I started employment at Big Bites on 07-22-2010. On my first day my boss Joseph Elgouhl (owner) provided me with an employee handbook. In that handbook it stated that he specifically did not believe in terminating any employee without proper explanation. For the two days that I worked there I did everything that was asked of me and then some. On 07-26-2010 I received a call from Johanna (Manager) at 10:03pm and stated that Joseph asked her to call me and let me know that it just wasn’t working out and I was fired. There was no explanation and when I tried calling to speak to Joseph about it on numerous occasions he would not take my calls. I feel that was very unprofessional. In addition on the days that I worked I was not allowed a regular break OR a lunch break. These days I speak of were 9 hour shifts. I went to pick up my “check” on 07-27-2010 and to my surprise there was no check at all I was paid off in cash which I suppose is “under the table?” The whole ordeal was extremely unprofessional, one of the worst experiences I have ever been through. I know there isn’t much that can be done for me but I can only hope that these issues will be looked into so no one else will have to go through what I had to.
