taking money
Two weeks ago we discovered fradulant charges from our checking account. I called the compass 1800 number to get the activity reported. The decision was made to shut the account down and open a new one. A hold was placed on the account with fradulant activity due to both the pending fradulant claimant as well as my direct deposit from my employees. I was assured thenly credits to the account would be allowed and there was no need to worry about any debits are not authorized to come out. However they failed to inform me that the remaining funds would be frozen as well. I had no access to any of my money. I could not even put gasin my car. I had to call the local branch and plead with them to release only enough money so i could put gas in mycar. The claim was investigated and the funds were returned to my account. Two days later, the bank allowed the same person to debit my account for the exact amount as the previous claim. The force paid this even though the account was frozen to prevent debits. I had tickle another claim yesterday and cannot close the account. Yesterday my direct deposit from my employees was not credited to my account. After five hours of calls I was able tiger them to place my paycheck into my new account. This morning at 8 am I had 3031.00 in my account. At 2:30 pm I discovered that my account was negative 187.00. My paycheck that took me so long to get credited to the new account was removed and the money cannotbe found in either one of my three accounts. I could not by.groceries or put gas in my car. Essentially my family and I cannot do anything for the memorial day weekend as we now have no money. I have been patient with this bank until today. Looks like I need to find another bank and start over.

Bait and switch
Loans at very reasonable rates boarding on questionably low rates are offered with no intention of being lent. It is my personal opinion that there is no money to be loaned out whatsoever. The loan applications are accepted with comments like: No problem with your great credit. Then the weeks go by while you wait. There is never a loan! In the meantime, you have made arrangements for all of your income to be automatically deposited, and all of your auto debits and charges. This is what they are waiting for... to make money on you. They should change their name to Compost. Compass brings visions of the world ... spinning for change. Compost brings visions of fermenting garbage! They promise to help while they bilk you. Go to a Credit Union!

Outrageous fees - poor customer service
I have a small business and unfortunately opened a checking and savings account with this bank. I had most of the money in the savings account and would transfer funds into checking as needed. I was supposed to have automatic notifications on both cell phone and email but never got any notifications. I received $608 in overdraft in 1 month and being the money grubbers BBVA is, they refused to return any of these fees. Mind you, I had plenty of money to cover my bills in my savings account and was counting on the automatic notifications to help me keep track - bad idea on my part. They are not the friend of the small business or anyone else I can think of. I would never recommend this bank to anyone! Stay away from them!

FROZEN ACCOUNT
I was a customer of Guaranty Bank for over a year when BBVA Compass took over, and I have been with BBVA for a year now, so I have had this account for a total of over two years now. Two weeks ago I decided that I would open a savings account because I was saving up for a large purchase and wanted to keep that money separate from my checking account. I opened the account online and the opening deposit was deducted from my checking account; I received all of the nice "welcome" emails and everything was hunkey dorey...not!!! Two days later, on payday, I go into the bank to make a transfer from my checking to my new savings and low and behold Houston we have a problem. Apparently, BBVA ran my information through EWA (a company that is gradually replacing Checksystems), and discovered that SIX years ago my name was placed in this database therefore I was a fraud risk to BBVA so they froze not only the new savings account but also my EXISTING checking account (of over two years), and they were in the process of closing both. How inconvenient for me that my payroll check (of over $4500) had just been electronically deposited that very day! This was a Friday afternoon and thank goodness I had decided to do some banking on my lunch hour or I would have been totally screwed all weekend. They completely cut off my access to MY money! I went through a huge hassel trying to withdrawal my paycheck while the teller and supervisor called several FRAUD departments, right there at the counter! I should mention that the line was long, there were only two other tellers open and the customers in line (angry and impatient at this point) could hear every word of what was going on. I was extremely embarassed and finally I asked to see the branch manager and demanded to be allowed to sit in his office where I could have some privacy and try to maintain at least a shred of dignity. Finally they agreed to allow me to withdrawal my pay but the remaining $500 or so is being held for 3 weeks so that they can earn interest on it before sending it back to me by mail. Please do not become a victim of this Nazi bank.

Hidden Fees
I have had numerous problems with BBVA Compass and today the nail was placed in the coffin. I have had a small savings account (x-mas account) for about a year and a half. I noticed that on 12/31/09, I had 2 service charges ($3 & $12), I placed a called and was told that they have changed their policy in October with savings and you are now required to have $500 minimum balance. Keep in mind the charges didn't hit my account until December. I said "excuse me" when I opened up the account I signed a contract and I was never notified of this change. I never keep much in this account b/c it just for left over x-mas gifts. If I was notified I would have immediately closed the account before October. Or if I would have received the charges in October I would have flagged the issue then and saved $ on the other charges for Nov & Dec. I said “I would like a credit of these charges and I would like to close my account. I was told they "can't" give me a credit b/c they added a sentence about it on the August statement *at the bottom about the change. Keep in mind I do all on-line banking and there was never a single notification. Not only did I not receive notification my account wasn’t deducted until December so I racked up more charges.

I am closing both of my account with them effective immediately! I have never had issues with a bank as much as this one. I am a firm believer they are not out for the customer just the bank!

Piece of crap
Eeded to purchase a plant. Greenouse did ot take VISA. Sent me to BBVA/Compass. Entered my information. ATM said, "do you really only want $0.01? Tried to change it. Again and again. ATM repeated. I went into Bank. They said, "sorry ATM ate your card." You are up S__t creek. A Thousand miles from home. No gas, no food, ATM ate Card, and they say, "ATM is not ours. Someone else services it." They would not give me name or phone number. In effect, it was "Eat s__t. We're too big to mess with you!"

Really made my trip to the southwest a piece of crap!

NSF FEES, account holds, deceipt
Compass charges overdraft charges on hold amounts authorized through your ACH card. If you go buy gas and they "hold"$100 on your account and the charge is $31.00; if the $100 "hold" overdarafts your account they will charge you $38 for each transaction. This in itself is a bit shady, but that is not the worst part: They report different information to the online banking system! If you are using the online banking to balance your check book (information they provide and you should be able to rely on) you are making financial decision based on inaccurate information. They have no explanation for this either! I went in to the branch to speak to David Thompson, Investment Banker. I asked him to please explain why I was being charged overdraft charges on my account when I have a positive balance. He refused ( I am not exhagerating), yes refused, to explain it to me. When I asked him to look at my online statements he told me that "his screen is different". When I asked why his information would be different that what is being provided to clients to rely on; his answer was "I don't know" and told me that he already reviewed the account and could not be of any assistance. His manager also refused to explain why I would be charged over draft charges on a positive balance and then asked me to leave the bank! He stated that I would need to contact customer service. Why should I have to call customer service in a different state to find out that they hold your money long before they process charges, post all debits before credits regardless of which came first and that they changed their rules in June of 2008!!! I am sick of crooks! This is a deceptive practice and should be revealed to consumers!

bull crap nsf charge!
I had a positive balance and made an online transfer which put my account at a good amount. I then look at my online banking the next day and i have been charges 5 $38 dollar nsf charges. MY account never even shows that it went into the negative online. I called to get it all straitened out and the lady yells at me. They now say the will return my call within 24-48hrs. If they do not remove the charges i will switch banks. I know one person switching big deal but. I have been baking with these bastards for 4 years, and didn"t even overdraw it. I do not understand thid unjustified charges. BBVA sucks!
