Time of completion, customer service
On May 12, 2011 I placed an order (#2704728) for a rebuilt Ford engine with Barnette's Engines. At that time I was told that engine would be completed and shipped in 10-14 days. On May 25, 2011 I called Barnette's to inquire of the status of the engine. At this time I was informed that they were waiting on more parts and that it should ship no later than May 30, and that I would receive a call when it did. As of June 1 I had received no call, so I again called Barnette's. At this point I was informed that they had built the wrong engine, that they had to start over, that the engine would ship by June 3rd, that I would receive a call when it shipped, and that they had checked with Mr. Barnette himself about rectifying the matter and he had stated that he was not going to do anything. On June 7th I had received no call from Barnette's confirming the shipment so again I called them. I was told that it was supposed to have shipped the previous day (6/6/11) and that it would for sure go out that day (6/7/11) and again that I would receive a call confirming this. No call. I again called on June 8th and found out that it still had not shipped, at which time I informed them that I was taking the matter to the BBB. This immediately got the attention of Mr. Barnette himself, who got on the phone (this call was around 10:30 am) and stated that he would use his personal truck to transport the engine to the delivery company himself. At this point I again requested that he call me to confirm when he had done so and that he put some serious thought into how he was going to make the situation right. Late that afternoon I received a call from Mr. Barnette stating that the shipping company had just picked up the engine. When I enquired about his claim that he was personally going to deliver the engine to the carrier earlier that morning he simply evaded the question and stated that he had a tracking number for me. When I enquired about what he had decided to do to resolve the situation he again avoided my question by saying "...once the engine gets to you call me and we will work it out!". The engine arrived June10th, two full weeks (over twice the quoted delivery timeframe) late. I immediately called Mr. Barnette only to be informed that he was not there. I asked that they call him on his mobile phone and give him my phone number and have him call me immediately...to this day he has not!! During those two weeks Barnette's never contacted me to keep me informed of the situation, rather i did the calling. Barnette's knew that I was loosing income everyday that the engine was past the quoted delivery date, as I had scheduled work for the dates after I was to receive the engine and have it installed. To date the incompetence and lack of any degree of customer service Barnette's Engines has shown has cost me approximately $1200.

Warranty NOT honored by Barnette's
We purchased a remanufactured engine from Barnette's on July 7, 2010 for a 1989 Supra. With the purchase we also upgraded to Barnette's metal reinforced head gasket and stud kit since our old engine had blown a head gasket with the standard Toyota supplied parts. We wanted the best quality parts we could buy.
However in May 2011 the intake gasket provided by Barnette's with the remanufactured engine failed and when it was removed during service we saw that it was of inferior quality to the Toyota part. I called to submit a claim against the warranty and was told by Barnette's representative Steve that anything that bolts onto the engine (even though supplied by Barnette's) is not covered under the warranty. I asked him to direct me to that clause under warranty exceptions and he could not. He also stated that because we had proceeded with the repair without contacting Barnette's, we had violated the warranty.
At that point I concluded that Barnette's is not willing to honor their warranty. The claim is for 6 hours of labor (6 x $55 = $330) plus the cost of the better quality Toyota intake gasket parts ($50). Not a lot of money and we can afford to pay.
Note, this car is used for commuting only (not racing) and is carefully maintained by a seasoned mechanic at our local Toyota dealership. Failure of the Barnette's supplied intake gasket is a reflection of its quality only.
This complaint is submitted as a courtesy to other potential buyers from Barnette's. If the warranty is important to you, please factor this complaint into your purchasing decision.
Thanks, Ken

Engine rebuild ripoff
Engine had a bad valve on the driver side when it arrived from them. Then the head gasket on the left side failed after 100 miles. Their workmanship is poor and they don't honor their work, word, or the warranty. They don't want to talk after the sale. I do not recommend them.
