I ordered a book for my daughter, hoping to get it by the time school let out in June. The owner of Burgundy Books in East Haddam, Ct...Linda insisted that I pay her ahead of time because customers sometimes will not return for the book. A few weeks went by and I did not hear from her even though she had my phone number. I called and she said she couldn't order the book. What irritated me was that she never called to let me know that. She asked if there is another book she can order for me and I gave her another title. Again, I did not hear from her. I sent her an e-mail which she never responded to. Then I called her again, at which time I was irritated and asked her to send me my refund. She took my address and said she would mail it out. A week later there was no check. I called yet again and spoke to her husband who helped me look for books the very first time I came to the store. He took my message but still a week passed and there was no check. I called again and spoke to the husband expressing my frustration and irritation of the lack of customer service. He said (get this) "I don't work here". I became irritated as you can imagine since he worked there when I was IN the store. He began to yell at me and hung up. A moment later, he called again and hung up and another moment later, the wife-Linda calls and says that I upset one of her workers. I responded that I did not since according to him i did not talk to a worker. She then continued to tell me that I am harrasing her and that it is only 7.59, so why am I making such a big deal about it? She said she will not send me the money that she took from me without the product I ordered but that I have to come in to the store. She continued to rant and rave and then called a moment after hanging up again, threatening that if I come in with a bad attitude she will call the police. At this time my friend took the phone and she continued her psychotic behavior. We told her that all I wanted was my money back and she would not hear that. This woman says I was harassing her for money that she illegally kept, yet they called my phone 3 times in a span of 9 minutes. Usually when this type of thing happens once, it probably happened before. These people have no business working with the public. She took my money and refused to refund after never getting me the product. I strongly do not recommend this store with what looks like a total of 20 books in the entire place. In the end I got my money because I was not going to let this crazy woman have it. It was only 7.59 but for me it was the principle.
