Banfield Pet Hospital Reviews

Bad product
I am a customer of Banfield. They prescribed First Shield Trio (flea, tick, mosquitoes). My poor little dog is suffering. I have had dogs for many, many years, taken good care of them, and ALWAYS took them for their shots and exams, teeth cleaning and in general, all their health needs were up to day, so I DO know something. I don't want to be "questioned" on how to apply a flea and tick medicine!! This product is the worst I have ever seen! My pup has more fleas now than ever!! I gave it a chance by performing the second application the next month, and wow, more fleas, I even found a tick on the poor dog. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!! IT WON'T WORK, AND DON'T LET ANYONE TELL YOU DIFFERENT!!! DON'T LET THEM CONVINCE YOU THAT IS JUST THE WAY FOLKS ARE APPLYING IT OR USING IT (BATHING FOR EXAMPLE). I AM GOING TO CALL BANFIELD, AND IF I HAVE ONE MORE MISTAKE MADE BY THESE PEOPLE, I AM QUITTING THEM ENTIRELY! ( I DO BELIVE I GOT AN EXPERIENCED VET ONCE, AND I DID NOT LIKE HIM!!) AGAIN, DON'T BUY IT, AND I WANT MY MONEY BACK, THIS STUFF IS EXPENSIVE!! WHERE DO THEY GET THE NERVE TO KEEP SELLING IT!!!

They killed my 6year old maltese
They killed my 6year old maltese doing a Dental Surgery, I trusted them they never even tried to get her better, they kept telling me she would get better, during this crucell time when something heroic should have been done, but they let a little thing like money stand in the way, They did did something to her during her denta. She has had her teeth cleaned before, and was fine. But they did something to her, and would not try to make it better. I only went there, because this was a low cost dental, and it cost me my beloved pet. I have been telling every one my story and to "Boycott" "Banfield" from Mich., Oregon, Calif. and Az. I hope they close down.

They killed my pet
Banfield Hospital at mckellip's and Power Road in Mesa Killed my 6year old maltese due to dental Surgery, She suffered so! they kept telling me she would get better for 2 week's when this was a cruceall time and something should have been done they were totall neglectfull, I will never get over this i am a broken persom because of this and part of my heart is burried with my little Bellabambina. She suffered for the whole month of June 20010. Nothing can be done now, because she died in my arm's. But I am telling every one to boycott Banfield hospital, they let a little thing like money stand in the way of getting her better, I used every avaiable credit I had to try to get her better . One Doctor even told me she wasn;t in pain, and she certainley was. Even when they hydrated her they did it in a hurried way, putting a sack of water under her skin. I think they ruputered someting with that trac tube and poison set in. Yhey werwe so neglectlefull. I hater them for what they did to my beloved pet, I know there are some missspelled word's but I don't care right now. I only care abnout my Dead Pet.

Bad service
Took my sweet, friendly Boxer there for an ear infection. When I told the Vet what I thought, he stood about 3 feet away and had me hold up the dog's ears so he could have a look and diagnosed that one ear seemed to have some puss in it. How's that for a detailed look? Oh, and that was after I muzzled her at their request.. I could have posted a picture on the internet and gotten free advice for that matter.

Then I asked about spaying and was told that the dog was too big for their Vets and they'd refer me to another location. So, these Vets only graduated from the "small breed" Vet school? Yeah, a 54lb dog is quite a monster! So then they suckered me into ear medication, cleaner and eye drops for her red eyes which put the bill into the $220 range. (I know, my own da*m fault for being so gullible). They handed me the bag of goodies and told me the receipt was the folded piece of paper in the bag which when I got home discovered that to be instructions on ear cleaning . . . so back to the office to get a bill. Hmmm . . . at their prices, they have plenty to hide so I wonder how often that happens.

Needless to say, I'll find a real Vet next time.

Avoid At All "Costs"
I found a coupon online on PetSmart’s website for a free checkup and exam at a Banfield Pet Hospital so I thought I'd give them a try with one of my three cats, a less than two year old female who was almost due for her annual exam. My wife made the appointment and while doing so made mention of the coupon we wanted to use to the employee that she spoke with. I arrived for the appointment and showed the coupon to the veterinary assistant before she took down the initial information about my cat. Now I will be honest here as I was with the veterinary assistant; my cat is very docile at home but she is rather psycho with others - hissing, scratching and biting is common. I was assured by the technician that they could handle her without a problem and could even trim her nails, for a fee of course, while she was in for the exam. I agreed to the nail trimming however I was then told there would also be a $16.95 “additional restraint fee” (???). O.K., so I agreed to pay the fee (although it seems a bit ridiculous) as I didn't really expect to get out the door for free and I really wanted to get her the checkup and the nail trimming. The technician then strongly suggested I do a round of vaccinations that this cat isn't due for on one until late August, and on the other in September, so I declined. She was a little pushy about it but I politely declined and advised her that I’d want to check with my wife first and would return at another time to do so. The technician then picked up my cat’s carrier and takes her into a back room and as the door closes behind her I realized that this facility treats animals out of sight and away from the owners view. I don't know why this is as I have made over a dozen and a half trips to different veterinarians with various pets throughout the years and have never once seen this. While waiting for my cat I was feeling a bit pressured with regard to the vaccinations so between that and the mystery treatment scenario I had just about made up my mind that this first visit was also going to be my last. Just a few minutes after she left the technician left the room only to return to suggest the vaccines again saying that they had just started trying to get my cat out of the carrier and that based on her temperament it would be easier on everyone to get them done all at once. I declined, again, only to have the technician leave the room and return to suggest them again. I declined for the last time and then while I sat in the waiting room and they had apparently gotten her out of the carrier, I could hear someone, I assume the veterinarian, struggling with my kitty and sounding very frustrated and impatient. I overheard this person say "this is ridiculous, and he's not even doing the vaccinations", and after about a minute of hearing them struggle with my cat this person exclaimed "I'm done". The technician then returned to the waiting room a few minutes later with my cat to tell me that they weren't able to do anything, not the examination, not the nail trimming, nothing. I said O.K. and asked what they suggest I do. The technician stated that the veterinarian was writing up an estimate for me to have her come back and be sedated to be examined and to perform the nail trimming. At this point, after they have given up the technician informed me that the coupon I had was not valid as they are not “part of the chain” and that I’d be expected to pay $56.90 for the visit; $39.95 for the exam and $16.95 for the “additional restraint fee.” I told the technician I disagreed and that I’d like to see this mystery veterinarian. As aggravated as I was I kept my cool and heard the veterinarian out on how she proposed to treat my cat should we return. The explanation came down to $425 worth of services which is absolutely ludicrous, even for an aggressive cat such as mine. I knew this was not happening so I asked what the cost for today’s visit was and was told the same amount. I questioned why this was and was told it was because the coupon could not be accepted and that she had already contacted the owner and confirmed this. I stood my ground and just flat out said I was unwilling to pay for a free exam that they didn’t even perform. The veterinarian left the room and came back with a story about how she’d instead charge me just a $19.95 “service charge” for the visit and explain it to the owner later. Let’s just say my best recommendation to anyone reading this who was considering visiting this or any other Banfield Pet Hospital would be to rethink that and steer clear of this place. While my experience may be limited to this location, something tells me based on the sense I got from this place that they are to veterinary care what McDonalds is to gourmet food. Find yourself a good local veterinarian who loves pets and isn’t only concerned with making money.

Excessive charges & office visits
My 14 yr old, female dog has become incontinent, leaking when she sleeps. It's a problem of old age...even in humans. I could see testing to rule outinfection but I instinctively knew that it was old age. After being required to pay for a second office visit and second urine test and 300 dollars later, Banfield came to the same conclusion, old age and lack of control. Prescibed med that has helped but to get refill I am required to pay for another office visit and exam...this is crazy, she's an old dog losing control, give me the meds that help before all of my carpet is ruined!

Banfield, Rancho Cucamonge but most general policy at all, just out to collect as much as possible...no reasonable service or caring for pet or human owners.

Sick DVM owner and management
I worked in THE most abusive, racist, and dishonest Banfield there is...well actually there is probably more. I had to leave finally about 3 months ago after the DVM's repeatedly using the racist "N" word (referring to our clients) while our office manager (who also happens to be the head DVM's sister in law) would constantly steal money from the drawer and merchandise from PetSmart. In spite of all of this being brought to the head DVM's attention, no disciplinary actions were taken. To top THAT off, the Banfield Charity box kept at the front desk for donations for homeless animals CONSTANTLY had money placed inside but clients wishing to donate to a good cause...little did they know that the head DVM was taking the money for himself and pocketing it. Does anyone have any ideas for me as to how to report this doctor/facility while staying anonymous?

Poor Service/Wellness Plan
I took my 4 week old puppy to Banfield, for her her puppy shots, and the showed me their brochure which convince me that I would be saving money on all the puppy shots. Shortly after the puppy contacted mange, and I took her to Banfield, and they gave her medication which they said is a discount price because of the plan( 55.00 ). That first treatment did not work, I had to take her back to them a second, third and fourth time, this is a chihuahua poor thing was scratching so much and so hard, imagine a 3.5 pound puppy. Each time I went there I had to shell out a exorbitant amount of money, for medication. Think about this not only did I have to pay money each time with the plan mind you, but me and my daughter and the puppy had t wait in the foul, funky smelling exam rooms for 3.5 hours, with one tech sticking her head in about every 20-30 minutes. We waited and waited, and here the punch line we don't do parvo shots after 6pm, this issue happen twice, but they did not hesitate to say that she needed more medication at a cost of course. Finally I got sick and tired of this poor little dog having this horrible itching going on that I took her to another vet, that was 3 weeks ago, first of all the shots were much cheaper $6.00 bucks and the medication was 7.95, I even got my other dog her rabies shot now here is the clincher all that plus office visit included for 30.00 bucks now is that cool or what. That was 3 weeks ago today she has hair and she has stopped scratching. I called the corporate offices to make a complaint and they connected me with client services, who acted liked they really cared they gave me a whole bunch of bullsh--it lines, and then closed my case with out me being notified. Please don't take your pet to Banfield Pet Hospital, they will only get sicker. Today I want all my money back cause the dog was ill at the time that I took her to see another vet. Banfield Richmond Sucks!!!

Lack of care
Nov of 2009 the FDA put out an alert about Vetsulin and the varying amounts of the crystalline Zinc insulin. However, my vet never told me about it and the possible side effects.

In May 2010 I went in to pick up a vial of insulin. i was told that they were out and on back order. I asked if they can call their other locations to see if they had any in. After calling 5 locations there was one nearby that had 1 vial left. This was alarming news and asked the nurse if the vet would be willing to script out in case of a situation like this occurs again. She comes back into the room and says No he will not script it out. Now a month later he is scripting it out b/c they no longer have Vetsulin at any of their locations. They put my dog on Humunlin N and said to keep the same dosage. They never told me about the need to switch syringes now for the past 3 days my dog is getting who knows what kind of dosage. I am so furious at their lack of care.

Scam
Going to Banfield is like buying a car. They start at a crazy amount to see if you will pay the price to get your pet well... then they go back and forth to talk to the the vet. to bring the price down to what you will pay ! Good luck if you go here, I have read nothing but complaints on this place nothing good and all saying the same thing, Money scam. I suggest unless you are looking to catch up on your car buying skills don't go to Banfield. Seek out a good vet. Not a chain of Commission based non caring individuals.
