Nightmare after Christmas

I’ve been occupied with family matters and have not been able to post this. However, I believe its important for the public to be aware of the incredibly horrific service I received at Lowes Orangeburg NY in late December 2008.

My wife and I were remodeling our home and had contracted to have a master bath built upstairs. I approached the salesman at Lowes with the opportunity to populate the entire bathroom using Lowes as the vendor for all my needs. What a mistake! The experience was horrific. Orders were shipped incorrectly. Critical items were left out. Items that I didn’t order appeared. Billing was incorrect. What was perhaps most disturbing was the knowledge and attitude of the sales people. They tended to be ignorant of the item specs, not aware of manufacturer details and incapable of communicating among themselves. Here’s a case in point. One of the items was a toilet. It required several parts including a seat, and an external handle. What arrived was a valve that looked very strange. When I questioned the need for this valve the salesman defended his position…said this was necessary. As it turned out it was not (it was a valve for a plumbing fixture that had nothing to do with a toilet). When I asked about the other items that I ordered he said I never requested them! Frustrations like this were countless. Not to mention the people in the shipping area who contributed to the chaos.

More alarming was the attitude of the store manager. When one of the vendors shipped a part for our shower assembly that did not fit the spec, the store manager wanted to charge me for the reorder. I called the district manager and complained. The next day the store manager reversed his decision.

These are several examples from what turned out to be weeks of telephone calls, eight trips to the store…before all the correct items arrived and the billing was straightened out. I have a ream of receipts to prove my point.

Bottom line…I will never…”repeat”…never shop at any Lowes store again. I strongly urge you to do the same. Or beware.
