charging interest indefinitely after paying balance in full
A short summary of the complaint follows:
Bank Of America has given me a credit card with a $1.50 per month minimum interest rate. It is supposed to apply when I haven't paid my previous balance in full and the remaining interest on unpaid balances is below $1.50. Several months ago I paid my balance in full but I continue to be charged this $1.5o each month. It took me 10 customer service agents and more than 3 weeks of back and forth with BofA to understand their scheme. Here is a simplified version of what is going on: on January 31, I get a statement for $2000. I pay it in full a few days later but not until I have charged a purchase for $30 on the same credit card. So, here is what the bank does: when they receive the $2000, they allocate it first to the new purchases and then, to the balance from the previous month. This leaves me with a previous-month balance of $30. Now, this $30, being larger than $0, causes a new interest charge the next month of a few cents, however, since it is less than $1.50, the bank charges me again the full $1.50. This way, I can continue to pay my previous balance in full each time and, as long as I charge anything to the card in the new month, I can continue to be charged the $1.50 indefinitely.
Isn't BofA required to pay off my previous monthly balance when it gets my check, before paying off purchases made in the current month?
Note that, as long as I keep charging new purchases to this account, I can never practically pay off the balance unless I send in a check for the previous month's balance + the current month's purchases + the interest generated since the previous month's close.
Note that it took 3 weeks and 10 customer agents to explain to me what happened. I have a PhD and I am very patient. Most other customers in this situation would not have questioned the fee or would have given up after the first 2-3 attempts on the part of customer service to give them misleading answers (and I got several such answers, including a reply confirming that I had indeed paid my balance in full). It is clearly a stalling technique on part of BofA trying to obfuscate the situation.
I hereby allege that BofA has not properly disclosed the rules for charging this interest, that it has found a way to squeeze out millions of dollars from their unaware customers, and that it has a policy to obfuscate the solution to the problem in order to accumulate further gains.

makati philippines office
Since when does the doorman decide who gets service and who does not. The doorman at this BoA office should be fired immediatley. He would not let me talk to a bank manager because I was an American. Being a foreigner in another country, I did not want to be thought of as causing a problem so I did not make a big deal about it. I thought I was a valued BOA customer and could recieve service at any branch, I guess not. Today I'm calling up there to get things straightened out and hopefully get that doorman put out on the street for good.

Longer "Hold" on cashier's checks
4 Cashier's checks from Citibank amounting to a total of $ 36, 500.00 were sent to BoA for deposit into my checking account. Even though Citibank cleared these checks on May 18, 2009, BoA refused to make the funds available to me me until May 22, 2009. by placing a 'HOLD' on the amount for 4 additional days. This 'HOLD' placed by BoA illegally resulted in a check returned 'NSF' and a fee of $ 35.00 being charged to my account.

Scam overdraft fees
Same as all the rest here, this 'Bank' has apparantly resorted to theft to fix their economic woes. BofA hit me 6 times for almost $200.00 in fees in 2 days. I saw there were a couple small charges pending (NOT POSTED) the evening prior, so I online transferred $ to more than cover them. Got hit with (2) $25.00 fees on the next day anyway. Those 2 fees pulled my account down so 2 more went NSF. They then charged me $35.00 each for those 2. Total of $140.00 overnight. I called the 1-800 number and plead my case - got $60.00 refunded. I was still pissed, but at least I got some $ back. This gets better, though. Knowing that I had 2 new charges on the way, I immediately went to the local branch and deposited cash in that account and added more cash still to the account that covers overdrafts. The teller saw two more charges coming, and said nothing. Logged on today to find 2 more $35.00 charges for those 2. AND THE MONEY WAS THERE! They said 'those charges were from the day before, and the money you deposited wasn't there then, even though it didn't post until today'. WHAT?!! I called 1-800 and lost it - got nowhere. I called back and tried with another rep - got nowhere again. Tried a third time, and viola, got my $70.00 back. Folks, just keep calling them until you get success. Also, call the business number for customer assistance, there is no cue line to wait in, and the business account reps will help you with your personal accounts if you have a business account. This is a total scam - We have absolutely no proof as to when a charge is going to be posted to our accounts from a check card. The bank is in total control as to when these hit, and and they 'claim' that they have no control over when the vendors submit the charges. When they see a situation where their pulling money to cover NSF fees will result in a chain reaction of NSF's and more fees, they do it. This is a recent thing - I used to transfer money online to cover these issues, and was never charged NSF's before as long as I transferred money to cover them while they showed PENDING. I see the reports just like mine coming from everywhere, and it looks ripe for a class-action lawsuit to me. Better yet, spread the word that BofA will steal your money to every friend and relative you have, close your accounts and move your money to a local bank that does not take government bailout money. And call Clark Howard! I just did, maybe if enough people call him, he'll air their dirty laundry NATIONWIDE. They deserve it.

Charging fees to non customers to cash their own checks
Wow! What an ordeal!!!I have to warn 'everyone' out there about this Bank of America. I've heard a lot of bad things about them but now I actually experienced how criminal they really are with people. I received a local check through the mail that was from a small job I did and figured I would walk into Bank of America to cash it because I wanted the cash and it was a small amount of money and drawn on 'their bank'. So they wanted 2 forms of ID which is normal...along with my finger-print. I gave them my driver's license and credit card which was a Wells Fargo Credit Card. They saw that I bank with them from the debit card I had also. The first thing I was told to do was to open a BofA account by the manager of the bank inwhich the bank teller called over. (I did not know that they were this desperate for customers), but now I know why. After...and only after I did everything they requested, they said that I would have to be charged $5.00 for this check, which was $40.00. I could not believe this because they made me go through this whole thing and then said that because I'm not a customer (which I initially told them...which is why they wanted my ID, etc), they sprung this fee thing on me.

Poor treatment of credit card holders
When I was employed, I paid Bank of America on time and 3 to 4xs the minimum monthly payment. Now, that I'm on SSDI and making one-half the amount I did while employed, I have called several times to have my interest rate lowered. My interest rate started at 7.99%, increased to 13.99% and then to 19.99%. For what, because I paid on time and made more than the minimum payment. Also, because I'm in the lower middle income bracket, I'm being charged a $59 fee each year. I am still making my payments on time and giving more than the monthly minimum while on SSDI, and they will not lower my percentage rate. Because people do not pay on their credit cards, I'm paying for them. We, the American people, bail out these banks with our taxes, and when we need assistance, they will not even budge an inch to help.

Foreclosure next to our house burnt down 3 days before we went to settlement!
So three days before our buyers walk through and settlement, the Bank of America foreclosed house next door burns down! If they had taken care of this house e.g. mowed the lawn this would not have happened. If I lose this sale I am going to sue BOA! Yes, it would be preferable to have a vacant lot than an empty house, but it BOA going to clean up the mess ? If they couldn't mow the lawn I doubt it.

Overdraft fees
I am writing to empathize with all who have posted here before me about the ridiculous amount of money that BofA charges for overdraft fees and how they go about racking up fees to prey on those customers that sometimes 'forget'. We are are human and sometimes 'forgetting' just happens. I have never seen such abusive tactics by a bank in all of my adult life! My worst experience with overdraft fees was last summer when I had mistakenly gone over my limit on my balance with my debit card. Again . . . it was a mistake! I was unaware that i had overdrafted and had made a series of small purchases over a 5 day period before I caught my mistake. I had purchased about $180 during that 5 days in everyday purchases for things like a cup of coffee, lunch, small purchase at hardware store, gas, etc. All in all there were 27 transactions in that 5 day period. Well it was much to my shock when I checked my online account and had saw that I was charged $945 in overdraft fees for spending $180!!! I realize that we are all responsible for our own account balances but as I mentioned . . . it was a mistake!!! You can tell by my small purchases that it was not intentional!!! Why would I intentionally buy a $2.00 cup of coffee knowing that I would get slammed for $35 as an overdraft fee!?? I wouldn't . . . because it was a mistake!! I immediately went to my B of A branch and explained what had occurred. They gave me the typical canned answer that there was nothing that they could do about . . . and they were really sorry . . and that they truly value my business! What a load of crap!! Well I got stuck paying all of those fees and it felt like I was robbed by my own bank!! Tell me how that is just and reasonable!! I have since opened a new account with a different bank that doesn't allow your debit card to ever go into an overdraft status. They just simply decline you. How easy is that!!???? I'll take a 'decline' for a cup of coffee any day as opposed to an 'overdraft'!! What a bunch of crooks!!!

Poorest Customer Service
It is really surprising that Bank of America can survive the financial crisis with the type of customer service it has.
America needs to rebuild itself by purging itself of the poor employee quality and their indifference to customer needs.
I arrived in America in 2007/08 and happen to open a bank account with BOA and Citibank in the vicinity of 1414 Cambridge Massachusetts
I came here as a student therefore did not have any job. I had enough resources and was told to apply credits cards to build credit history (another irony as credit cards use would mean you have a problem with credit)
I was told that I could only open a secured credit card by depositing $1000 as I have no credit history in America.
I duly open the accounts by placing the deposit. This started my cycle of initially using the card and then paying late charges until the ultimate billing reached the credit limit. From where I came there was no need to monitor as everything was automatically deducted from bank account and was erasily setup. In America you have to make such arrangements and when I tried there were some limitation for Bank of America that stopped me from pursuing that approach.
In Apr 2011 I therefore decided to terminate my BOA credit card as it was creating bad credit history and I was simply accumulating late charges
I therefore assumed that was the end as the secured credit deposit will offset the outstanding payment. In Jun 2011 I kept getting calls from automatic phone calls that remind me that I was 2 months past due and have accumulated another 194 in late charges.
When I enquired, the bank customer service replied that my card was not secured and therefore there was no deposit. They kept maintaining that their system was the 'truth' and everybody else was wrong. Upon further checking and after alot of pestering they said that I was given the unsecured card based on an income declaration of $75, 000 and the fact that I was a student with Harvard. Both of this was a completely not true and appeared as an internal fraud.
They refuse outright to investigate the matter and deemed it unnecessary. They were not even able to tell me which branch the card was open at and said that I will need to show them a receipt to proof that I did make a deposit. They left me to check with the branch directly who duly told me that all records were sent to the secured credit department and therefore they could not provide any documentation as proof of opening the card and the conditions I signed to.
Throughout the customer service representative were very high-handed in dealing with me. They did not see a customer as an asset but a problem which they could quickly transfer to someone else and wash their hands off the case. They do not see it necessary to understand the customer but instead will just tell you in a matter of fact that there is nothing they can do and there is no one else in the entire bank that can assist. They claim that they are the most senior and then when asked about certain details, they said that that was a responsibility of another department for which they have no insight.
I have bank with many and never have seen a customer service so pathetic and poor in my whole life. I had to tell them on several occasion that we are the customer due to whom the bank exist. It appears this message does not seems to sink in and rather they see themselves a a mere digit in the large bank and therefore can get away with an indifferent attitude and were get away with the minimum of effort and service
I will never recommend Bank of America to anyone and really hope that the bank closes down and rebuild itself with a new and more productive team. This bank brings a bad name to this great country.
