discrimination
The Managers at this location discriminate against people being of a older age. A friend of mine is over 50 and they have been working their hardest to get a good position in the new location. The male manager told them they were too old and too slow, and doesn't see them fitting in with the young crowd while working. This friend of mine does not mess around at work, they are only trying to do their best at their new job. Since the manager my friend they were too old and too slow, my friend has not been scheduled any hours for over a week! When Burlington's says they are hiring for entry level positions, they should put in black bold letters no one over the age of 30 and must not have any health issues!

bad customer service
I recently applied to work at the new Newark, CA. store at Burlinton Coat Factory at New Park mall 08/14/2010. That turned out to be a horrble expeience. To cut some of the details short, I felt the hiring manager mistreated me based on my race. An african american gentlemen and i both waited patiently while Kevin, the hiring mgr. interviwed everyone before us, although we waited for over an hour and was there befor these applicants. A fter that he talked to his friend for another 45mins. When i was finially interviewed by his partner he could not seem less interested!! that really made me angry and hurt fot the sipmle fact that ive worked in retail management for years and i know i was more than qualified for a sales associate position. I never got a call for the position, no surprise there. As i left kevin asked me why ws i still there, was i waiting for a phone call.. wow i was shocked.. i cant believe people in management would act like that. had thay took the time to really interview me, they would have saw what a great person i am. and not focus on race...

Tags still on - original receipt - still won't take it back
The store receipt says the clothes must have the original tags on them, must be accompanied with the original receipt, and can be returned within 30 days of purchase. Unfortunately there's also a subjective return policy that states that it's at the manager's discretion. Well - I bought 3 children's suits (really only needed one and told the cashier I would be returning the other 2 once my wife decides on the one she likes). I brought them home - my wife liked one of them - I packed the other 2 and took them back to the store. The store examined the 2 suits (still with the tags and everything) and stated they couldn't take them back because there was a spot on each suit. I took my hands and wiped off the spot...them they found another one. I did the same and ultimately they said they can't take it back because it's worn. Keep in mind that these suits had the tags on them - in full view - and I found many other garments on the same rack with similar spots (that could easily be wiped off with a moist cloth).
I simply took the items to another store where the simply took it back - no questions asked.
The Burlington Coat Factory at North Dekalb Mall in Decatur GA has the dumbest manager out there - Robert. Please do not shop there - this store needs to be shut down for its lack of service and policies.

Unethical/Illegal actions
Worst experience ever! My friend and I heard and noticed a few things that I knew was illegal in this store. Unfortunately it'd be my word against theirs so I couldn't do anything.
The first thing you notice as you come in is that it looks to be closed. The display windows are all covered up in black. As you enter, you notice that it's too crowded with merchandise! There's no way two people can fit in the same aisle, yet somehow people seem to think their carts will. The best way to describe the place would be chaos. My friend was trying to find some clothes and you couldn't even begin to know where to look. Clothes were everywhere and there's no sales associate so you can ask a question.
I left my friend to traverse that jungle while I looked in the men's section. This one was a lot more organized. I quickly found what I was looking for. However, when i went to the fitting room, I saw some workers removing the sensors and stuffing them in their backpacks. Apparently they were done for the day and decided to do some five finger shopping.
My friend also found what she was looking for she went into the fitting room. This turned out to be a BIG mistake...
The first one she tried, there's an abundance of clothes on the bench and the floor and all over the stall, so she moved on. She took the next available one only to come out immediately because it stank so badly of stale urine. Apparently someone decided to use this place for a bathroom. The next one was even worse, someone actually took a crap in that section. We immediately went to the front to the manager, Sue, to have it cleaned up. She calls someone, we presume to be the janitor, to clean it so we went back to the fitting room. A sales associate showed up, when we asked where the janitor was, we were told that they were downsized a few months ago. So, the associate had the illustrious job of going to the women's room, grabbing some toilet paper and SCOOPING out the crap and throwing it away in a trash can! Meanwhile we were trying to keep our lunches since that's just plain unsanitary. As if that wasn't bad enough, Sue starts yelling at her for not being in the section even though we saw her before as one of the cashiers. How does that work?
We immediately declined the use of the fitting room and resolved never to come back there again!
Worst store and worst experience ever

Shocking customer service
There was this cs rep who was almost threatening to attack me and my husband. He was so rude and casual about his job. When my husband asked a query he just pointed a finger while chewing gum or something...
He just kept arguing and not being respectful of the fact that customers have to be treated with courtesy..

Lack of customer service
I came to get my layaway off for a winter coat and an outfit on Wednesday and instead I got nothing. First I waited for 45 mins just for a man to come from the back to talk to a manager and say he couldn't find it. Then the manager proceeds to ask me how did the cashier find me in the system when I wasn't in it. I told her she looked it up from my phone number and she wrote the rest down. So the manager left for all of 1 min to tell me that it was canceled and there was nothing she could do for me. I asked her how was it canceled if the cashier whose name was Angie found me and never said anything about it the manager then said she didn't know. I am 9 months pregnant and my fiancee had came up to the same Burlington 2 days prior asking could he get my layaway for me because I am suppose to be relaxing right now. The lady that he talked to told him no and he explained the situation to her and still nothing. I am very upset and would like a full apology from someone because on this site and my receipt it clearly says a store voucher and a 5.00 cancellation fee I didn't get either. While I was in that same store I watched this same young man say 3 times including mine that people's layaway wasn't back there so obviously someone needs to step up and take blame for this because that is not how a business should be ran..

Harassment
I have been currently working at Burlington Coat Factory store #471 for a year in the youth dept. i have to say its a terrible job, the type of people that shop there its ridiculous. they shop like pigs. they come in make a mess, steal and when it comes time to check out, they alwa is leave stuff at the registers. i mean if theyre not going to buy something, why do they pick it up in the first place.
Second, theres this manager named Georgiana who does nothing but harass me and give me a hard time every chance she gets. she writes me up for no reason, she threatens to fire me shes constantly on my case just for the fun of it. not to mention that she called me lazy once. she gets on people just for talking which i think is ridiculous. she recently wrote me up last week because she claims i was in another department talking, i of course didnt sign the paper because i knew i wasnt true and i knew i was working. she said i didnt have to sign it but that she was going to call the HR manager and the district manager on me because according to her, its my third or fourth write up for talking which is a big lie. which by the way she lies alot about alot of things.
the lady has problems, because when we have to close with her she will keep us there all night, we can be done with our departments and she will still keep us there two or three hours after we've closed. its like she doesnt have a life, she even said it that she has no life so "burlington" was her life. thats so sad to know!! she may not have a life but the rest of us do. she says its company policy that we all have to leave together and that nobody can leave early. which is also not true.
people have complained about her previously to the coorporate office, but its like they dont take action. they talk to her and say things to her, she'll calm down for a couple of weeks then she'll be back to how she was before. i dont know why they dont just fire her and get it over with! also we dont have a store manager, its been like that for the past six months, we got a new store manager named Doug in May only for him to get fired two months later thanks to Georgiana just like what happened with the manager we had before Doug. i think we might as well not have a store manager because Georgiana will do anything to get rid of them. i think its her that they should of gotten rid of instead. she acts like she owns and runs the place which she doesnt.
another thing is that people tend to show favoritism around that store. for example there are people Georgiana doesnt say anything to if she sees them talking. and then a couple of weeks back, the accountant made a rude comment to me and i snapped back at her. she went and told the other manager we have Manzar, that i cursed her out and he wrote me up. that was so not fair because he was there when she said what she said to me and he acts like he didnt hear it. not to mention that they dont give you the days you request to work and to be off. they want you to work whenever they want you to, and if you call off just one time they make a big deal about it. which i dont think its fair because we cant help it that things come up when you least expect it.
i wish i had never worked for thais company. there they take advantage of you, and then they want to overwork you for little or nothing. the management there is just terrible. i felt like i just had to vent about the harassment and mistreatment i go through at Burlington.

Never again!
I went into Burlington Coat Factory to put some toys for my son on layaway for Christmas. I gave a CASH down payment to the clerk at the time of my purchase. I came back a week later to pick up the items but the store employees were having difficulty finding my items. I stood at the customer service station for over an hour waiting for them to locate the toys..no luck. The store employees were not sympathetic at all...only occasionally acknowledging my presence and saying"they're still looking".
I got tired of waiting for my order so I asked for my money back. The clerk told me that I would have to wait to receive my money back in the form of a check in the mail since they would have to deem it a "Lost Layaway". She said that it should arrive in 7-10 business days.
After about 3 weeks of waiting I called the corporate office to check on the status but the woman said that I would have to wait until the check had been out for 30 days and if I still hadn't received it then I should call back and she would put a stop-payment on the check and issue another one.
It has now been a month since my layaway was lost and I have still not gotten my money back. I called the woman back today and she said that she would do the stop-payment and that my check should go out tomorrow. I asked her if I could have the check sent overnight or Certified Mail so that it would require a signature for delivery, but she simply said "NO". So, basically I have been waiting a month to get a refund on a transaction that was cancelled because thy were unable to locate my layaway and I could potentially wait another month if the check does not come this time.
I WILL NEVER SHOP AT BURLINGTON COAT FACTORY AGAIN!!!

return dissatisfaction
I RETURNED TWO ARTICLES OF CLOTHING TO BURLINGTON'S AND WAS INFORMED BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN PAST THEIR DATE TO CREDIT MY CHARGE CARD FOR THE AMOUNT THEY WOULD ISSUE ME A STORE CREDIT. THIS WAS FINE...BUT THEN THE CREDIT THEY WERE GIVING WAY WAS BELOW THE AMOUNT I HAD PAID.
WHEN I COMPLAINED THE CLERK SAID THAT WAS STORE POLICY...THE MERCHANDISE HAD ALL ORIGINAL TAGS ATTACHED, GARMENTS NEVER WORN, AND ORIGINAL RECEIPT WAS GIVEN TO THEM. THEY SAID IT DIDN'T MATTER...I TALKED WITH TWO EMPLOYEES AND ASK FOR THE MANAGER AND WAS GIVEN SAME REPLY...NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT, AS 1)IT WAS STORE POLICY AND 2) THEIR SYSTEM WOULDN'T ALLOW IT.
I HAVE SHOPPED AT A LOT OF STORES, HAVE RETURNED ITEMS AND HAVE ALWAYS RECEIVED THE AMOUNT I PAID FOR THE MERCHANDISE WITH MY SALES RECEIPT.
THIS IS RIDICULOUS. NO WHERE ON THE RECEIPT DOES IT MENTION A 2 WEEK RETURN CLAUSE ...YET THAT IS WHAT THEY CLAIM WHEN YOU TRY TO RETURN SOMETHING.
I ALSO FIND THE QUALITY OF THEIR MERCHANDISE TO BE SUBSTANDARD...AND DOUBT THAT I WILL EVER SHOP THERE AGAIN...AND I WILL CERTAINLY INFORM ANY AND ALL FAMILY, FRIENDS AND ACQUAINTANCES OF THIS STORES TERRIBLE CUSTOMER RELATIONS, MERCHANDISE ETC... JKG

Corruption
I was working at Burlington Coat Factory as a Loss Prevention Associate. My manager asked me to inform a lady who was in the store with an empty back pack that she had to leave the bag with customer service. Upon doing so the lady became irate, and went and complained to the same manager, who then denied knowing anything about the incident. The lady left the store. About 10 minutes later I stepped outside to smoke a cigarette, thinking that lady was long gone. She had been waiting out there the entire time. When she saw me she began issuing threats, and and saying, "did you tell me to kiss your ass, " I continued ignoring this person. She then ran back into the store, and almost immidiately back out. Upon exiting again she said, "I know who you are, " she said my first and last name and then said, "I'm gonna get you now!" I immidiately went into the store to ask my manager why she gave this woman who was issuing threats to me my last name and she began yelling. My complaint is that not only did this manager know that she should not be giving personal information about employees to hostile people, but that she did so knowing that the person was yelling threats at me. I quit Burlington Coat Factory during this incident, and hope never to work for a company that has such disregard for its employees again.
