Laptop has been returned to Emachines 3 times for overheating and crashing
Bought laptop and extended warranty from Best Buy. Laptop has been returned to Emachines 3 times for overheating and crashing.

When extended warranty ended, took it to Best Buys "Geek Squad" to fix broken usb ports and overheating under their PSP/warranty program. "Technician" said that it was covered. Next day he called and said it had to be shipped out for motherboard replacement. Weeks later got a call from another "technician" who said that usb ports were not covered and would cost $600 to repair. I told them I did not intentionally break any parts of the machine and that I had been told it was covered under the "normal wear and tear" part of their warranty.

What is the point of a service contract if the item is not going to be serviced correctly the first time
I bought a dryer from best buy in 2001, we had a lot of problems with it so when the extended warranty was offered we bought it. Last Monday 3-10-08 I called, my dryer was working but it squeeled and was running loud. I took the day off and they sent a tech out(the tech for this area was sick, they sent someone else) on Friday..oddly enough the dryer still squeeled..now the drum doesn't even turn. I called again, a tech will be there tomorrow, took the day off..again, by 9 am. no call. I had to call to find out the tech is still out sick, we will rescedule you. Guess what no one in their right mind is going to take 3 days off to get a dryer fixed!!! Why wasn't I called that the tech was out? Oh, and it took 15 min for the appliance specialist to find the dryer today, it was under the wrong area code, why didn't any of the other specialists mention or fix this? Now I have been on hold for over an hour with different areas of BBY to get someone out today..Judy the supervisor for the scheduling was extremely unhelpful. to the point of being rude. What is the point of a service contract if the item is not going to be serviced correctly the first time..3 appointments, seriously!!

Poor service
I bought a $1, 500 Sony TV, surround sound system and Blue Ray DVD player from Best Buy and the sales person gave me a lot of misinformation and did not write up the sale correctly. As a result, when the so called Geeksquad came to deliver the tv there was a lot of confusion. They came with foul attitudes to begin with and said they would only see if the tv worked with my cable system when I was told by the sales person that 'setup' was included with the 'premium delivery'. I had to setup the entire system myself. And they were not going to take the old tv set when 'delivery and recycling' was stated in the ad for the new tv system. I had to call their supervisor, who was not at all good with customer service either, to make them take the old tv set. For me, Best Buy makes the consumer pay for the mistakes of the sales staff which is not right and they have not apologized for the poor cutomer service I recieved. There are other companies the do what Best Buy does and next time I will go elsewhere. I will never buy from Best Buy again!

Over priced hardware
Took PC (very old Dell desktop) to Geek Squad because of a "blue screen of death" error code. I had already researched it and pretty much knew it was the video card but had then check it anyway because it's been pretty slow lately. Get the call 2 days later .. .sure enough it's the video card. They can replace it for $53 + $50 labor + I already paid the $70 diag. fee... so I said I would replace it myself - can't be too hard. So I pick it up they sell me a $53 video card. Get it home to replace and it won't fit - wrong type of card. Snotty guy near returns says that's a APG (?) well do you have one???? Because what you sold me doesn't work. Ya I think I have ONE ... brings it back and it's $120 !!! Installed it anyway figuring had to have it and now just ordered one off Amazon that will work for $30 & plan to return their over priced $120 one that is way overboard for what I need. They knew this ... I don't play games etc. just basic pc stuff. Jerks! Won't go back

Their return policy is nothing more than poor customer service
They may have the ‘ best buy ’ in town but they definitely do not have the best return policy. Purchased my Blue Ray player on 5/19/10. It failed on 6/17 – a Thursday. I was out of town beginning on Fri and returned late Sun. Went to return my player (on Mon) a mere three days after their 30 day return window and was refused. Was told I would have to go through the warranty service provided by the manufacturer in order to fix my problem. In retrospect, I can think of so many companies I could have purchased my product from that would have been more than happy to return a $250 dollar item only 33 days after purchase. Simply put, their return policy is nothing more than poor customer service in a time where many dealers are bending over backwards to please their patrons. Their lack of assistance in this matter is the second such incident I have experienced with them.

Selling dangerous products
Has anyone had any issues with their GE dishwashers turning on automatically and catching fire or close to it? I purchased a dishwasher a little more than 3 years ago at Best Buy for more than $1000. A couple of weeks ago I went to bed only to wake up to a terrible burning plastic smell in my house. I followed the trail to the dishwasher and low and behold, it had turned on to the heat cycle and melted all of the heat resistant parts. GE denies there is an issue and offered to sell me a comparable washer for $468. The COnsumer protection Agency came to investigate the dishwasher and said there were other brands with the same issue but GE was not listed yet.

faltyn product and bad customer relations
I was sold a 45 " LCD tv (Best Buy) brand, , was not told about a 30 day limit on returns. The TV is ove well below acceptable quality and the connections are faulty I didn't find out about the 30 day limit until I called about the TV. I had owned it for 38 days and was told Im stuck with it. I will never buy a product fro Best Buy again. I also had the same issue with a new I Mac computer from Best Buy. I would have bought the extended warranty had I known thee was no software wrrantyon it. Now Im stuck paying $129.00 an hour for repairs. The company is full of untrained unenthusiastic youn ignorant employees.

Lies
My laptop screen malfunctioned and wasn't viewable. i took it in to the store and they looked at it and told me it had to be my fault. i know for the fact that the computer wasn't abused and it was only 2 months old. They told me that although it worked, it was basically a paperwieght. (their words) I asked if it could be fixed, or since it was still so new would they make right on it, and they said absolutely not. They told me they could send it out at my expense and have it fixed but it would cost in excess of $400 - $600. They computer only cost me $379. i said that's rediculous to cost that much for just a new screen when the computer didn't cost near that. they told me, "take it or leave it, we can show you some new computers." They weren't willing to help at all. I left the store completely upset and frustrated. When I got home and calmed down, i started to research replacement screens on the home computer. The new screen is now in, with shipping it only cost $70 and only took 30 minutes to replace. They told me it wasn't something people could do on their own and would have to be sent out and only their company could do it. I'll not be doing business there anymore. they lied to me and wanted only for me to spend more money.

Shameful business practices
Bottom Line: We should have been shown the Sony Bravia 40” KDL40EX600, not the Samsung 40” LN40C530F1F, as a replacement for our JVC 40” LCD TV. We were completely lied to that there was no other LCD TV, other than the Samsung, that would be a comparable replacement. We didn’t even know the Sony Bravia existed until we returned home after a 2 hour interrogation by our local Best Buy salespeople and manager, feeling shamed and beaten down. I don't even have our Geek Squad order number or original sales receipt, because the sales manager failed to return our paperwork after we said we were leaving and would be contacting customer service. They have promised to mail it to us, but I bet they are hoping it gets lost in the mail. This horrible experience began 3 years ago when we were convinced by a BB salesman to purchase a $2, 000 JVC 40" LCD TV, which was on sale for $1, 799. We were told it was a top of line TV due to its video and audio capabilities. We were also convinced that purchasing the $200 PSP was a "great deal" because it would cover all repairs or we would get a new TV. When our LCD panel went bad 2 weeks ago, we were told that the replacement was $2, 500 and would not be ordered because the cost exceeds the amount paid for the TV. We were then told “it was actually a good thing because we'll end up getting a better TV because of technology changes and improvements". My husband and I were actually excited to “go shopping” as the Geek Squad tech put it, but we should have known it was too good to be true. When we got to the local BB store, before we were even shown so called "comparable" tv's, we were told to "prepare ourselves for sticker shock". The salesperson told us this before they even knew the specs of the TV we purchased. I had printed out the basic specs of our JVC TV, which the salesperson looked at, and then immediately brought us to a $674 Samsung Model: LN40C530F1F. We tried looking at other TV’s, but were told that “no other LCD TV compared to our JVC". We were also told that "we should be happy about this because it was actually better than what we had." We were repeatedly reminded and encouraged to use the $674 towards a better TV, but that was not what we were promised when we purchased the TV and PSP. The fine print says that the replacement TV must be “comparable as determined by Best Buy” but that is a complete scam. The salesperson said that she would love to offer us a better TV, but Corporate would not allow it. She said the major issue was that our refresh rate was only 60 Hz and “absolutely no other LCD TV’s other than the Samsung had specs like this. We didn’t know anything about refresh rates, but felt we were getting taken, so we asked to speak with the manager. This was useless as the manager gave us the same song and dance about there being no other TV's that were comparable. The more we asked about seeing other TV’s the more we were told that “this was our replacement offer, take it or leave it”. So we left with our JVC still in the back seat and went home feeling like shamed criminals. If we had known it would be such a belittling experience, we would have gone better prepared. When we got home, we looked at the Best Buy online store to see if the Samsung really was the “ONLY” comparable TV and of course it was NOT. Our local Best Buy had a Sony Bravia, Model: KDL40EX600, with specs just like our JVC. WHY WEREN’T WE EVEN SHOWN THIS TV? We are not idiots and realize that technology has changed and that LCD TV’s are less expensive now, but we were promised a fair exchange under the PSP, and this was not the case at all. The reason we were shown the Sony Bravia was because of it’s price, not its specs. If you compare our JVC with the Sony Bravia and Samsung, it’s obvious that the Sony Bravia fits the bill much more than the Samsung. It was a complete lie that no other LCD TV had our pitiful 60 mZ refresh rate. Best Buy just didn’t want to give us a $1, 079 credit, they wanted us to be happy with $674, knowing full well we would end up paying more out of our own pocket to get a decent TV. They convince us to spend our hard-earned money on their products and plans, and then take full advantage of us when we try and get what we were promised. They say the PSP is not about the money but it COMPLETELY about the money. If there was more than one TV with similar specs to ours, why weren’t we told about it? Why were we belatedly lied to? We even checked if the Sony Bravia KDL40EX600 was available at our local store and it was. So where was it and why weren’t we shown it? Why was a $674 value placed on TV when the salesperson and manager didn't even take the time to familiarize themselves with our JVC specs? It was like saying if my Honda CR-V broke down, that I should be happy with a Hyundai as a replacement. No disrespect to Hyundai owners but we all know they are cheaper than Honda’s for multiple reasons. All we want is what was promised. A TV that is equally comparable to our original. This TV would be the Sony Bravia and NOT the Samsung model. We have nothing against Samsung TV’s but we bought our JVC for certain qualities that are not present with the Samsung’s budget model. The “no lemon” policy is a joke. They should have to tell you that you better not expect too much should anything go wrong. The fine print about the local store determining what’s comparable should also be illegal when they don’t even take the time to learn about the product you are trying to replace. Has anyone successfully sued Best Buy for this shameful practice?
