This website is sickening! For one it is clear that this woman does not have a whole lot of experience in "teaching". Anyone can get a degree, but it takes a special person to actually be able to obtain all of the qualities to be a teacher. I get real frustrated at people who call themselves teachers, but have put in little, or no time into the actual practice. I have taught for about 12 years now and would never create such a "high horse" website. She also clearly does not know much about teaching elementary, and what it's like to have kids who are not bored in school and are truly struggling. You can be someone who knows a lot about little, but i'd rather be someone who knows a little about a lot. Point blank, it just seems to me this site is extremely opinionated and the life experience behind teaching just isn't there. My thoughts is that this person has a gifted, or above average child, and she is on a mega power trip, as some parents often get, that her child is not getting challenged enough, so she's going to take this into her own hands.
Here are a couple of great resources on gifted and talented. I work with it all in my elementary classroom. I have a spectrum of gifted and talented to special education kids...
