Horrendous Customer Service
One would anticipate at least the branch manager to be an honest business man who does not withhold information from his/her "valued" customers. Upon signing up with BBVA Compass, I was promised a signing incentive which I had not received. Upon further investigation, I was told I no longer qualified and would not be delivered the promised incentives.
No free money. Fine. My primary complaint is how long they strung me along to keep my account open before finally telling me they would not be fulfilling the deal promised - months. Literally, months.
Aside from the issue that I cannot trust this bank, many other problems popped up. One day they would not let me cash my check (yes, MY bank would not let me cash MY check) insisting I could only deposit it to be held for 24 hrs before I could access it. Debit charges on gas, groceries... everything... take sometimes DAYS to post.
If I had any positive feedback, I would include it as well. Unfortunately, I have been given no reason to leave such feedback.
Closed my accounts and will never give them my business again.

fixed term (not rate???) loan
After spending 30 minutes on the phone opening the account and confirming numberous times that it was a fixed rate loan I opened it. Two months later I found out it was a variable rate loan! THEN I CALLED AND KEPT ASKING FOR A MANAGER BUT THEY DIDNT WANT TO TALK TO ME. WAITED DAYS FOR THE MANAGER TO CALL ME BACK AND GOT NOTHING. BBVA=masters in the art of deception!!! BBVA Compass is a bad bank!!! Stay away from them!

NSF Charges
PENDING CLASS ACTION SUIT FOR FRAUD - BBVA Compass Bank has developed a method to scam it's customers who use their online banking service. Here's how the scam works: Their online service shows a "available balance" which is not always a correct amount and even though you have a positive available balance and a check or debit is made which is less than the available balance, nsf fees can still be charged. The reason for this is that the initial charge is made when the available balance is in the positive and will show as a pending charge. However, when that charge is actually posted (up to 5 days later) is when the nsf fee can happen if your account is in the negative at the time it actually posts. During this period from the time the charge is made to the time it posts, your account may have gone into the negative due to other bank fees, etc and will result into a nsf fee even though you had the money available at the time the charge was made. Due to this, BBVA Compass is intentionally deceiving it's customers by making them think the funds are available even though they are not until it actually posts. In addition, this means that you have to make sure there is enough funds in your account at the time the charge is made and also when it posts or you may incur a nsf fee.

excessive NSF/overdrawn fees
Since I first open my accouunt at the compass bank on 09/2010, compass has continued to charge my account with excessive overdraft and other fees. This has not been the first time. By the time my payroll hits the bank for some reason the bank has charged my account with fees that only they know about. I had to call the bank twice to wave those charges in which the did but this become tiresome!!! On 01/02/11 was the last straw with that dame bank. I needed gas money to get back home from the new years holiday in which i live out of town, as I went to draw money from my savings account all my money was gone except for 7.34. I was mad!!! What happen to my money from my saving account!!! I had some into my checking accounting. Why would they take all my money from my savings. I went to call the bank but they were closed due to the holiday. This is ridiculous!!! Come Monday- I want my money back because they have no reason for taking it!! I will be closing the account.

NSF Charges
I check my account regurally online. It was a Wednesday afternoon I noticed that my account was short, so I got up Thursday morning and deposited enough money to cover what would have been in the negative. I was busy with doctor visits the rest of the day! Friday morning I checked my account and Compass had taken out three different $38 NSF charges. I called them and got the run around. I called back on Monday, again got the run around! Later that afternoon, I checked my account again and the bank had taken out another $38 NSF charge! I don't mind telling you I was upset! I called back, and was instructed to wait til Tuesday morning to call back! I called back Tues. morning and this time I went straight to the Branch Manager which informed me that there was nothing she could do! This is ridiculous, I don't think I should have gotten those charges, I made the deposit, but the bank took out the NSF charges before depositing my money!! Why is it they take out the NSF charges BEFORE depositing your deposit?

Online outage 5 Days Already
BBVA Compass have their online access down since Friday 1/15/10 supposedly for some upgrade. The message said it will be up by Monday 1/18/10. I tried Monday 1/18/10 to no avail. I tried again on Tuesday 1/19/10, still to no avail. I called the local branch, no explanations. There are federal laws that prohibit banks from closing 4 consecutive calendar days. I don't think it applies to online access. However, Compass seems to be abusing the lack of regulation on this. I am contemplating on closing down my account. Have to take care of outstanding checks written and then ADIOS. I don't have to be a victim of banks that think they're TOO BIG TO FAIL. If this is how they do business in Spain, it's not what I expect here.

Not keeping their end of contract
I opened a checking account with Guaranty Bank through a promotion where I would get $100 after 150 days, with terms and rules. I followed all the rules they had posted on the promotion page but now that BBVA Compass has taken over, they refuse to pay me the $100. I had planned to close my other account and move all my money there, but I sure won't now. I will not do busines with thieves. I will stick to credit unions because I have never had problems with them stealing my money.

FREEZING ACCOUNT
I had a business checking account with compass in 2008 and they overcharged my account numerous times with overdraft fees and I was not over drawn. When I went in and tried to pay them anyway just to get my business account in the clear they refused to open the account. I had a savings account with them and had continued to use the savings and in oct 2009 I went to open another checking account and let them know what had happened with the previous account and they opened my checking account and said it was fine. When I went to deposit some money a couple of weeks later I WAS TOLD THE ACCOUNT HAD BEEN FROZEN BECAUSE I OWED THEM MONEY. THEY KEPT MY DEPOSIT MADE TO OPEN ACCOUNT AND HAVE RUINED MY AVON BUSINESS. COMPASS BANK IS THE WORST.

NSF Fees
I deposited $1000 CASH at 12 noon. My bank told me the fees were available immediately. I went and used my card three times later that day. A week later I check my account and find they charged me three $38 NSF fees for those charges. Even though my statement shows the deposit that day. Then three days later, with still plenty of funds in the bank, they charged me another 4 $38 NSF fees. I asked them why I got the first three, and they said the charges took place the same day, but the deposit hadn't been recorded till after. Bull. They submit the deposit immediately and you get a computer printed deposit receipt back. Then for the four additional charges three days later, they explained, using terms I have never heard in my college educated life, that the first three fees three days prior caused the charges when additional charges went through after my deposit. Didn't make any sense, but they still didn't refund them. I deposited $1000, had five charges after I deposited it totaling $60 over three days and paid $266 dollars in NSF Fees. Nice way to stick it to your customer.

Excessive NSF fee
I made the mistake of not maintaining my checkbook register for a week. In that week I charged $366 using my VISA debit card. I do not dispute those charges, but I have a real hard time with the $805 dollars in NSF fees they charged me.
When I discovered my mistake I immediately drove to the bank and sat down with a bank rep to see what can be done, if I could get relief or something. She told me they could give me relief because A bank in Abilene TX had a charge off under my SSN. I've never had a bank account in Abilene, I spoke to my ex-wife and she said she had an account but I wasn't on it, not on the signature card or any other way.
During this week I deposited $513.77 in an attempt to keep my account in the green. Unfortunately because compass charges a $38.00 NSF fee I could not keep my account in the green.
Needless to say I am extremely mad. If I charged 2262% for lending money to a friend I'd be convicted of usury (this is the percentage of NSF fee charged to one debit).
I'm interested in joining a class action lawsuit against Compass for usury like practices. From what I've read NSF fees are not considered usury, but maybe excessive NSF fees can be tied into usury without actually filing for usury. If anything, all members of compass should know how ridiculous banks have gotten on their NSF fees.
I'm in the process of closing this account, I'll send all my money to my credit union (which offers overdraft protection without an NSF) or pay a 1% check cashing fee to cash my check at the money box and stop using banks at all.
Contact me, I'm sure I can draw up some more support, I have a customer database of 300+ individuals, who also know more people. If we can't get this corrected, the bad press might effect Compass' bottom line
