Consumer Y May 12, 2011
Retail Value
It is extremely frustruating owing a BMW, as I cannot understand how a vehicle costing R500000 at date of purchase can have a retail value of under R310000, this is a drop of 38% in 1 year or ownership. Also why would this manufacturer choose to equip all its cars with run flat tyres. Do you know, replacing a set of BMW runflats is a costly exercise, costing in excess of R22000. It is unfair for BMW as a manufactur to overcharge its customers and then also hurt the consumer when the consumer wants to trade in the vehicle. I am of the opinion that in South Africa we should be able to buy and sell cars freely, due to the extensive travelling that we do. Granted there will be a decrease in its retail value, but not 38% worth.

BMW 530D RETARD CARD, NO COMPENSATION
Without Prejudice"
Dear Editor/s/motor ombudsman
I have been a BMW driver for the last 20 years, having driven and owned about 45 BMWs .I have been fortunate enough to have owned most of the models from the 3, 5, 7, z and x5 models.
Of all the models, I have been in particular really impressed with the 5 series models, having owned 6 of them, these cars were mind blowing and were workhorses of note, some with mileages as high as 350 000km still running strong on the original engine.
Of the six 5 series models I owned, I only spend around R2500, 00 changing wheel bearings on the one, of course not to mention the usual services and wear and tear .
In 2006 I purchased a BMW 530D .The car was priced at R380000.00 and had 60000
or so km on the clock and was an approved BMW car from Auto Umhlanga.
Soon after delivery, the car picked up rattles and squeaks which became very unbearable. I contacted the
dealership but was obviously given the run around as they had already been paid and really didnt give a damn
about me .
So after some two months BMW customer care had the official complaint of the problem.
A senior technician from the Head office was sent down to Durban to look at the car.. The report was clean but they could not seem
to figure out the rattles and so the story went on and the car, a PREMIUM 5 SERIES BMW, just parked in the garage and was hardly used as I was to embarrassed to even take family or friends in it.
Then it seemed to be more in the BMW workshop having problems ranging from active steering wheels, to clutch at 80000km and propshaft problems.
The car also had a mechanical breakdown in Swaziland where some pulleys had collapsed and had to be
replaced . This left me stranded in Swaziland with my nine year old son.
Around March 2009, I was driving to Durban and the car had a total electronic failure and shut down on the freeway just outside Durban.
The electronic failure put the car in a lock mode causing suspension collapse, steering wheel deactivation, odometer shut down and
more.Fortunately I am an experienced driver and the car is a manual so I kept very calm, pressed the clutch in and tried to restart using the kick start method which worked and I quicky brought the car back to controll although everything had shut down. I managed to drive the car back home with no instruments working, suspension collapse and no lights.
It was a hell ride, but I had no option as my life was endangered if I just sat on the freeway waiting for help.
This incident was reported to BMW customer care. At this stage the car had around 94000km just out of motor plan with time.
I was asked take the car to BMW in Pietermaritzburg, and was to be re-embursed for all towing costs which I never received.
So the car was diagnosed at SMG BMW, and found water had been entering the car and was pooling in the tyre well
in the boot, which HOUSED ELECTRONIC MODULES .
These models were eroded as they had been floating in water for some time and there was no problem with the
rubber seals on the boot lid.
SO WHERE DID AND HOW DID THE WATER GET
INTO A PREMIUM 5 SERIES BMW WORTH HALF A MILLION RANDS. So BMW paid for the parts replaced at their costs.
This raises questions: why did bmw pay for the replacement of these parts.

So I went on investigating this problem, as of concern to the public road users and other BMW drivers, and have discovered from BMW technicians that this car does have a history of this problem and BMW is aware of such problem but it has never been released to the Public and these cars never called back . Apparently these electronic modules have never been properly insulated at time of manufacture and the buck simply passed on to the Motor Plan . I could have killed myself, my family and innocent road users as this car switched of and locked on a freeway.
Around September 2010 this car had an engine failure. At just over 100000km, and rated the best diesel engine in the world
Apparently a swirlflap on the cylinder head broke and entered the engine causing damage, some R160 000.00 damage.

Yet again BMW wants to pay half the cost of repairs which seems so so strange. This car was parked at Smg dealership in Pietermaritzburg while futile ongoing negotiations with Bmw took place.
In the interim, i have beeen paying the monthly installement and insurance of approx. R7500 p/m and car hire costs .

Finally in March 2011, BMW agreed to pay 80%of engine cost, and I had to refinance the shortfall of R30 000..once again incurring more expenses...not forgetting the ongoing car hire costs.
Last week, the very same bmw530D, swtiched off on the highway again, with no controls working. Even the hazzard lights were not functioning.
The car was towed at my costs to Cedar Isle auto, Upon inspection, the car has water on the inside. Water seems to be leaking into the car from the engine compartment, and settling near the driver side pedals.

We are once again suffering damages, we have not been compensated in ANY way for costs incurred as a result of this defective car.
I want to be compensated and this motor vehichle must be replaced by BMW.
Bmw contact: Lawrence Titus.

Having done only 35000km or so in 4 years for a car that I paid some R600000 for with
finance charges, leaves me with a spend of R17000, per k/m...wow that should go on the world book of record.

DEFECT AFTER DEFECT
My name is Robert Horsley, On February 24, 2011 I took delivery of a 2008 750 Li BMW from Rick Hendrick BMW in Charlotte, NC. Within days, I began to experience problems with this vehicle, such as hearing a squeaking noise when applying pressure to the brakes, and a faulty TPM reset lite. I made several attempts to reset the lite, however it was unsuccessful. On March 11, 2011 I took this vehicle in for maintenance to a different BMW Service Department for the items mentioned above for repair, they removed and installed NEW front and back brake pads...Something I questioned to why this was not completed during diagnostic testing and repair prior to selling a Certified Pre-owned BMW. After driving this vehicle two weeks later the TPM lite came back on and there is a problem now with the vehicle changing gears while accelerating during take-off. Also, there is vibration in the steering as if there is an alignment issue or out of balance or some sort. On April 11, 2011, this vehicle is back once again in the BMW Service Department. The technicians drained and filled the transmission with new fluid, and then ran test plan for clearing clutch adaptions from EGS control unit. Test drove 5 miles to verify that the problem was gone. Transmission shifted normal every time after repair, But they were unsuccessful at figuring out why this vehicle has a vibration issue at multiple speeds during travel, nor could they figure out why the TPM lite constantly appears on the panel for reset. This vehicle was in repair with BMW Service Department from April 11, 2011 at 12:00pm to April 12, 2011 at 5:30pm. The Technician from Leith BMW called me 30 minutes prior to the close of business to inform me they would need to keep this vehicle an additional day to receive information back from BMW in reference to the repair issues, because it pertains to the transmission, and they need answers of how to handle it. I was irate to say the least due to the fact I had not plan to stay overnight an additional day. This vehicle is clearly not up to company standards, this entire ordeal has been very frustrating to say the least, making monthly payments on a BMW which demands trips to the Service Department less than 30 days of purchase is not a good representation of a BMW product. I am not a Technician of any sort, however I feel there is a transmission/computer issue with this vehicle causing multiple problems. Many of which I feel should have been resolved prior to purchase or classified as a LEMON!!! I'm upset because I have made several calls, e-mails and sent all service invoices to the Service Managers, CPO Managers, Sales Managers, and the General Managers to explain the repair issues and not to mention my frustration. Rick Hendrick BMW of Charlotte, NC has not owned up to their mistake of selling this vehicle with several defects, nor have they tried to provide some sort of solution to resolve the issue, considering expense of this purchase. Rick Hendrick BMW of Charlotte, NC simply could care less!!! The CPO Manager had the audacity to inform me that they were ranked highest for customer satisfaction, Obviously I am NOT in that category, the only satisfaction I'm concern with is my own, and it hasn't been GREAT!!! Reality is the customer decides if they are satisfied or not, if Rick Hendrick BMW of Charlotte, NC continues to treat bying customers poorly, due to complaints regarding a recent purchase. They will NOT be known at all, because consumers will continue to take their business elsewhere, and Rick Hendrick BMW of Charlotte, NC will be out of business!!! Exactly where they should be!!!
Do not lie to your customers about the condition of your vehicles!!! Pre-owned or Certified Pre-owned.

Endras BMW Dealership Service
The Endras BMW dealership, specifically the service department does not have or maintain the required skill set at the technician level to accurately diagnose and correct problems. The inability to correct diagnose or correct a problem is worrisome. Simple tasks like ensuring the tire pressure is accurate was not performed. Requests to not wash the vehicle went unheeded. This then begs the question if simple tasks can not be performed what about work which is more complicated in nature. Endras BMW is not run efficiently, there is a fundamental lack of focus on the customer and a general lack of customer service. If you have purchased your vehicle somewhere else, be prepared to have your BMW licence plate holder changed to the "Endras BMW" nameplate. I will direct my future business to other dealers such as Town + Country BMW or Marenello BMW service my vehicle even though they are out of the way. You will be better served if you can avoid this dealership for your BMW service.

Commotment not fulfilled
Sir,
To bring your kind attention towards my worst experience with one of your so called authorised dealer Deutsche Motoren Pvt Ltd (Moti Nagar)
As in Nov 2010 I had planned to buy a BMW 530D so when contacted your dealer Deutsche Motoren Pvt Ltd their rep. Arnob Bose committed me a discount on the car and as the color chose by me was not available with them at that point of time They promised me to arrange the car till Jan 2011, took a cheque for the booking amount and made a booking for the 525D and insisted that I should rather buy as he wants to acheive his sales target of the month for which I refused and he had cancelled that 525 booking which i have never made and then issued me a new 530D booking amount reciept which i insisted on .
Then in Jan 2011 i asked the status of my car but didnt got any satisfied reply as they told its not in the prod and will get in March 2011
Since then I visited their showroom in Feb and he showed me in their records that booking amount along with the discount was deposited in my name on account of 530D
which was supposed to be manufactured on 11 March and now when I approached them with all the papers for processing they refused for any commitments being made by them and discount mentioned at the time of booking the car.
From Nov I have been waiting for a particular color of car and had booked it and now when the car has to be delivered they have refused for all the comitments just because I m being told that from 1st April Bmw will raise the prices and they will sell to somebody else at a higher price this just shows the image of a company I have given cheque on behalf of BMW India not on the name of any sales person Arnob Bose I m very much surprised with this kind of treatment i m getting from ur dealer as it is just pre sales i m facing this kind of behaviour what will happen after sales.
Nobody can trust the BMW anymore if your dealers are cheating people and collecting booking amount just to increase their sales these are very cheap business startegies coz it truly downgrade the reputation of the company
Even contacted to GM Amarjeet regarding this matter but didnt got any satisfactory result as they say they can cancel my booking anytime, just tell me I have been waiting from last 6 months for the car and now at the time of delivery such thing was not expected which was very much dissapointing as There are many other brands in the market but never heard of this kind of a thing happened and to my astonishment I wonder dont these people get the adequate sales or they have started to fool people coz its cheating rather would suggest you should cancel their dealership as they are just downgrading the image and reputation of BMW
I have both the receipts of 525 which was intentionally made by him and was cancelled later on and my 530D along with paper on which he has mentioned the discount in his own handwriting
