Lack of Care
I have been a wellness plan member for 6 years and added my second dog to the plan 2 years ago. My second dog is a german shepard and is very active. Three weeks ago he cut himself pretty deeply and needed stitches. The plan coverd most of the cost and I had to pay a little over 300 to cover the stitches and meds. Two days later my dog removed his stitches and I took him back again, this time the damage was about 250 for the stitches and meds. Last week my dog cut himself again and needed more stitches. Another 300. Two day later he gets sick vomiting and diarrheal due to the antibotics that was perscribed to him. We take him in again and walk out with a 150 dollar tab. Two days later we take him back in to remove a drainage tube that was placed in him durring the last stitches. We are watching him closely and go through three e-callars, but his stitches still manage to come a little loose. His doctor is not in but anther attends to him, we express our consern for the loose stitches and the doctor assures that they are fine, and still charges us an additional 40 dallors for a follow up visit. On the ride home our dog manages to take out all of his stitches. We call Banfield again and they tell us it is going to be an additional 400. We are going on 1500 in less than three weeks. Banfields new doctor seemed to get us out the door instead of treating our pet correctly. My wife and I have spent alot of money and missed alot of work to receive poor service from this doctor. Our dog is still suffuring and we are searching for a new clinic. If I spend over 1000 dollars I expect to receive somthing in exchange, not an additional bill for 400 dollars...

Variety of Doctors
When I signed up at your clinic I was told in advance that there was going to be one vet - so far there has been at least 10 there now I told there are two new ones and they want to do all these test on my dogs again. It seems like everytime you get a vet in your offices they want to do extensive work on the dogs that have been coming there for years (read the charts for gods sakes). I have an 2 elderly dogs and all they want to do is put them threw test that will cost me money (not them) and tell me what they want to happen to the dog (More money). I have already been threw this with the first vet there which caused nerve damage to my dogs leg and now it's to late to fix it and I fought with him about it (Cost me $600 to fine out nothing could be done from another vet). Then Dr White wanted to put them threw the test again I said fine but was not happy (Cost me even more money). I even had a friend who's dog went there 6 months ago and almost died because of the vet did she now takes her somewhere else and the dog looks great (Cost her $4, 000 and your doctors saying it was not there fault). I don't know who you hire but a better back ground check should be done along with some compassion and understanding of the owners. I have sent lots of people to your clinic only to hear horror stories from them I'm beginning to understand what they are saying

other side of story
Someone has to stick up for the poor overworked veterinarians at Banfield! Firstly remember that veterinary costs everywhere ARE high, there's no way of getting round that. Now, you have to realise that 90% of Banfield doctors are either new graduates or married women veterinarians who are just doing the job for some extra money and usually work part-time. Banfield pet hospitals are usually sited in less-desirable areas of big cities and operate like a big corporation, not like a regular doctor-owned veterinary clinic. As such, the veterinarians don't have any say in how many patients are to be seen each day, how long they can spend with them etc. and cannot even work up a faithful clientel, as clients are not allowed to book in to see a particular doctor. The new graduates are very keen and knowledgeable, but get bogged down in the "Banfield ethos"; in other words, they have to see as many patients as they possibly can in order to get anything like a reasonable salary; the older established doctors have gotten used to "pushing" clients into treatments in order to bonus-up their pay. So, your pet may be seen by a very caring and knowledgeable doctor, or by a "I'm in a rush as they booked too many patients in today and I have to get through them - sorry you had to wait so long". Tip : even if you know it's not possible, always ask to see a particular veterinarian that you were happy with, who knows, they may get the message. You could ring up and ask which veterinarians are on duty that day, and if your trip is routine, wait till the good doctor in on!

Poor Services/all about the bottom line
I have been on the pet wellness program over the past 3 to 4 years. Recently my credit card # changed and they could not take out the 20.00 a month. They are always calling and put me in collections. Well I have never signed a contract, so don't know why I would be put into collections. Then I had to bring my dog in on an emergency due to my daughter accidenly spilling hot water on him. I call Banfield 1st letting them know what happened and informed them I am at work and could not get the dog in right away. I had ask what my children could do until I could get the dog in. The stated there is nothing they could do, there is no over the counter medication they could give him, I would have to bring him in to be seen. On that note I contacted my sister to please take the dog in. When she arrived they made her wait for 1 1/2 hours before being seen. They stated they would do nothing for the burn because it was not red, and just to keep an eye on him. But inform my sister that his ears are durty and has and ear infection, they wanted to do a test to see what kind of infection he had. She told them ok. They never mentioned that he is over due on his shots. The bill came to $125.00. My dog has not been having any problems with his ears!! I did not use the medication and brought my dog to a new Vet. They cleaned his ears and gave him all of the shots needed to bring him up to date. He had 2 shots, nails clipped, ears cleaned. I asked if he had an ear infection and they stated no just durty. I returned to Banfield very upset, stated I would like a refund on medication my dog did not need. They stated no I could not do that. I informed them I went to a new Vet. and he does not need it, no infection and how upset I am about this. And complained how they made my dog wait so long knowing that he was coming in on an emergency. And that I was not there for his ears but for a burn. When I stated to get very angry with the employee she stated in front of everyone that I was in collections.
I do not know what this has to do with the treatment of my dog, but was very upset that she seemed to want to inform everyone in the waiting room to this information. I feel they were just trying to make money and did not give a crap about my dog!! I have never seen the Vet. He has the dogs go in the back, he never comes out to talk. I will NEVER bring my pets to Banfield again.

Paid for blood work that never went anywhere for diagnosis?
We have had our pets on the most expensive plan since 1998/1999. Took our dog in as his jaw seemed to be hurting and there was blood coming from his mouth/tongue. The vet in our presence never even looked at his mouth. All Banfield is concerned about is being able to bill for comprehensive exams, all the insane things like eye pressure tests, deworming, dental cleaning (we did with one dog and in one month her teeth had just as much tartar), x rays of the middle section (now if they really had a plan it would be xrays of the entire dog as most problems will occur around the mouth/throat) etc. etc. Our male dog has to have continuous checking of his thyroid. (low thyroid missed by banfield which caused enlarged heart and irregular heart beat-it was only after I researched the internet and found that all his symptoms were low thryroid and I asked the vet if they had ever had that tested and she said no. Well his thryoid hardly read on the charts, it was so low. Back to this visit. .We paid for the thyroid test - after drawing blood they said there equipment wasn't working and it would have to be sent out. I have been calling daily to get the results. Today after some 11 days from having the blood drawn, they say it is "lost". They don't know where it is. The lab said they never got it. So we would have to drag our dog down for more blood to be drawn. This is a 15 year old small dog who is blind and deaf. When this July comes up for renewal we may terminate the contract and go elsewhere. They are close and handy, but in all these years I truely do not see that they have the animals best interest at heart. Also, all they want to do is drop offs, which with older dogs with ailments and bllindness and deafness, is not a reasonable thing to do. So visits can take up to 2 hours or longer - with both dogs it is usually about a 2 and 1/2 hour to 3 hour visit. Which is ridiculous.

wellness plan
I signed up for Banfields wellnes plan after our first visit ended up with an unexpected surgery. I was stressed about losing my dog who I had only adopted the week before. Since then I decided to bite the bullet and pay the money every month because it must help right? Not even close, everytime I take my dog there for a "covered" visit, it ends up costing me a fortune. I dont trust these people and I dont think they have my dogs, or anyone elses pets health in their best interest.

Refused to be Seen
I have a 5 month old pit bull who when we got her had Kennel Cough. We have been trying to get rid of this for a month now. A week ago my cat got into something toxic and became paralyzed and almost died. Seeing that we take our dog to Banfield we decided to take the cat there for treatment as well, as it was close to home and an emergency. I was told the blood and urine tests ran $250+ and was basically made to choose whether to get help for my cat or take her home to die. Of course I told them to run the tests but asked if they took payment plans because we did not have all the money upfront. I was told they do not take payment plans but we could pay what we could and the balance would be sent to collections after 10 days and we could just make payment arrangements to the collection company. So 2 days later I picked up the cat, had a balance of $558.37 (which I paid $90 then) and left.

Well now a week later, my dog is still sick and needed to be seen. She is on the wellness plan so I made her an appointment and took her up there. I was denied service because I had an open balance. After arguing with the lady behind the counter for more than 10 minutes, she went and got the Vet who came out and asked what the problem was. I explained what happened and that my dog is ill and needs medication and needs to be seen. The Vet was really trying to work with me and asked if I could make a payment on the balance, pay the office visit (for the cat) and for medications, to which I said I totally could, I just did not have the $468.37 up front or I would not have left a balance to begin with. Well, the front desk lady rudely interrupted and said nope, can't do it, it has to be paid in full or it will be sent to collections and the insurance will be canceled. I broke down in tears because my pets are my babies and how can they turn us away! They have my credit card information for the wellness plan, it is not like I am trying to run off without paying, we had a pet emergency and I just think it is so sad to say you care about pets but then make people choose whether or not to pay rent or let your animal die.

I did call this morning and talked to someone who was very helpful and gave me the number to corporate and the office manager. I hate that this has happened and do not want this to screw up our health plan, but I am pretty sure it will and after the episode last night, I will be finding a different Vet to take my animals to.

I still to date have not received anything from Banfield showing me what all they did to my cat, the costs estimates, etc..

The lady behind the counter had no right to talk to me the way she did, said that Most people don't leave a balance and there are no Vets out there that will allow a balance to carry over, which is b.s. because I have taken my animals to a vet that allows payments on high balances...which is where I should have taken my dying cat to in the first place but Banfield was closer and it was a true life or death emergency. I am grateful they saved my cat but am very displeased about the lack of customer service

distemper shot
My little yorkie pup died yesterday becasue of shock distemper shot. They performed deworming, her parvo shots, and the diphenhydramine injectable. We took her to Banfield Hazel Dell location in Vancouver, WA.

When we had purchase her from a breeder in Yakima, WA. She was a playful puppy at 9 weeks old @, 8 oz. She was eating and drinking well. The following day after getting her, we took her to Bannfield 11/06/10 to get her checked, they reccommended us getting her puppy shots and dewormed, so we did as advise, but informed them prior that she has already been dewormed and had her 1st shot on 10/27/10, but from what the "profession" advise that it was going to be ok, so we took it. She came home fine for about 30 min, and collapse. She was so weak, paralyzed, and had vomit and diahrrea. I knew she was dehydrated from this so I kept forcing water to her and tried feeding her.

I called the vets there and she said it was totally normal for puppy to have this reaction. I waited another day, my little one was not getting any better and first thing in the morning took her to the vet at Bannfield again. They simply did not know what was wrong with her. I left her there for the rest of the day where they put some support for her and told us she has low blood sugar. When they closed at 7, I picked her up and she was still so weak, but the vet there told us she was going to survive, and she was doing very well. She had said that her chaces of surviving were high. She them reccommended taking her to the emergency vet.

We then took her to the emergency vet, there the vet took sample of her blood an ran all other tests just like the vet at Banfield did. He told us that her blood sugar was very low her chances were not very high even if we get a blood tranfusion, that's when I did not want to see my baby suffer any longer. I cried for hours and still am.

My hospital bills for my baby is sky rise, and she is not even here with me because Banfield kept giving me hope that there was still life in her. I am mad the fact that the vets at Bannfield knew she probably couldn't make it but gave us so much hope so we can go back there and the emergency vet so my baby suffer and they can make their money!(BAN FAIL)I am fill with regrets I took her to Bannfield. They have injected way too many vaccination in such a little one. Vets should know better how much a newly, small baby can take.

We called this morning 11/09/10 to cancel the puppy membership and informed them that our little angel is no longer here with us.

In memories of Dora 9/7/10-11/08/10 R.I.P.

MISDIAGNOSIS! CAUSED MORE HARM THAN GOOD!
Our story with Banfield begins on August 25th 2010. My 11 week old black lab puppy and i were running thru the front yard when he ran between my legs and i stepped on his back leg. He let out the loudest cry i have ever heard out of a dog.

So immediately my girlfriend and I took the dog to banfield fearing that his leg was broken. We had x rays done and received a call about 7 house later finally letting us know what was wrong with our dog. They told us he had a fracture of the tibia right on the growth plate. they said surgery was a good possibility. But never once showed us the x rays. They splinted it and told us come back in a week for new x rays and new splint (first visit cost us $580). They said he would be healed up in about two weeks after another set of x rays to make sure. Which would end up costing another $500 for each set of x rays and splinting. Then we took him home. within two hours the newly placed splint was already falling off the puppies leg.

The following day Leroy was uncomfortable, and was moaning and groaning because of the splint moving. we took him in that day to have the splint readjusted. They wanted to charge us more money for a soiled bandage because the bottom was ruined. (it was ruined because it was falling off his leg). After the splint was fixed Leroy was a happy puppy and adjusting to his injured leg.

Finally the day came for Leroy’s first week exam. The nurses changed out his splint and wanted to do x rays but we declined because of the money they wanted to charge us. He was never the same after the splint change. Leroy was sleepy, moaning and groaning, not eating nor drinking. He just laid in his bed all day and night. We took him back to Banfield the next day saying something was wrong with him. They did a full exam and said he was fine and tried selling us $700 worth of blood work to make sure he was ok.

We then asked to please see the first set of x rays, with the doctor replying with "our x ray machine is broke". We asked what that had to do with previous x rays and then she pulled up the x rays after us questioning her for a couple minutes. She then showed me and circled a rather large area stating that they were unsure where the fracture was but it was somewhere in the area where she circled. I asked her who said it was fractured and she stated the company they send out the x rays to said it was fractured. After some confusion on why they now changed their story on whether it was broke or fractured, now my girlfriend and I were questioning whether his leg was even fractured/broke in the first place. we asked the doctors for a copy of the x rays and she said we would have to buy them off them, and quickly asked why? We said we wanted to get a second opinion. The doctor then got all flustered and started back tracking on whether his leg was really hurt in the first place.

so after a few hours of sitting at home we decided to go get our second opinion. we took Leroy to an animal hospital/orthopedic surgery office. They talked to us for about an hour wanting to know our story and how everything happened. They Then removed the splint, to our horror on what we saw next my girlfriend broke down in tears. to our surprise he had two soars on is leg that were dripping blood on the table. one of which was about a half inch think and almost to the bone. This would explain why he was in so much pain, and the banfield doctors failed to let us know about theses soars the day prior when the changed out his bandage. So after the new doctor was done cleaning up his wounds, they took him back for x rays. About 10 minutes later the doctor came back and told us that his leg was not fractured/broke nor was there any signs that there was ever anything to indicate there was one. This made us so upset that they would do this to poor Leroy and hose us for money in the process.

I apologize for the long story, but we felt our story needed to be heard. We have attached pictures of the soars to show why I would not recommend Banfield to anybody.

Poor Treatment and harrassment
I took my dog to banfield because he was not feeling well. I just wanted him to be checked for a stuffy nose. I had taken him to this same Banfield hospital before and he was seen by a woman vet, which I don't remember her name. My dog, about 6 years ago had a rabies shot that he had a bad response to and started to urinate out his red blood cells. He had become very week and needless to say I spent A LOT of money to make him better. The vet that we would see at that time was not a Banfield employee, she proceeded to tell me that this dsease was caused by the rabies shot and would most likely happen again. She stated that my dog would not have to have a rabies shot every year and I could do it every 3 years!!!...WHAT?? why would I want him to have this shot AT ALL...EVER!! Well needless to say I end up at Banfield and they say he is going to have to get a rabies shot...I say No he's not getting a rabies shot and tell them the story...at the front desk...so they put me in a room with my dog and an assistant comes in to ask a bunch of questions that really has nothing to do with why you're even there. So she says he is going to have to have a rabies shot and I say NO he's not having a rabies shot and explain the story to HER...so then the vet comes in and says I'm not going to push the rabies thing today...ok good...did what she needed to do for the reason I was there...so a few months later I have to bring my same dog back for something else...he is seen by a differnet vet which I had been familiar with from my other dog...so again front desk rabies shot...explain the story again...same girl...same dog...so she says it's the law blah blah...if I don't want my kids to be vaccinated and can make it so they are not...why is it I can be forced by a jerky vet to give my dog a vaccination that I don't want him to have...firmly you can see this...this vet says I have BAD news...right off the bat...doesn't introduce himself or anythng...even though I was familiar with him...he had no idea who I was...anyway proceeds to tell me that if I don't allow him to give my dog a rabies shot he cannot treat my dog...so I explain the story to him and he looks at me with this face of disgust...and says OH WELL if you don't get the vaccine I can't treat him...so I say ok then I will go elsewhere...I pick up MY dog and go to walk out and HE SAYS...if you wanlk out that door...I WILL CALL THE COPS ON YOU AND THEY WILL TAKE YOUR DOG AWAY AND EUTHINIZE HIM!!! WTF???!!! are you serious right now??...I could NOT believe what I was hearing...he then tells me that it will cost 150.00 for everything he needs to do...I tell him I only have 120.00 he looks at me again with disgust...now the last time I had gone it only cost me 60.00 so I expected about the same and really only took 100.00 for the appt but had to spend ALL of my money...he ended up knocking a few things off the list to make it 120.00 because he KNEW that's how much money I had...he didn't care if my kids were eating that week or not all he cared about was getting that money...you should have seen this guy and how pissed he got each time I stated my opinion...I told him he was a PR*CK if you can figure it out and told him I would NOT be returning to that hospital with EITHER of my pets...I was soooooo pissed that I told him to hurry up and do what he had to do so that I could get out of there...I no longer wanted to be there...he bullied me, he harrassed me, and it was all for the mighty dollar...What's the matter were you not meeting your monthly quoter...did they threaten to FIRE you if you didn't bring in a certian amount of MULAH each month...when I stated to him that the other vet didn't make me get the rabies vaccine for him he proceeded to tell me she has since been fired and has charges being brought on her by the state of Mass...HUH?? FUNNY the girl at the front desk said she was on MATERNITY LEAVE...what losers...which of you is lying??...you know what I don't even care...I will def be taking MY BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!!! I don't care what ANY BANFIELD EMPLOYEE HAS TO SAY. and I will be complaining to corporate...over and over until something is done.
