On 5/5/10, I put a deposit on an apartment in the amount of $490.00. Kinsi, the lady working there at the time, said I could start moving things in on 5/14. On 5/9/10, I called their office and informed them that my house is no longer in foreclosure and that I need to cancel the apartment rental. I asked Kinsi to please refund the deposit. She said that will send the money. A week, then 2 weeks passed and no money was returned. I contacted their office many times, left messages, and also e-mails. Today, 6/1, I received a message from the office (could not understand the name) in which I was informed that my deposit will not be returned. I am outraged. They never explained their policy, in fact, I had to ask Kinsi for a brochure. The only thing she handed me was a one page showing the monthly cost and some amounts for deposits and other fees. I informed them only a few days later that I will no longer need the apartment, but yet they waited until today to let me know. This person also said that Kinsi is no longer working there.
Policy was never explained or nothing in writing was handed to me. I called them a few days after the deposit to let them know I need to cancel. They had plenty of time to talk with me or write, but they chose to ignore my calls.
Do you have any suggestions on having this deposit returned?
