My wallet and cell phone were stolen in June 2008, and credit was issued by BIG in my name. BIG took payments from my account at the bank. I called and my Mom spoke with them and they would not accept the claim of fraud. I was informed that an advance had been credited to my checking in August, and the $200 advance had accrued fees and interest in less than two months to a total of over $500.00. BIG has threatened that the amount would continue to escalate and my wages would be garnished to pay for the advance. Furthermore, both representatives my Mom spoke with called me a liar. This is very offensive to us. I can only imagine what rate of interest and fees they are charging for advances they make - it has to be "usuary". I am an eighteen year old college student and cannot afford to have withdrawls from my account for funds I did not ask for. In addition, I have never received any disclosures for the account they established, even though they have my mailing address. Had I received a card and the federally mandated disclosures, i would have known much sooner that there was a problem. The repeated attempts by BIG to debit my checking account cost me $646.00 in NSF fees, and resulted in numerous legitimate payments to others being bounced. I am currently working with my bank to provide the appropriate affidavits of fraud to BIG, but their representative would not commit to a resolution for me.
