Insurance Scam BOA Fraud
Bank of America (BOA) Insurance Scam. I found out in 11/2007 that BOA was debiting $20 a month from my account. I was surprised to find out they had been debiting it for over 2 years. I called BOA to get the number to the creditor and they told me it was Smart Step and gave me their number. I called and told them I did not order anything from them and had not received and accidental life policy. At that point I thought this really is a scam and told the person at BOA insurance to send me my policy. I also told him to stop debiting from my account. I did not receive anything in the mail and this came to my attention again in March 08. I lost my job and again called and requested them to stop and they did not. I called my bank and they said that I had to handle it myself and they would not refund the money they scammed from me. A year or so later I talked to a branch manager who told me that Smart Step is actually a BOA company and to file a fraudulent claim and I did. Long story short BOA and BOA insurance would not refund my more than $500 they took out of my account and BOA would not refund the hundreds in overdraft fees directly linked to this. Now I do not have a bank account and my credit has been affected by this. I am going to continue to fight BOA and BOA insurance and file complaints with the banking commission in NC (the corporate headquarters of BOA) and with the Better Business Bureau. Maybe if enough people come forward we can stop BOA.

customer service
After BOA's on line banking site did not accept my log in information it locked up. I went to on line chat to reset. They asked for information that I was seeking on line which of course I couldn't get. I had my account number, my debit card number with the three digit number on the back and other information such as the details of the two accounts I closed with them on the third because bank errors that cost me around $52. When the account locked it provided a number to call which was unavailable until the next day. After half an hour with one person I was given the same number. I asked for a supervisor and after another half hour answering the same questions I previously answered I was given the same number. Three times I was asked for the branch and provided it. It doesn't match their records? They stall, go over the same info time and again trying to wear you down then pass you on to the same unavailable phone number I got when I was locked out and which began the process. Rather than call the number I will go to the branch that doesn't match their records and cut my last ties with BOA. It will be a good morning.

"Online Banking Fee"
I noticed an "Online Banking Fee" of 9.95 on my monthly statement. In May of 2008, I personally went to my bank branch and spoke to a teller. She said she would have it removed immediately and cancel whatever service it was - she didn't know what it might be from the label. I supposedly had a free account, as I had direct deposit paychecks every month.
Unsurprisingly, nothing changed. Due to some life upheaval I did not notice that the fees were still occuring every month. Finally, I wrote a letter in 6/2010 explaning the problem. I asked for 2 years of refund, since no one had been able to tell me what the fee was for. No answer. Huh. Amazing. I tried calling in several times but could never get through to an actual person in under 10 minutes.
Finally I used getahuman.com to figure out a direct number on 11/12/2010. The "Online Banking Fee" was for access to my bank records by MS Money. The representative could tell I hadn't used this service since 2007. She cancelled the service but was unable to issue a refund. I was tranferred to "the checking line" which was actually just the main automated banking number. First I was hung up on (ever heard a digital soundtrack get stuck on one tone? Painful.). Then I was unable to reach a human again in under 10 minutes.
I was originally going to stay at BOA until I got a refund for this issue, thinking it would be painful to move my automated payments to a new bank. But in September I learned it was pretty freaking easy - BOA allowed my bank information to be compromised and I received a new (unwanted) debit card number. It was much easier to switch in the new number than I thought. I'm almost out of checks. It's time to go. Too bad, BOA. Another customer slips away. I'd rather deal with a bank with actual humans working at it and drive a little further for an ATM.

Credit Card Issues
Bank of America kept sending me credit card checks with a low interest period. I have 2 credit card with them & they have changed the numbers on both accounts 3 times over the past 2 years. It's been very confusing to keep the numbers straight. On one account I paid the balance every month & they kept sending cash advance checks. In 2009 I only had 6 weeks of work so in Feb. 2010 I used a credit card check so I could pay bills. They charged 4%, $720.00. cash advance fee up front. When the low-interest period was up (Sept., 2010), they raised the rate to 19.23%. I have excellent credit and have always paid my bills so I called to question the 19.23%. After that call, they took all the outstanding balance of credit on both credit cards away (which increased my debt to credit available ratio) and they would not lower the rate. I kept getting credit card checks every month with a big, bold 9.9% rate once the low-interest period was over. When I called about that, they said it was on my other credit card. They were confusing with all the credit card number changes, the monthly checks with 9.9% rate after offer period was up, and absolutely inflexible with the rate even though my credit is still excellent. Is there anything I can do? They get stimulous money, unprecedented low interest on their loans and they try to confuse consumers & then charge 19.23% interest!

Creates economic failure
Give the banks more money, buy more insuance, buy less insurance banks need bailed out. don't you get it? banks only abuse you because you give them your rainy day funds. when you take out a morgage you are borrowing your own money. insurance premiums are the banks capital. the interest provides the banks with an income. you have a 20-30 year morgage because that is how long it takes the bank to collect it from you. the only thing banks are afraid of is an insurance boycott. what are you more afraid of? being without insuance or money?

Mortgage payment
I refinanced with Bank of America on 10/25. Old loan was paid off. New loan payment starts 12/1. No payment was due 11/1. I went online to my BOA account and removed my automatic payment info. I followed up with a phone call to BOA to ensure that I'd done what I needed to do to stop the automatic 11/1 payment. BOA assured me I had -- even said they'd track it to ensure it wasn't taken out of my checking account. On 11/1 it was: almost $2500. I've been calling them ever since. Every day it's a different story -- check's in the mail...this will be electronically restored to your checking account within 3-5 business days...today was told it would be 14 calendar days from the day they "discovered" the error...!!! No one there cares about the customer. Stay away from doing business with this bank!!!

Mortgage/credit
This lending company is ruthless. We were having some financial troubles a while back and tried to get help from them. In return we got treated terribly. In a nut shell - My husbands hours were reduced and we started to fall behind on our bills. We turned to Bank of America for help. We tried to get a home modification loan and that was awful. They drug it out for months. I called ususally on a weekly basis, faxed them everything they needed (3 times) and stayed on top of things. We fell more and more behind, because it took about 3 months for them to do anything. Then they said we qualified for the forebearance program and were given 6 months with just paying 1/2 our payment. We were never told or given documentation that after the 6 months we would owe the the lump some of the other 1/2 payments. What good was that!!
We then owed over $3, 000, which they wanted right then and called us at work and at home and with mailings. They again threatened to take our house. We borrowed the money from relatives and were able to keep our house.

Fradulant Charges
- Bank of America makes nearly 40% of their annual profits from fees, charges, etc. to their "valued customers", and will soon be charging around $9 to speak to a teller at any branch. -As stated on CNN in October, 2010-
I have had my share of horrible experiences with them, and actually just finished up with the latest claim on my wife's B of A account.
Months ago in May, a company called "Passport to Fun" charged her account without her realizing it until a couple of weeks ago when she noticed a second charge from the company and decided too look back. We filed a claim at the local BofA branch (HELL of a process) and they said the claim would be processed and the charges reversed within 7-10 business days.
Come to find out as I investigated today, they reversed all but ONE charge which was an "extended negative balance charge"- keep in mind they just closed out her account due to the neg. balance AFTER making the claim. She only had the negative balance due to the unauthorized transactions that took place, and BANK OF AMERICA'S ADVERTISED POLICY is that YOU, the account holder, are NOT responsible for ANY UNAUTHORIZED TRANSACTIONS on your account.
After my many phone calls to several different departments of BofA, (the run around) I found out that the company that charged her out of the blue (Passport to Fun) IS AFFILIATED WITH BANK OF AMERICA! The BofA rep actually told me that, (probably without knowing my suspision). Included in this piece of information I found out from the rep that Bank of America never actually filed a claim on my wife's behalf, they just spoke directly with Passport to Fun and had the charges reversed. It was no problem due to their "buddy buddy" relationship. However, they still closed out my wife's account due to being in the negative from these unautharized charges from their affiliate. Looks like I spoke to the right rep at the right time, because in my past experiences, the customer service reps could care less about you're issue, don't know anything (or chose not to tell you if they do), give you the run around, and in the end, you're right back where you started.
I will leave you with this final statement/personal opinion.
Bank of AMERICA puts shame to our name. AMERICA: Land of the free, home of the brave, and everything in between.

Fraudulent issuance of ATM from my Account
December 2009 I noticed an attempt to access my online account and being out of the country I called Bank of America and instructed the Bank to block my online account, cancel all cards including the one I had and to issue no card till i appeared in person. In june 2010 the Bank in patnership with someone I do not know issued a debit card on my account and used it to take $34, 000 from my account.I just got back to America and they claim they cannot refund my money as I made no report within 60days.Whereas I left them a sealing instruction on the account only for them to find their way in, issue a card to an unidentified person to steal my money.
Bank of America is a fraudulent Bank and have no regard or respect for Customers. It is in no way a safe place to keep your money. The Bank in lousy.
