and this will be the third new credit card I have to get because of this charge. Chase, the card issuer told me that Bally's does not even need your credit card number to charge you - if you have EVER given them premission to automatically charge you credit card.

Contract Termination
My son joined on a month-to-month basis and used Bally's for 2 months, from May 16-June 18, 2009, and Bally's continued to bill his credit card for another 12 months. When i called, they graciously agreed to stop future billing but refuse to refund the excess billing. Sure he may not have called, but since they verified his period of use and the fact that he is was an international student (i.e. non US citizen), their refusal to refund is unreasonable. He is certain that the close-out process was not pointed out to him, especially when he told them he was only there for less than 2 months. What a rip off!!!

Scammers
If you EVER think about signing up with Bally Fitness, listen to my story and you will definitely run away from this place.

All the employees of the Bally are masked with smiling faces. Just wait until you sign that contract and you can see their expression change upon the last flick of your signature. I was not satisfied with their service after 3 months, mostly due to horrible ventilation system, which makes the air in the gym smell musty and almost cancerous at times. But I found that it was really impossible for me to cancel the contract. So after 3 long years, I pay the last payment of the contract in Feb and I told the guy I talked to that I do NOT want to renew, which he said it automatically renews if I don't cancel. And he told me if I wanted to cancel I must call on the day of contract ends. I called day before the contract ends, which is today, and now they are telling me I actually have to write a letter and sent it halfway across the States to cancel. And that he was "sorry" that I was misinformed, but I still have to pay if it goes on to month-to-month. Why had the first guy told me to call on the day that contract ends? So I miss the chance to send the letter and goes on to month-to-month? And I asked the guy to give me the address to send the mail to cancel, and he did. I asked HIM to repeat it to double check. Later I went online to check, that a$$hole gave me the wrong address. Nice try. All they want is money from you and there is practically NO service. Stay far away from them if you value the money you earned.

invalid contract still charged
I signed my 11 year old daughter up for the summer at 10 extra permonth to see if she was interested in the swimming they offered. The desk person said I could cancel at the end of the summer if she was not interested. She did not go once so I told the desk to take her off the program. He punched in the computer and said it was done. 15 month later when I canceled one of my bank accounts Bally's started collections because apparently they were still taking the extra money out of the bank. they said I would be refunded. That person was probably fired because I continue getting collection calls and had to pay the remainder of the two year contract. the problem is the contract was verbally broken, but more importantly the contract was for a child who was of the age of 14 years or older. so it was an invalid contract to start with but they kept refering to it. I have got a lawyer or filed a suit for the 210 extra I spent. I was happy with all the other services of the company but found it to be very ready to fight billing issues even if it was void and null. I will not do business with them again I am cancelling my current membership which I have had for 5 year and will patronize the local community centers.

I tried to cancel my membership at Ballys after I studied in the US for 2 year as an international student. I also signed up my two roommates. My visa expired and I left the country for good. Now I get those emails stating that they want to talk about my membership. I sent them a copy of my passport to proof my citizenship, a copy of my bank statement with my foreign address and a letter stating that I will leave the country by the end of November. So I sent things out and thought everything was great. They never called me or anything. Now they want almost $300 of me even though nobody has used the gym since then. If there is somebody who could give me some advice please let me know.

wrongful billing
I recieved a bill from Bally Fitness gym saying I owe them 113.07 cents. I had stopped the services three months ago and I really resent this so call bill from the fitness gym that I have not visited in a long time. If they send me this kind of a letter again, I will take this and the next letter to a small claim court and sue for harrassment and incorrect billing. I also have a transcript of a Telecommuncation Device phone call stating that the person I called on the bill saying that he will stop the memberships and stop the billing which I will use as a part of my claim against Bally Fitness if they bother me again.
The number on the bill is 2604485941006.
