BB&T Bank Reviews

unavailable money, sales pressure
I recently set up a savings account and checking account at a BB&T Bank near where I live so I can have an ATM closer to my house. I got suspicious when I was there on Saturday the 21st (May 2011) and I was the only one there at the bank. I checked online and found a lot of complaints about the bank. I deposited money in both the checking and savings accounts on the 21st and it took more than a week for the money to be available in the savings account and the money isn't available yet in the checking account until June 2nd. Anyone have any advice on getting out of this situation? They keep calling and sending emails to get me to see a financial advisor, but I don't want to give them anymore information about me. I'm afraid they might ruin my credit rating and steal my money. Help!

Accepting Fake Signed Checks and Denying loans based on other clients money
Our daughter wanted to apply for a loan at BB&T in Russell Springs, Kentucky. On her way out the door to apply for the loan her 'Boyfriends' at the time" mother told her " You will not get the loan I took care of it". She went to the BB&T branch in Russell Springs, Kentucky with her grandfather and applied, she had an account in good standing. When she applied for the loan they told her "We do not give out house loans to those who do not live in the house already".

When she returned to her boyfriends' house the mother told her that she called BB&T in Russell Springs, and told them to deny her the loan. She would not tell her what all she said to them, but she did say BB&T assured her that our daughter would not get the loan.

This is a complete outrage. Our family has been with this bank and very loyal to this bank for years, and to have someone be able to call in and get our daughter denied simply because she wanted to is excusable.

Then for them to turn around and lie and say it was because she was not living in the house that she wished to buy is beyond belief...SO if you get a loan at BB&T in Russell Springs, Kentucky for a home purchase that you are not living in, you need to beware. They said quote:"We do not give out loans to buy a house when you are not living in the house."

On top of this already low business practice they have been accepting our daughter's husbands checks that his mother takes out of the mailbox and fraudulently signs his name to - sometimes she does not even sign a name and they still cash the checks! These checks are tuition money for his college and she takes 1/2 of every check and spends the money. BB&T allow her to do this, it is wrong they are helping her to steal and defraud the school by doing this.

We will never bank with BB&T in Russell Springs, Kentucky again. We are trying to speak the truth about what has happened to our family so you can make an informed choice as to where you bank. We live in a small town and for the bank to do something like this is just appalling!

Overdraft fees & Rude Customer Service Reps.
I have a checking account with bb&t, even though there is no local branch. I opened the account, because my employer had planned on transfering me to louisville. The Customer Service was nice and professional at first. I ended up having two things, come through as payments. Which drew my account over, I called the call center, to see if they could maybe work with me or remove the fees or take off a fee. The Rep said, he would have to put it into the system and see if it would take them off. He stated the system said the fees wouldn't come off and if I can't handle an account. I shouldn't have one, so I asked for a supervisor the rep laughed and said its not up to the Supervisor. So I decided to call the local main office for Kentucky, which is in Louisville. Spoke with a young gentlemen, and advised what happened, and what was said by the call center rep. He stated, that was true and that is how the fees are figured out. So he asked for my social and some persoanl identification. To verify it's me, then looked at my account, and said I am not making any money for the bank and not doing much business. So why should he take the fees off, and why help. When I am not helping them, so I asked for a supervisor. He said he could transfer, but would say the same thing. SO I can't get any one to work with me or help me. They just want money, and don't care about the customer.

Hold on my account
Where is my deposit? This is a constant recurring problem. It takes forever for a check deposit to show up with BBT! Everytime a deposit is made (even payroll checks) they put a hold on your deposit for 48-72 hours. Why? No one at the bank could tell me. When I sent an email to their customer service, I got the automated response saying that they will get back to me in 48-72 hours.

Okay... I'm taking that 48-72 hours to move my money elsewhere.

Overdraft Charges
My complaint is the same as the others, concerning overdraft fees. I'm out $900.00 in less than a months time. I'm concerned about what can be done to get our money back? I've talked with the local branch, I've called the Bank24 line, and I'm about to call the Corp. H.Q.(which I know will be a waste of time too). Has anyone had any luck getting all of their money returned? Does anyone know how to get this done? If so, could you, please email me with this knowledge? Is there a classaction suit in the process?

Overdraft Fees
Two complaints. A few months ago my acct was compromised. They stole my ATM card and checkbook. The people took checks from someones closed account and deposited them into my account at the teller window. The people took a deposit slip, deposited the check and got cash back from the tellers at two branches. Overdrew my account by $400.00. Now BB&T has declined my theft report and says that I am at fault because my checkbook was NOT SECURED. In my home in my pocketbook as always--not secured??? I guess there is no problem with the fact that someone gave cash back to somebody they had to know was not me. I have a senior acct and the thief was like 30 years old.

2. Overdrafts. BB&T is the absolute worst bunch of scammers I have ever seen. Here is how there last scam worked on my acct. I have about $100.00 in my acct. I deposit cash ($300.00) to my account on Friday at 10 a.m. It posts immediately (cash) and reflects in my balance. I go grocery shopping and use my debit card, then go make a few pmts. Monday am I start getting overdraft fees. It seems that my money is NOT in my acct until they post it on their system which took until Weds morning. This cash deposit took three business days to post and here I am collecting overdraft charges the whole time. I want to know how to complain also

Credit Card payment options
In reading all of the posts here regarding BB&T bank, I am glad I'm not alone in the troubles I have gone through with this terrible bank. For the same reasons many people have shared here, I have closed my checking and savings accounts with BB&T...but not my Credit Card! What a mistake, I'm finding now. I can't get away from their money-making schemes. I'll explain:

First things first, they call relentlessly if you're 5-days past due. No trouble, I can appreciate the reminder! I'd be much less likely to mention that part if it didn't make them out to be greedy pirates. I was just called 3 times in the last 6 hours! I also asked them not to call my work number, and low and behold that's where the first voicemail was left!

On the phone, the nice North Carolinian gentleman explained that I was overdue and asked if I could pay. No problem, I let him know I was at a computer and can pay online as I know it is free to do so. I'm paying a little more than is due at this time, he appreciated that and informed me there is a $2 fee for payment from a BB&T account, and $5 from a non-BB&T account (over the phone. Not necessary information at the time, but important later). After hanging up, going online, struggling to find a way to input my bank information for the payment, and finally calling customer service in frustration, I WAS TOLD BB&T NO LONGER ACCEPTS ONLINE PAYMENT FROM NON-BB&T ACCOUNTS. THUS, forcing me to pay the $5 fee over the phone. I asked "why", to which her response was "BB&T changed its policy regarding bill payments from outside accounts in April of this year". Thank you CS Rep, my feelings of confusion have been assuaged! Brings me back to when mom said: "because I'm your mother, that's why!".

Do I really have to be COMPLETELY done with you BB&T?! I thought you'd have changed by now! You just got 3.1 B from the government! You've almost made that much money on your patrons alone!

DEBT MY ACCOUNT
I checked my account online today and discovered a debt amount of $331.00 to BB&T telephone payment? I never called and gave anyone permission to take that money out of my account. When I called I was passed around and then finally got a lady named Renee from the Recovery Department and she told me that it was for an overdraft from the year 2002! Seven years ago!! I did't have an account with BB&T in 2002 I closed my account with them in 2000 which I even got a check for and opened a new account with another bank which to my bad luck BB&T bought in 2006. They have never tried to reach me and rude Renee said that they didn't have to that I signed a contract. Then she gave me another phone number to call which of course I got someones voice mail and won't be holding my breath for them to return my call. As far as I'm concerned THEY STOLE MY MONEY I called customer service again and that person told me that I would have to go to one of the branch offices which means taking time off from work because BB&T is not open past 5pm or on the weekends. I am shocked that they think they can steal the money that you have put in their bank, good thing I had enough in there or they would be getting more money for overdrafts fees that they caused. Once I get this taken care of I will close my account with BB&T again...now I know why I had a bad feeling about them the first time around.
