Unlawful overdraft charges
I have been banking with BB&T for several years, I have never written a "bad check", not have I been overdrawn until this year. Since March of 2008, I have been charged 13 overdraft fees at $35.00 each because BB&T has the RIDICULOUS practice of only crediting $100.00 per deposit(of a check, even if it's a payroll check!!!) They are stealing millions of dollars, charging fees on debits of as little as $1.00. This has to be stopped, please help! I will join a classaction suit if anyone knows of one.

Fraud and scam
I recently had a talk with a rep from this bank. I had over 150$ worth of overdrafts. I had her explain what happened and she really couldn't. seems that i had charges go through, now I only use my debit card. when your debit card has a charge, the account is supposed to lock this amount of money until the actual posting that evening. I had two charges on hold/pending they were small. Then I deposited some money before noon. I then made a transaction after 3pm. this transaction was for 300$.

Here is the end result. The deposit did not post to the account because it was a check. the 300$ payment i made at 3pm got posted and knocked the other two or three on hold off hold. so that they could be charged overdraft. Now my argument was two fold. one if the funds are on hold and not available, then how did the 300$ charge knock them off, and two if i made a deposit of any kind before 12, then it should post that night before midnight.

They took all the charges off my account. BUT since then, I think my account has been targeted to get it back. I have had over $500 in overdraft fees due to the way they post largest first in the past month.

SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THESE SCUMBAGS!!!

I can get timeline reports of the account if a lawyer would like to see them and start a suit.

Emails and phone calls led nowhere
I too had problems with this bank. I am shocked and appalled that any business let alone a bank would conduct business in such a negligent and dishonest manner. I had a small 401k IRA 90 day CD with Equitable Federal Bank before BB&T took them over. My account automatically transferred. I then moved out of state and wanted to rollover the IRA into another account. Getting information from their website was an exercise in frustration. It was always temporarily down, and then calling customer service was equally frustrating. I would get transferred to different people only to finally be hung up on. This happened on 3 different occasions. I finally got information on their procedure for a rollover and had my bank initiate it. It was sent with specific instructions to rollover the CD on the next maturity date. Well, they just went ahead and did the rollover without waiting and charged me an early withdrawal fee of $50. I was furious. Of course subsequent emails and phone calls led nowhere, so my only recourse is to warn the world to stay away from this bank.

Fees for paying loan ahead of time
I had a loan with BBT for about 3 years now and was told 3 years ago when I first got the loan that there were no penalties for prepayment. As soon as I got the loan down below $25, 000 I noticed a charge for $35. I called the bank and ask what this was about because they had told me they had no penalty for prepayment. They said it was a convenience fee. Convenient for them not for me. After telling them that I was assured there were no penalties for prepayment they insisted it wasn't a penalty. I was told I would be charged a convenience fee of $35 each month because I was now below $25, 000. MAKE ANY SENSE?

I depleted most of my savings account to pay off most of the loan and the remaining $7000 I paid with my credit card which I have a fixed 4.9 interest rate. Less than the interest BB&T had given me. My credit card company, Capital One, has been great. No hidden fees. I will be finished paying them off next month and have cancelled my account at BBT. Stay away from this bank. Very shady characters.

Bad customer service! Interest rip offs!
Following many calls to customer service, these people, just can't get it right, which means this practice is probably a part of their "corporate plan".

I have an auto loan that auto-deducts out of my checking account monthly, and I thought I'd like to make additional principal payments after my regular payment to finish the loan off early. I paid $75 additional, and when I got the monthly printed statement, these guys took $53.35 in interest and $21.65 on the principal. Needless to say I freaked out, and immediately called in to have it fixed.

I got many different stories, from customer service from..."you can't do that", to, the final answer " Oh, yea this we can easily correct". Well, here it is months later and still not fixed (they are still not putting the entire payment to principal), and I get the feeling they believe we are all ignorant, illiterate, and stupid that we'll never find this, let alone get perturbed enough to lodge this complaint.

I have had many loans and dealings with banks, but I've never seen anything quite as bad as these people, so if your considering BB&T, save yourself some aggravation, and avoid this bank.

Monday I will again start calling to have this situation rectified, and go through it all one more time.

rudeness by employees
I'M A FREQUENT CUSTOMER AT THIS BANK. THE COMPANY I WORK FOR ALSO HAS ITS ACCOUNT HERE. THEY PREFER WE USE THIS LOCATION. FOR THE PAST EIGHT YEARS I HAVE MADE SEVERAL TRIPS A WEEK TO THIS LOCATION. IT WAS ALWAYS A VERY FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE. THE LAST THREE WEEKS WHEN I GO THROUGH THE DRIVE-THRU THEIR ARE TWO LADIES ANGELA COLLINS AND TIFFANY. THEY ARE VERY RUDE. THEY IGNORE ME, THEY ARE TREATING ME LIKE I'M AN INCONVENIENCE. THEY FINISH CONVERSATIONS WITH EACH OTHER BEFORE OPENING THE DRAWER. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. AT FIRST I THOUGHT MAYBE THEY WERE HAVING A BAD DAY BUT I FEEL THAT THERE JUST RUDE. I HAD STARTED COMING IN BUT SOMETIMES IT'S NOT CONVENIENT. I HOPE THIS WILL NOT BE IGNORED, I'M REALLY CONSIDERING GOING SOMEWHERE ELSE. I'M ALWAYS FRIENDLY AND EXPECT TO BE TREATED THE SAME.

They will flat ruin you!
I have had access to my direct-deposited funds on the same day, but the online banking is a big problem. It is true that you cannot know your actual balance online, particularly if you use the debit card. It seems the balance only reflects a nominal portion or maybe a percentage of the actual amount debited and it won't post the full amount or where it went to until 2-3 days later. So those funds look online like they're available to you, but you'll get burned with fees later when you find out that the balance is entirely inaccurate.

I deposited a payroll check from a second job, as well as a state tax refund check on Wednesday morning and it wasn't credited until Thursday. And here's the fun part, which I'm battling with them on at the moment:

At my full-time job I have direct deposit, am always paid on Fridays, and I use their online bill pay set up to have all my bills come out on payday Fridays. I discovered this morning that they changed my payment date on all my currently due bills to THURSDAY. I didn't tell them to do that. They didn't send me an email to let me know anything about why I might need to check my payment dates and make changes. They just changed it. So, of course now I am hit with nasty overdraft fees because they paid my bills out of my account on Thursday but of course my payday didn't change, I still got paid on Friday.

This is theft, and I told them so.

I am done with BB&T. They will flat ruin you. They don't credit your deposits until after they pull your debits, so this is another way they get rich off of responsible, hardworking people who think that once they make their deposit that they should have access to their money (in this day and age, when they can make automatic deductions the second you write a check, there is no excuse for there not to be). It's just wrong.
