Won't take on--line payment
I bank with SunTrust...a great bank. I use online banking for all my bills. Since July 2010 I have been paying my landloard throught Suntrust online banking. They issue a check to my landlord who banks with BB&T. They now refues to take a check that my bank (Suntrust) mail to my landlord. They said because it said signature on file is the reason they won't take the check... This has cause problem with my landlord saying that I have not pay them on time...As I read on BB&T website they do the same thing when a company can't take a electri fund tranfer and has to wite a physical chenk for their customer. I am also filing a complain with the NC Banking agency. I hope this bank goes out of business. They will not listen to my bank that the check is a valid check. Thanks,

Check Fees/Charges
I recently stopped into my local BB&T here in Asheville to cash a paycheck. The only reason I went into this bank in teh first place was because the check I had was written on a BB&T account. This was an official BB&T check and they charged me $6 to cash it. I have never heard of such a thing! How can there be a charge from the bank on a check from that same bank? Bull Crap! I just hate them even more now.

Check cashing fee
I recently cashed a $400 check drawn from the same exact bank from which it was written. My wife has an account and signed below me and I was charged a fee for cashing it. This is only the second job I've had in all of 2010 and no one is bailing me out of debt, but of course BB&T got
BB&T 10/27/08 Profile $3, 133.6 that's $ 3, 133, 600, 000.00 and they steal $6.00 from me to cash a check.

Overdraft
i recently asked BB&T for overdraft protection, the bank rep. on the phone said all i needed to do was to come in and sign a piece of paper, so when arriving at the bank, i went inside and asked the banker about overdraft and how to add it to my account, well they sent me to one of the higher up bank rep.s who then went on about credit and ended up stating that i would need a co-signer. all i wanted was overdraft, nothing about credit or anything like that. so i went home and called the guy who had opened my account and asked him about it, he then went on about the credit thing. i then stated that i just want normal overdraft, like example:if im in dire need of money i could overdraft my account and then pay it back, if i dont have enough money in the bank. so he then went on and said he finally knew what i was talking about and stated that he added it to my account. well i waited until 2 days after he said it was added and i went and tried to overdraft my account due to a personal issue, well when i tried all the atm stated was "insufficient funds to proccess transaction". i mean if you cant overdraft your account, then why the heck even bother? i really need to overdraft my account to pay something i really need to get paid, but how can i when all i get is "insufficient funds" i mean to me, it sounds like BB&T wans people to think they can get it, and when you need it they wont let have it. i really think all this bank is, is just a bunch of scam artists stealing people's hard earned money.

Deposits as Debits
I am flat out furious after being declined with my debit card for the first time in my life. About two weeks ago I switched to BB&T due to them being the closest bank within driving distance. Everything has gone great so far. At least until now. Due to the bank change, my most recent paycheck was a live copy instead of direct deposit. While I have never done this before, I deposited it in an ATM this past Saturday. I knew full well it would probably not clear until Monday or at the latest Tuesday. That is not an issue, and I see nothing wrong with that. My account as of now should have over $600 in it. I stop by a 7-11 tonight in order to purchase a Slurpee, yes, just a Slurpee. I get declined. I try credit and get declined. I am humiliated. Again, I have never been faced with this before. I immediately log on and see my account now is showing a -$350 balance. I nearly fainted. I immediately researched the issue, and shockingly it appears my deposit is showing as ATM Deposit Hold - Debit. Excuse me?
That's right, my deposit was instead debited from my account, and I am now in the negative. Calling customer service did nothing because it was after midnight, and they do not get in until 6:00am. I have no issue with them holding a deposit from an ATM, but I see no reason whatsoever to debit it instead. My $600 that was there before I even put the deposit in is now gone.
After doing some research, it appears others have had this issue, and this, I gather, is how BB&T does business. After I get this straightened out first thing in the morning, I will be taking my business elsewhere - after only two weeks. There is no excuse or reason they can give me that I can even imagine would change my mind. It's a shame, too. The people at my branch were exceptionally friendly, even got a hand written letter thanking me for banking with them. Everything went just fine, and now this. They've lost a customer.

over draft fee
In 11/11/10 I made a atm withdrawal at 07:57 am for 20.00. I still have the receipt and I had 5.62 still in my account. Latter that day I made another withdrawal which did over draw my account. When I checked my account on Monday 11/15/10(the next business day after posting I saw I was charged to 35.00 over draft fees. I have called them and they just say they will not refund me the fee for the 20.00 withdrawal because they post biggest to smallest and that the charge is ligit. How can it be ligit when I have proof I was not overdrawn at the time of the 20.00 withdrawal. The person oin the phone was very rude and when I asked her if I could talk to someone else she told me their was no one else to talk to and that she was the only oerson to handle this. She even said managers could not do anything for me that only she could and that she wont because she did not see anything wrong. She said she has more power then the managers do! So basically BB&T stole 35.00 from me and no one will help.

safety deoposit box
I had a safety deposit box with Coastal Federal in early 2000. It was at no cost due to Money Market account I had. I maintained the account until now, thinking I had the box. The contents were such that I did not need to tamper with them. They were family heirlooms to be handed down and fragile. The bank was bought out by BB&T about 2006/07 and sometime during that time..my box was given to someone else. BB&T have no record I ever had a box, all I have as proof are the keys. They said they looked for my items, shook my hand and said they were sorry for my loss. If you have a safety deposit box, you may want to check on it.

Illegal Overdraft fees
They pulled money from the wrong account on on-line bill pay. The 2nd account only had $2.50 in it the other account had $1500. They billed us (TOOK OUR MONEY), $310 in overage fees and will not return it. They finally gave us $70 dollars and told us to take a hike. They were rude and the cause of this was because of this was related to the buy out of Colonial Banks.
DO NOT USE BB&T AS YOUR BANK UNLESS YOU READ all the info about the overdraft fees etc... You will find it appaling and remember that with us it was their error during the colonial switch over. We cannot afford a lawyer.
