Golds gym buying Bally
Bally continues to lay off employees. Golds gym is buying bally. They're awful to their customers and employees. Can't wait for all their dirty gyms to close. Never ever obtain a membership there.

Refused Refund After I Was Told I Would Recieve it
My gym closed with less that 2 weeks notice. They didn't just cancel memberships but transitioned them to "global" telling me I could use any Bally's facility. This would be fine except for the closest location was FOUR HOURS AWAY. So I called to cancel and get a refund of the Personal Training money that I had in the system. They wouldn't do anything for me until my location actually closed. I now see that they do this so that I will have no place to go to talk to a live person if I have issues.
It is very difficult to get to a human on the phone, their system hung up on me several times. Once I did speak to people they were very rude. 2 separate people told me that the money was in the system and would be processed after the gym closed. Once the gym closed I was told that the sessions had "expired" a month earlier and I would not be receiving a refund. They told me they had a contract on file that said so but refused to send it to me unless I gave them a $10 service fee to send it to me. When I stated that I was told I would get the money he just said that was wrong and a "training opportunity" for them. VERY RUDE. Not interested in helping me. No value to the customer.

Fraud
Well I am here to complain about the Bally Total Fitness at Pleasant Hill, CA. When my husband and I joined the club, we were coaxed by the manager (John) repeatedly to join the personal training session, however the contract clearly says that once bought we cannot cancel the sessions under most circumstances. We showed our concern to the manager and he said that he has the right to change or cancel the contract because he is the "MANAGER" of the place and runs it entirely. Anytime we want to leave and do not wish to continue he will take the responsibility. So we joined, after a month our trainer whom we were very happy with said he is leaving, none of the other trainers were at par with him and our body had gotten so much conditioned to his style that it was really difficult for us to move on. Earlier we had tried another trainer and it was a big pain. So we went to the new manager (the one making false promises had disappeared as he had done the same with many others), and the new manager said that nothing can be done about it, even though her own colleague committed a verbal fraud but because of the contract nothing can be done. Well first of all, contract no where promises great results or anything, even those dreams are sold to us verbally by the staff who get us into signing, so if then written agreement is not considered so then if a MANAGER commits a verbal FRAUD why isn't that an offence. Moreover, I have witness to this case as people I know accompanied me. Apart from this there are others who were cheated by the same manager JOHN. So what can I do in this situation?

Rip off
I have been a member since 1990 when it was President Health Club. I called today to suspend my account and was told it would be 4 dollars a month. I informed Shawn Id #864 that I have an Executive II membership. He informed I don’t care what you think you have and I don’t care what your membership cards says or what your old contract says you will pay the 4 dollar monthly suspension fee. I asked to speak with his supervisor and he stated he was the supervisor and no one was over him. I then informed him I was filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. Then he decides that he has a supervisor that will call me in three working days. I have filed that complainant with the FTC I suggest everyone else do the same. This is how a 21 year loyal customer is treated?

over crowded
Bally Total fitness uses low price strategy to allow as many people to join the gym. However the facility could not handle so many people, which has caused every class is jam packed. Overcrowded class room are filled up with people, weight and equipment are dangerously displayed everywhere. Some gym starts to give numbers to restrict number of people to have the class. Even through people still could barely move around in the classroom. Situation is getting worse, people start fighting for the class and more confusion has caused due to the misunderstanding of misplaced equipment. The experience in Bally Total fitness has currently become chaos nightmare.

Lied and scammed me
I went to the Culver City location on Wednesday night, January 05, 2011 and sales associate Ana assisted me. She stated that the computer system was down and that she could not sign me up. I agreed to a three year pre-paid contract for $559 and she took my personal information and took my credit card. She swiped my card twice and stated that it was required because one copy goes to the main office. She stated that she was going to give me a call once the computer system is up so she could input the information in the system and finalize the transaction. I was not given anything other than a voided sales slip number 5041191. She assured me that I was not going to be charged prior to the finalization.
However, this morning when I checked my credit card transactions, a $559 charge was posted on Thursday, January 06, 2011. I went to the Culver City location after work around 530 PM and the General Manager - I believe it was Eric Duggert, assisted me since Ana was on lunch break according to him. I told him that I was canceling my membership and he .stated that cancellation has to be made through email and gave me this email address as well as my account number. The General Manager did not offer any explanation as to why the transaction was finalized without my knowledge. The GM was unwilling to provide me with a hard copy of the supposed contract insisting that only the main office has the ability to print it, which I find utterly unbelievable. I find it ludicrous that my credit card would be charged without finalization of the agreement, without any signatures but he could not provide me with the contract. In addition, from what I gleaned in the GM's computer screen, there is a $29.95 per month fee after the three year contract which was never even discussed. I specifically asked Ana what my renewal fees would be after three years and she stated that it would be al ot cheaper like $8 a month because she had a similar contract.
I understand that there might have been an "oversight" in this particular case. However, if this was done with malice, this is unfair business practice to say the least and violates the Consumer Protection Act. I told the General Manager that since he is what he is, he should be responsible for what his employees represent.
I am expecting a prompt full refund of the charges and a satisfactory explanation of what transpired.

"FREE" pass
I just went into my local Bally Total Fitness (Garland, TX) with that so-called 7-day "free" pass and imagine my surprise when they have a prominently displayed sign up front that says "any guest/visitor with a pass must pay $10.00 per day" !!! I showed them my pass that said "free" and they said "yes, it'll be $10.00 per day". I said "no way" and walked out. I am still trying to figure out what is free about $10.00 per day? If you look very hard you will find it buried in the fine print on the "FREE" pass? WTH ?? I sent them a complaint email.

Discrimination
I went to get apply for a job at bally fitness and turned in my resume and was told I have to have a natonally recongized certification to work in the personal trainer postion, almost immediatly right after I turned in my resume a friend of mine who just happened to be white went in and got the positon with out the certification. The funny thing is I was dressed in nice slacks and a nice professional long sleeve shirt and he was in shorts and a shirt that looked like it would be something he would work out in.

discourtesy
On aug 23 2010 at approximately 4:30 pm I walked into ballys at rockville center with my wife and 2 children. I was hoping to work out with my wife and leave my kids at the kids club. The gentlemen at the front desk informed me that my kids would not be able to stay at the kids club because the kids club starts at 6:00 pm. I explained to the gentleman at the front desk that if they could please let me leave my kids at the kids club and I would check up on them, this is something that this gym has let me do before. The gentleman said he could not help me, I then asked to speak to the manager whos name is Brian Miller. I asked Mr. Miller if he could consider this because this is something that they let me do in the past. Mr Miller was very arrogant and discourtious, he told me that never happened at that gym, basically calling me a liar. Mr Miller told me he was the manager there since october, I told him that this courtesy was given to me last summer. Mr Miller did not care or speak to me in a respectful manner, he told me that the kids club started at 6 and he did not want kids in the gym. Mr Miller then became irate because my wife took the kids to see the pool he said "there go your kids walking around the gym thats a problem" I told him that my wife took them to see the pool and that she was a member when he stated with a very bad tone that he didnt see my wife. Ive been a member of ballys for 13 years and I never had a problem. I know that ballys has its rules and regulations but the way Mr Brian Miller was very unprofessional. He never even bothered to ask me for my name. I feel that a gym that welcomes kids to there gym should be a little more considerate and thoughtful on the way they handle kids and the parents that bring them. Mr Brian Miller left a sour taste in my mouth and I am honestly considering canceling my wife and my membership and going somewhere else where I may be treated with more courtesy and professionalism
