Damaged vehicle
My wife and I live in Louisiana and I work in Afghanistan for the Department of Defense. My wife was visiting Georgia in February 2009 and while she was there, her Escalade would not start. She called On Star and roadside assistance towed it to Riverside Chevrolet-Cadillac in Rome Ga. The Escalade stayed at the dealer for a week and the dealer said they were having trouble finding out why the Escalade would not start. The service manager requested to keep the vehicle for an extended period of time so they could find the problem. I told the service manager I did not mind them keeping the vehicle as long as it was stored inside the shop. The service manager told me and my wife "no problem, it would be locked up in the shop every night ". The dealer kept it for almost a month and said they could not duplicate the symptom. My wife picked up the Escalade, drove it to Calhoun Georgia and parked it. The Escalade stayed parked for about ten days. My wife needed to buy groceries so she decided to drive the Escalade but it would not start. Roadside assistance towed it back to Riverside Chevrolet for repair. I again told the service manager I did not mind the amount of time it would take to repair the Escalade as long as it was locked up inside the shop, and again the service manager told me and my wife “no problem". The dealer kept it for another ten days and on April 11 the service manager called my wife and told her the Escalade had been heavily damaged by a hail storm the night before. The service manager told me and my wife not to worry because the dealership would take care of the repairs. Approximately an hour later the service manager called back and told my wife that Andy Wellborn (the owner of Riverside) would not pay for the repairs and we would need to fix the Escalade our self. I called Andy Wellborn and reminded him that we left our vehicle with his dealership in good faith that he and is employees would take good care of my vehicle. Andy told me he would not fix something that was an act of God and I was on my own. So now I have an $80, 000.00 Escalade that will not run and looks like a golf ball. I called an attorney in Atlanta and he told me to file a claim directly with the dealerships insurance. I called Andy Wellborn back and requested his insurance information. All Andy would tell me is he had insurance with Travelers. I called Travelers Ins and they told me that neither Riverside nor Andy Wellborn has insurance with Travelers. After two months of fighting with Andy Wellborn and his dealership, I turned the matter over to my own insurance company. My insurance attempted to file a claim on the dealers insurance but Andy Wellborn lied to my insurance company also. It would have been nice to know that Riverside was not going to take care of my vehicle while in their care bucause I would have taken my vehicle to a real dealership. I would strongly recommend that anyone considering Riverside Chevrolet – Cadillac or any Riverside Auto Group dealer for a purchase or service seriously reconsider. This dealer is all over the internet regarding poor service and questionable business practices. In closing I would also like to add that while I was talking to Andy Wellborn, I indicated that I was in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Andy’s response to that was “Is that supposed to mean something to me”. I told him it was comforting to know that I have rockets shot at me on a daily basis so he has the freedom to be the lying scum that he is.
