FEBRUARY 9/2009. BUYER BEWARE!!! I am writing in regards to the damage Cal Alta Auto Glass has done to my vehicle in Calgary, Alberta. The location was 3927 Edmonton Trail NE. The installer was Dale, and the salesman was Mason. The vehicle (BMW) was brought in for a new windshield and an adjustment to the seal on the front passenger window. The seal was not fixed, and i was NOT charged for the work they did on that portion.
Upon completion, i noticed 2 tears in the upholstery, 3 inches up the pillar. After bringing the vehicle back for an "inspection of damage", I was met with EXTREME denial, which quickly progressed into accusations i was out for a "free ride". After the two of them continued assuring me the damage was present prior to the work being started, the installer Dale actually tried to tell me "their could have been a microscopic tear in the upholstery which was opened up when we sprayed compressed air in the area." Are you kidding me!!! They then "reminded" me they "fixed" my passenger window free of charge...I was NOT charged because the window was NOT fixed. It became quite obvious they weren't going to admit to causing the damage, I gave them my 2 cents about their practices and left. Now i'll admit, i was smoking angry at the situation and really gave it to them. 2 hours later a message was left on my machine from the sales manager. He said i took things too personally, and since the tears looked new and they pride themselves on helping customers, they were going to cover the cost of the repair. Great i thought! Finally someone in this world takes responsibility!
One night later, a Sunday evening, I come outside at 10pm to find my front passenger window broken. Window was ok when i arrived at 8pm. I live in a very safe neighborhood in the NW, and in 11 years at the current residence, we have NEVER had a vehicle broken into or vandalized. The car wasn't locked, so the alarm was not engaged. Mysteriously...my $600 radar detector is still present, along with the $2000 laptop sitting in plain view on the passenger seat. This leads me to believe it wasn't the work of your local "crack head", but your local auto glass business! To think this person, would go to the trouble of finding my address, coming to my house, breaking my window in the early evening, just because i said a few nasty things to him is far fetched. But further far fetched is the idea my car window would be broken so early in the evening, when the vehicle was not locked, it has never been broken into or vandalized and there was $3600 worth of electronics to steal, that weren't. I sincerely hope someone would not stoop this low, and that this was an unrelated incident, however, i am compelled to think not.
I'm not "accusing" anyone of anything, however in my personal opinion, it seems a little fishy. Ok VERY fishy. This is my personal opinion on the events that took place. I suggest to anyone to carefully evaluate your choices, there are lots of auto glass shops out there. I feel bad for the owner, he probably has not idea a few "bad apples" are ruining the image of his business. After a quick search of google, i found a formal complaint that had been written to the BBB, forum chit chat about poor customer service, ect, ect:
