Awful management with no idea of customer satisfaction
This is the background to what occurred 30 July 2011 from our perspective for our 3 year old and 1 year old born on the same day. We had a booking starting at 10h30 till 12h30 for 25 kids and 40 adults. We were first on the booking sheet they had at the front door.
We arrived at 10h00 to start decorating our table, only to discover that our table was given to someone else who had a similar sounding name as Gail (which was discovered later to be Adre, which is obviously not similar). This other party had a booking for 25 in total. A simple solution would have been for management to insist that it had been booked and that the other party had begun to set up in an incorrect place, and should move. The management at the restaurant then proceeded to back off from the smaller party who wanted our prearranged tables (which was set up for our larger party). Management attempted to then set up into a smaller venue (right hand side of bar) where other paying customers refused to move. As an attempt to set up again, by 10h30 (our arranged time for booking) they decided to set up outside on a cold day where we would have 25 children and 40 adults. I now refused as this would not work and our guests had already started to arrive. A final place was a place designated to the party for Adre (i.e. 25 people with their name on the table) for our guests of 40 adults and 25 children, and to make matters worse, an idea was proposed to seat all the children around the corner next to our original place while their respective parents would not have sight of the children (as a child friendly place, this seems incredibly unsuitable given that it was a birthday party for a 3 year old, which I obviously refused to accept). All the guests pitched up and you can only begin to understand my deep resentment to the situation as there was insufficient seating and tables.
Subsequent to this all happening and my visible anger at the situation, management disappeared and we were left to sort out this by ourselves. Our family had to procure chairs and rearrange seating in an overly cramped space, where more than 15 people had to constantly stand. Given the small space most children were seated on their parents laps. Our prearranged drinks and waiters for the kids was given to the party of Adre and we had to find 2 waiters to give us service. The 2 waiters should be thanked for their calm demeanour they showed to us, given everyone’s visible frustration. Also our prearranged meals were subsequently forgotten and we had to approach the kitchen staff to help get the food delivered to the kids. We also had to attempt to get drinks orders delivered as everyone was too busy. The whole 3 hours of our 3 year olds party is not something worth remembering.
I paid the 50% of the bill as suggested by management, however this still does not make me in anyway happier on the whole debacle. Also the suggestion given at 11h45 for the private function room is a slap in the face, given that the party was to be from 10h30 to 12h30. Given that we also had a bill which had in total 54 shots of whiskey. I understand that doubles were requested, however 27 doubles drunk by 7 people, and everyone walked out the restaurant. This seems a gross over billing.
Totally disgusted by this restaurant.

Only go here if you don't want food
Definitely not a case of third time lucky. Have been to Bambanani twice before, both times vowing never to go back, even though there's a wonderful play area for the children. Sitting around being ignored by staff just doesn't justify the fun the kids may have. Went there for the third time today, were happy to sit out in the cold, but after an hour, and despite having to get up and go inside twice to ask if there was any forward movement on our order, we decided it was just a bit much and told them we're going. In the hour and a half we were there, nobody came back to ask if we'd like another drink. It was only as we were leaving that they arrived with the starters and half the main courses we'd ordered, and neither of the children's orders.
If this had been a one time thing, would probably let it slide, but seriously, this is ridiculous... They should really get their act a little more jacked up, as we're not the only disgruntled customers they've had...
