Blendtec has come up with it's latest attempt for a competitive advantage over Vita Mix by offering the 96oz / 3 liter container with 4 inch blade.

While it is of course intriguing to have a 96 oz container space to fill up with ingredients, it also means following:

1. more strain on the motor because the blade is larger
2. more smoothie servings or more ingredients wasted
3. more money spent and more equipment standing around in the kitchen...

etc.

Do you really need a 96oz container? When would one need a 96oz container?

Our answer is: This is just another gimmick factor, a marketing stunt.

A 96oz container comes in handy when you have a large party with lots of smoothies or ice-cream to serve. Or, of course if you have a large family, a larger container will allow you to make more at one time.

The 4 inch blade can hit more ingredient-particles at one time and in theory you get done faster and better. But has anyone ever thought about the consequences? Yes they have. Blendtec makes a 20 amp blender. In the past, the 96oz 4 inch blade container was ONLY offered with this mega-commercial giant for about a $1000. And now, suddenly, it is available with the 13 amp Total Blender.

In the past, we were told and we also were able to learn this our selves, that the 96oz container with the 4 inch blade requires at least an 18 amp 3+ hp blender, if not better, a 20 amp motor.
