Awful company
I took my 11 wk Dalmatian puppy in to Banfield b/c she had a small lump on her neck that seemed to be tender when touched. The attending vet looked at her & immediately told us it was cancer & said that it needs to be surgically removed IMMEDIATELY or that my puppies life was in danger. For some reason, in the back of my mind I did not believe the lump was cancerous at all. I had to ASK THE VET for an anti-inflammatory to try to bring down the swelling. The veterinarian was very rude and condescending when I would ask her questions about my puppies' health.
She gave us a weeks' worth of anti-inflammatory & an antibiotic & we scheduled the appt for surgery, b/c we didn't know what else to do. During the course of the next week, the bump started to get smaller, so we decided to take Kali to another vet to get a second opinion.
This vet was EXTREMELY thorough & even withdrew fluid from the bump & sent it to the lab to be tested, a procedure that the vet at Banfield told me was not possible. The results came back today, & the lab determined that the bump is an inflammation & has absolutely no cancerous cells whatsoever.
Banfield wanted to put my 3 month old puppy through a surgery that was not necessary at all. They determined that the bump was cancerous based on absolutely no medical findings. I will never take Kali back to Banfield again!!!
Hopefully this review will save somebody from the stress & worry that I went through to find out her bump was nothing! Luckily she is all better & happy as can be.

Awful company
I took our pet for an office visit and several times declined their "plans" but they wouldn't give up! They just kept asking if I wanted the plan for $442 or the one for $514. And these prices didn't include the medication they were suggesting.
Since they were so determined that I was going to give them some major money, they charged almost $70 for a 3 day supply of ear ointments, in addition to the $45 charge for the visit. I got no refills, of course, so my dog will have the same problem in a few days unless I put up with the sales pitch again and pay another $115. And buying one of their plans wouldn't even help with the cost, since the meds are not included and are ridiculously over-priced - from Banfield's own Glenhaven brand, so they profit from anything they prescribe, also.
Too bad they can't care half as much about a pet's health as they care about filling their pockets. I've had dogs all my live and never objected to paying a fair amount for pet care, but this is a rip-off. I'm out a good chunk of hard-earned money and my dog's problem is not even solved. Obviously, I'll never go back.

Rip off
They actually refused to treat my cat unless you pay $400 up front!! They do not examine your cat, they just don't care!!! I complaint to the company and never follow back!!! Do not go there! They are so unprofessional, i would never advise you to go there, they do not know what they're doing, don't buy any ''welness plan'', they will try to get you to buy it, it's rip off.
Go to anther vet, do yourself a big favor, these people are not qualified to touch your pet, shame on them!!!

Awful place
We had just purchased a puppy and she had a stuffy nose and was sneezing. We took her to Banfield hospital waited two hrs to be seen. When the doctor finally came to see our precious Sesi he asked us what her symptoms were. We told him what we knew and b4 even examining her look at Dad straight in the face and said, " Oh you should take her back and get your money back, 'cause what she has will KILL her." WTF??? How the *** could he say such a thing without examining her first? Thank god my dad had brains to tell him we just needed medicine to decongest her and he should probably take a look at her before making assumptions. Well they ran tests and still could not tell us what was wrong with our pup. We called the main office & they said they would look into it. Yeah a call back like a day later, "Oh we have found that there were no errors on our part!", they said. F#@$ that place. This is not even the only messes up thing that happened that day this is only the worst part. Well needless to say, Sesi is back to clear breathing with no more sneezing! I'm pretty sure she's still breathing! F@#k OFF Banfield
Oh and all you Banfield protectors stop shootin to defensive mode when you read these complaints, until they treat you pet like a piece of S#$T you have no room to talk.

Awful place
Banfield is ridiculous!!! All they care about is PUSHING their pet wellness plan on you!!! I took my 16 week old kitten for a routine booster shot and walked out with a kitten that had an injured leg. While trying to take my kittens temp. They were man-handling her to the point that she was screaming in pain/fear. The day after the visit my kitten could not put any pressure on her right front leg and was crying and shivering in pain. When I tried to call Banfield (at 2pm) they were closed. The phone message suggested that I call an alternate number (another vet/not banfield) When I called that number, they were either CLOSED TOO or just not answering!! I called the corperate number for Banfield but was quickly told that they could not resolve my problem. So basically Banfield Pet Hospital Corporation expects my cat to just "deal with" the pain UNTIL they are open... and even then they could not say if they would or would NOT pay for the needed medical care to repair the injury!!! I SUGGEST NEVER NEVER EVER GOING TO A BANFIELD ANIMAL HOSPITAL!!!

Scam and cheating
I called Ben-field to see if I can sign up for the wellness program at the same time my cocka poo puppy can be spayed. The women answered the phone was not friendly at all. Later I found out that she was the same lady who was there when I signed up for the program. It looks like she works there full time She is there all the time. She told me that the Dog needs Physical when I signed up for wellness program. It will take about an hour. So I left my dog there. and she told me to pick her up in an hour. when I came back to pick up my dog this receptionist does not acknowledge me at all although I was standing there waiting. I was there on time to pick up my dog. She was just talking and socializing with another customer and She glancing over me saying. "Your dog is not ready". How rude. no apology what so ever. I told her Could you please call me when she is ready. and I left my phone cell phone there.
I would like to cancel wellness program that I signed up for but How can I do that. Right now My dog is in for surgery at Ben-field I am so worry about her. I am very happy with the Vet we go to Everyone there loves my dog. Only reason I chose this place because we couldn't set up an appointment soon enough for her spaying. I want to go back to my old Vet. I have another dog 3 year old beagle. My old Vet loves my two dogs.
Another thing is that my dogs physical record shows her weight is little over 10 pounds. Her surgery schedule date is one week later. her weight is over 16 pound. She didn't gain that much weight in one week and her physical record shows her ear was checked and oder free but also that is not true her ear was small at that time. I had to confirmed three times for my dog's surgery date. They picked the wrong date for the surgery. No apology from their part.
I will look into canceling wellness program. Ben-field and Pet Smart are not the store with friendly people working.
They are not nice to all the animals at all. They pick and choose. I thinks all the animals are precious and special. and If you can't be nice to all the animals They shouldn't be working there.

Scam and cheating
My cat was having problems breathing and meowing because she swallowed something. We went to banfield, but when the vet found that the cat didn't have a vaccine for 2 years he panicked. He said he cannot do anything with the cat because if someone gets scratched, the cat will have to stay in isolation at banfield for 10 days and the person that got scratched will have to get medical examinations. They wanted to give my cat FIVE xrays, 2 blood checks and a bunch of other things which would cost me almost $1800.
I went to a private animal hospital, the vet took a leather glove, held my cat and gave vaccinations. He put something into my cat's throat and removed a little marble. My total cost = $170.

Terrible experience
Our dog started puking last night and then had bloody stool this morning, called our vet "Banfield" at PetsMart and said we think she has parvo "HELP". We were told they had new patients and well dog visits all day but they could see her at 4pm 7hours later. So we found another local vet who saw her immediately he confirmed that she did have parvo. He also said this is highly fatal in puppies and the longer you wait the higher the chances are of death. Needless to say we have a new vet. Banfield seemed more interested in Corporate Money than in the actual care of our puppy.

Terrible service
I came in at midnight with my yorkie trying to give birth - I set in the reception 30 min before being sent to a little exam room set in there another hour listening to the very young girls out front and a young tech (male) laughing and talking with each other - then a new client walked in and they all carried on - mean while my dog is spasming in pain and I am stressed to the max - finally I holler out and ask for someone to wait on me before my dog dies - a clerk from the front comes into my room hollers out the back door of the room a name I hear a response - but another hours passes with them laughing and carrying out front and me and my dog horrendously suffering in the little exam room by ourselves! Finally, I open the door and holler out again does my dog have to die first? Then finally the teck comes in with a snotty attitude - walks back out the vet walks in and starts to very rudely tell me off mean as heck! How dare I holler at his staff of retarded teenagers or so the acted. I am 58 I own 2 business and am more than willing to take and pass a polygraph to all I am stating.
After he gets through with is obnoxious oration telling me off - I tell him I was not rude but begging for help and explained to him what exactly was going on - he said I will have a talk with them to find out if what you are saying is the truth - like I am a liar!
Comes back and apologizes - 21/2 hours down now, dear God in heaven!! Finally they do a c-section - get 2 tiny premies - and I hear the pups born - hear them talking - and they wait another 2 hours to come in and tell me 2 premies were born. The bottomline I went through pure *** because of them and so did my dog... who went out of her head from what they did was never normal again and I had to put her down - the puppies died the next day... thank you Banfield for your lies - verbal and physical abuse and now they are demanding that I pay them over $1, 300.00 for this!!
Where is the justice in this world - Banfield should have its butt sued off and forced to shut down!
Instead they are like Walmart shoving all the good emergency clinics out of business just by shear numbers... Eventually what goes around comes around and even corporations and their hateful employees will reap what they have sewn.

Incompetent office stuff
Four weeks ago we took our 14yo Golden Retriever to the Banfield in North Phoenix. She was having trouble with her hips, a known problem for aging Goldens. She’s been on glucosamine and chondroiten for years but it was no surprise it was no longer working. The arthritis has gotten worse or this is just a temporary flare-up. In either case, she needs an anti-inflammatory and was prescribed Rimadyl for 2 weeks and then a re-check. A 2 weeks supply was about $38.
Two weeks ago we went back for her 6 mo exam. She’s also been on Soloxine for hyperthyroid for about a yr now. The vet was very nice, and did various tests. The report we got was that she’s also now anemic and has some unknown infection causing her white blood count to be high. She was prescribed 2 weeks of Clavamox for the infection, 2 more weeks of Rimadyl to help the arthritis pain in her hips, Hi-Vite to add iron for the anemia, and continued use of the Soloxine. (The glucosamine and chondroitin I’ve never gotten at the vet) The bill for the Clavamox, Rimadyl and Hi-Vite was about $149 for 2 weeks supply!!!
I told them I couldn’t afford it and would look on the internet for a better price. They said ok and let me walk out. This was on a Saturday morning. That afternoon I compared PetMeds.com and PetCareRx.com prices. I placed an order with PetCareRx.com for the Clavamox and Rimadyl. I couldn’t find the Hi-Vite on their site at the time.
Sunday I called PetCareRx.com to verify that they would be contacting the vet first thing Monday morning for approval and to determine shipping time. We agreed I should have the shipment by Friday.
Monday morning I called Banfield North Phoenix to let them know they’d be contacted for the approval and I needed to get enough pills to last until Friday, as well as the bottle of Hi-Vite. I picked them up later in the day for $50+ … for 4 days supply!!!
Later in the week, on Thursday I wanted to check to see if the delivery of the pills were on schedule. When I looked at PetCareRx.com the order hadn’t shipped yet. I called them to find out why not and they said they haven’t been able to get vet approval. So I called Banfield North Phoenix to see why. They told me they had just gotten the fax that morning. This didn’t sound right to me since I’ve been using PetCareRx.com for about a year to get the Soloxine and never had a problem. I asked if they were going to give the approval and they said not until the next day when the vet that examined my Golden was back in the office. I told them that wasn’t acceptable and who could I talk to with more authority. I was told I was talking to the Office Mgr Trisha. I asked who her boss was, or who was next in line with authority and she told me no one. She then said she’d talk to the vet that was there and came back to inform me that the vet didn’t want to approve medication for an animal she/he hadn’t examined. (The notes and medication prescription should have been in my animals records!!) Then I continue to press for someone of more authority to talk to and she said there was no one. I told her I needed more medication now to last until the shipment would arrive from PetCareRx.com. She said they would fill it for me but not a discounted price. I told her it should be free for their incompetence or at least give me the $20 to express the order from PetCareRx.com. She said she couldn’t do either. I again pressed for someone of more authority to talk to and she said I could call Banfield Corporate but I’d end up back with her. I took the number for Corporate. I work in the corporate world and know that there is always someone to escalate to unless you’re talking to the owner.
It was too late in the day at this point to call Corporate (Portland OR); however I called PetCareRx.com back to see why they just faxed Banfield North Phoenix Thursday morning from a Saturday order. They read all the order processing notes to me showing all the dates/times that phone calls were made to the Banfield North Phoenix office, voicemails left, no returned calls, so they finally sent a fax Thursday morning.
Friday morning I called Banfield Corporate and explained all of the above. The complaint department at Banfield Corporate was totally appalled at my experience. He told me that they have been price matching for quite some time now and that the office staff should have known all about it. He went on to explain that they have marketing brochures to be handed to the customers explaining how it works. He also told me that the minute I said I couldn’t afford their medication the office staff should have made sure I knew about their price matching policy.
He wrote everything up in a formal complaint which he then explained would go to the North Phoenix Office Manager (the girl I talked to - Trisha), her District Manager (see, I knew she had a boss someplace with more authority) and several other people he didn’t name. He told me to call the North Phoenix office to let them know that they need to price match the medications to PetCareRx.com or any other place I choose and if I have any trouble to call him back (or have them call corporate). He also informed me that they will honor price matching for 30 days and for me to get my previous invoices taken care of as well. All I needed was a print out from the website I was looking at that shows the product name, dosage and price.
I finished with the Banfield Corporate call before the North Phoenix office was open. Several hours later I gave them a call. They were all surprised they did price matching and claimed to know nothing about it. Sorry, but that’s part of the Office Mgr’s job … to keep up on policies, especially customer service policies. I informed them I was canceling the PetCareRx.com order so I didn’t have to wait for shipping and would be in later that day with my website printouts to get the remaining 10 days of the written prescriptions. They honored the prices for all my invoices for the last 30 days as Corporate had promised.
If you decide to use a Banfield Office, make sure you check medication prices and know that they price match even if the staff says they don’t. If you need to call Banfield Corporate the number is 800-838-6738 and let the operator know you need to talk to someone about the service you received at a Banfield Office. The operator will get you to the correct department.
