They are just bullies
I received advertising mail through the post and decided to order some children's books. The books offered were at a very reasonable rate for joining the book club. I was supposed to buy up to 4 books a year. When the catalog came to choose more books to buy, they were absolutely extortionate prices which I could not afford. On 15/7/09 I wrote a letter to cancel my membership. I received no reply to this letter but the company kept sending me catalogs and even sent books I did not order, which I had to return. I tried phoning the company but there seems to be nobody there who can speak much English and the problem did not get solved. The catalog's kept coming which I promptly returned un opened. I began to felt bullied and kept trying to cancel my membership. Then I received a bill for £40.00 as a fine for not buying books. The small print on the contract is very misleading and why should I be forced into buying books. This case went to debt collectors and then to a legal department-ALL AT THE SAME ADDRESS! oN 24/12/08 I rang the debt collector CCSCOLLECT and said I was not willing to pay this fine as I found it to be unfair trading. They said my comments would be passed to BFC. I then received a letter from Charles Howard and Partners on 20/2/09 giving me 72 hours notice of a home visit. The man I spoke to was quite rude and stern as I was trying to explain and kept asking do i want to pay now. He even said it was not a good idea to join this club as the books one is supposed to buy are much more expensive than on the initial offer and there are only certain books one can buy to fulfill the contract. To me, this is unfair trade descriptions and I would like to warn other members who get sucked in to this sort of trading. Why can't they make it clear from the start. This should be made illegal. BFC have had so many complaints before (just look at the Internet) but they are still allowed to trade. Disgusting to say the least. They are just BULLIES.
