Bank of America Reviews

Overdraft Scam
When I first applied to Bank of America for a credit card, I was denied because of a less than perfect credit, and, instead was offered a debit card or the way they put it: "a secured account!" This meant that it was backed-up with the moneys in the account! Well, at first, it worked so that, if a debit was presented by a business; the bank would pay the transaction IF THE MONEYS WERE IN THE ACCOUNT AT THE TIME; IF THE MONEYS WERE NOT AVAILABLE, THE BANK WOULD NOT HONOR THE DEBT AN WOULD SENT THE DEBT BACK TO THE MERCHANT UNPAID! CHARGE THE ACCOUNT WITH AN "INSUFFICIENT ACCOUNT" FEE AND THAT WOULD BE THE END OF IT. The customer would have a fee when he contacted the merchant. My point being that it was just "one" transaction!
The new "scam" came into effect when the bank "honors" (that's the new term!) all transactions that reach the account. and charges the account holder $35 per each one!
The Secret: Process all debits before it processes any CREDITS to the account!
Since the beginning of the year (approximately 3 months!) this "SCAM" has yielded Bank of America over ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS IN OVERDRAFT FEES TO MY ACCOUNT!
As a consequence from this I could not make my mortgage payment this month! And the bank refuses to return any and all fees it has taken from the funds in the account! Is there anything I can do to suit BofA for this less than Honest Standard! Please, if anyone has any advice on this new "scam" please write to me!

hugh increase in amount of monthly payment
My home loan was with Countrywide until the big
Bank of America take over. What a mistake that has been.
After a couple of months BOA deciced I didn't have enough
money in my escrow account so they increased my monthly payments $200 so I would have reserve in my escrow account. I asked if they were going to pay me interest on that money and they said no. I said then you don't need it. If Countrywide didn't do it how can you
just decided to do this. I have not been late on a payment and make payments every 2 weeks and its all automatic.
Why with so many families unable to pay their morgages
and Real estate values falling, why would a Bank be allowed to increase payments when an account is not even short and tell me well its in case your insurance or taxes increase in the future. Doesn't BOA already make enough money that they should have to pay customers interest on all escrow accounts. BOA has the rudest employees who are anything but helpful or concerned for their customers.

Got my hard earned money
Alright first of all I admit the overcharge was my fault. I currently have two bank accounts because of my temporary stay in Indiana. There are no bank branches located here for BOA. So as it sits, I didn't have any money in my BOA account as I'm not planning on using it again until I reached my final destination. I had comcast accidentally charge my BOA account which was my fault and have no problem paying one overdraft fee. Guess what they do? They charge me everyday I don't get the cash in to the account. I contacted them as soon as I realized my mistake and let them know I was having the cash transferred over but it would take 3 days to be approved. So being the generous understanding people they are they charge my account DAILY UNTIL THE CASH IS APPROVED AND TRANSFERRED. Well you bastards got my hard earned money, I hope you are happy, I'm closing my account after comcast finally receives their money. I've always heard you people were trash, now I know.

One the worst service experiences in my ifetime
In process of refinancing my mortgage I was told that I was qualify to do so and 3 days later when I called back to start the process I was not able to contact the original person that I talked to and I was told by another person that I was not qualify to refinance and that the person that talked to me "had no idea what she was talking about". I left massages and emailed the original person and never received a call back. I called back and asked to speak to a supervisor and left massages with him (Matt Ellis) he never called back either. When I called back to talk to someone else the person answering the Phone(Edward painter) after few attempts to get someone on line Hung Up on me. This is the kind of bank that destroys other banks reputation. This was one the worst service experiences in my ifetime.

I will never do business with this bank again
I have paid off two mortgages and have had several CDs with Bank of America, but that did not mean anything to the associates I spoke with. I was treated with disrespect and inflexibility. I will never do business with this bank again.

manipulating for NSF charges
I am glad I ran into this site because I thought it was just Me! I have been charged hundreds of dollars in NSF charges due to manipulating of deposits and debits by B of A to maximize NSF charges. The tactics they employed were criminal in my opinion. Tactic #1, over a three day period they would debit the largest charge first to put my account in the negative and then charge small debits as NSF when the larger debit actually occurred two days after the smaller debits. This allowed them to charge 4 or 5 $35.00 NSF charges that would NOT have overdrawn the account had they been kept in the actual order that they occurred! Tactic #2, When a check was mailed by the "Bill Pay" company(which they claimed was a seperate entity) they charged an NSF charge even though the check did NOT clear until two days later when there were sufficient funds to cover it. However, when a deposit was made by check from even the U.S. Treasury, they held the funds until the check cleared. C'mon B of A, You can't have it both ways. These tactics were changed when the government started to investigate preditory practices by banks. Note the dates of similar complaints on this website that stopped somewhere around Sept. of 2009. I really do not understand how people of good conscience actually defended these practices while knowing full well they were aiding and abetting B of A defrauding their customers. I guess it shows people will commit crimes for the pay check if the company is big enough.

Terrible Customer Service
Since reading all the complaints regarding Bank of America, I don't feel as bad about my problem. My issue isn't concerning account issues such as I have just read. But, I agree with others, DO NOT DEAL WITH BOA. I have never dealt with such an incompetent customer service. Last year they ran a NASCAR credit card promotion stating, "Take out a NASCAR credit card and open a checking account (with direct deposit), you will receive two tickets to a NASCAR race and upon your first purchase with the credit card, you will receive a $50 gift card for use at NASCAR.com." In August, 2009 I took out the credit card and opened a checking account. It is the end of February, 2010, and I am still fighting BOA about the rewards, which I never received. Someone never requested the race tickets for me (I did finally receive a few race points at NASCAR. com in lieu of the tickets). I have called approx. fifteen times and talked with 15 different people (a number of them supervisors), with each one giving me a different excuse to explain why my $50 gift card has never arrived - excuses from "someone made an error", "someone didn't turn the request to the right department", "the promotion has to be researched" to state only a few. Tomorrow, I will be removing my money from Bank of America and cancelling my credit cards. Therefore, I won't be able to use the race points that I did receive to purcahse anything from NASCAR.com - promotion says the race points will only be valid as long as the checking account is open. This sounds trivial in comparison to other complaints; but has taken up hours of my time on the phone trying to get this resolved and I will do everything possible to see that other people are informed about BOA's practices.

Escrow/Modification
Back in April 2009 BOA raised my mortgage by placing an Escrow on my account. They indicated that it was an Escrow for Flood Insurance and Regular Homeowners Insurance. Problem was...the home was NOT in a Flood Zone and this was proven when the loan began back in June 2005. It took 3 months for ME to resolve this as they made me jump through hoops with FEMA. I finally got their required documentation and yet they still are charging me from Jan. 2009 to July 2009 as July is when I got the FEMA paperwork stating I did NOT require flood insurance. Jan. 2009 to July 2009 BOA claims is justified. I say they are ripping me off.
The property is a property I DO NOT live in. I had it on the market from June 2007 to August 2009; then rented it. BOA states that for 4 months in 2008 I did not have regular homeowners insurance on it. They charged me forced insurance at a rate of almost $4500.00 per year. (THAT'S RIGHT $4500.00). They did all this in April 2009...very delayed charge I might add and I argued this. First it was for a mere 4 months that there was no coverage (my error) and second..how can BOA bill me a year later?
Customer service is the WORST I have EVER seen in any business. Many many many phone calls, can't reach the same person 2X, no one has the same information and bonus for me...I actually Pre-Qualified for a mortgage modification early Nov. 2009 (due to the additional Escrow non-won battle), submitted the proper paperwork end of Nov. 2009 only to finally get an answer in late Jan. 2010. They wouldn't give it to me...WHY?...Because some BOA stupid, incompetant employee CHANGED MY EXPENSE AMOUNT WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE..and now the home is in PRE-FORECLOSURE.
In a nutshell...BOA is going to end up taking my home for a lousy $5000.00 of which we are disputing.
10 letters sent out this week. A detailed letter regarding the entire ordeal, my situation, my plight, timeline of events/contacts, and of my written expenses (so they can't change the numbers themselves). 10 letters...hoping someone, somewhere will help us. 10 letters...The White House, The Fed. Reservere, The Atty General, CEO of BOA, President of BOA Home Loans, BOA Home Loans, etc...IS THERE ANY HOPE?????
What a shit show BOA is giving to their clients. I have banked with them since 1999 & have paid off 2 previous Mortgages...are they kidding????? I am good for it...but not when you make it out of my reach and NOT even care. DO NOT BANK WITH THEM...Pay attention...they are the single bank that is NOT DOING GOOD BY THEIR GOVERNMENT $$$$. I can't wait till I can give my business elsewhere. My husband and I are hard working, respectable citizens and this has not only potentially cost us a home, but tarnished our reputation along with our credit report/rating.
*****************DON'T BANK WITH BOA...KING OF RIP-OFFS***********************************

They are suppose be giving people credit, not taking it away
I went to pay for repairs on my truck last week. I went to use my BofA card, but my purchase was denied. BofA had dropped my line of credit and didn't tell me.

When I called them, they said that they were concerned about my line of credit. I have been with them since 1994 and never missed a payment. I make good money; not a snow balls chance I would default.

These are the guys who took our money for a bailout. They are suppose be giving people credit, not taking it away.
