I planned a trip to Clarens for 3 Oct 09. I specifically found pet friendly accom as I was taking my dogs along. I paid the deposit on 22 Sept already. I called the owners wife Helena, who does the bookings, on Fri 2 Oct, to remind her that we would be arriving the next day. She completely forgot about the booking, but said it's fine, as no one has booked it (which in itself was a little strange and backward already) Anyway, when we got there on Saturday afternoon, I spoke to the owner Thys, who thought I was joking - only to realize I was serious, and that I had booked the place, but he had already put someone else in there for the weekend. He apologized and gave me back my deposit, with a tel number of someone who MIGHT be able to help with accom suitable for dogs too. The least he could've done was organize alternative accom for us. His wife was so embarrassed that she could not look me in the eye to greet or apologize, and she knew exactly what the situation was, and that she was actually to blame. This seems like a terrible reflection on the little town of Clarens, but fortunately not everyone there is like that. The lady where we eventually stayed was extremely hospitable.
