California Recovery Systems, Inc. Reviews

Carolyn Griffin March 4, 2011
Failing to send letter stating it was paid in full.
Back on December 7th I contacted California Recoveries Systems, Inc. Spoke with Richard Anthony who was supposed to be a manager. I agreed to pay the 25 percent of the amount owed on the credit card debt in the amount of $180.24 and the 4.16 service fee that they charge using a visa card as form of payment. I was told that the letter would be mailed out in a month once they show it was charged and they didn't receive a reverse of the charge. I never had received a letter. I did get recently a letter from NCO Financial stating that I owed money for the same account that I had already agreed to pay for the lesser amount owed. I contacted California Recovery back and was told by Richard that he would look into it and give me a call back. He never called back. I then called back in 30 minutes. I was told by another associate to lose the number several times. I was given another number to call regarding this account. The number they gave was not a working number. I called them back. I was hung up on several times. I called the following morning and asked to speak with the owner of the company. I was given Mark Anthony who said that he would get a letter sent out to me that day stating that my account was paid in full per the agreed amount. With all the weather issues that we had. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and gave them an extra few days. I still had not received anything after over 2 weeks time. I just tried to contact them and the number is no longer in service. as of 4th of March.

Beware of scam
5/12/10 12:15 PM ish got a call from 916 area code, a Matt (Lin/Lim/Ling? didn't quite catch last name) called me from this company and proceeded to tell me they are trying to recover a debt due to an EFT that came back as NSF - in August 29, 2008. First of all I knew this couldn't be true but he said that didn't matter it will still be reported to the credit agency. I decided to burden myself with disproving him because I knew it wasn't true, though this guy just came off very annoying from the bat. I called him back on the 866-502-2774 ext 3559 number he gave me within 10 minutes to say I have proof. But the person who picked up the phone was fumbling though he just needed to get me to the extension. He asked me instead for reference #s, but did not recognize the two that Matt gave me. So I gave him my name, and then the next thing I heard was, "What is your maiden name?" Apparently Matt had gotten the phone now - and the answer to which either he should already have or doesn't need to know.

So I proceeded to tell him that I have the information proving his accusation wrong, so what I need him to do is send me a formal letter and we'll proceed from there. I said it is very strange that the original owner of the 'debt' didn't contact me - or (incorrectly) resubmit the EFT. He got very haughty and defensive when I said this sounds scammy and went on and on about how the original owner of my 'debt' went out of business (Pay Day Services) but I just cut him short.

Anyway - they reek of something totally unprofessional. Sounds like they are really reaching for a scam here - but this is a bad one an my intelligence is insulted. Maybe Pay Day Services did go out of business and they acquired ALL the client files and they are playing with people. Or maybe, if i give them the benefit of the doubt, Pay Day Services made a mistake on my account and CRS received it that way and did not research whatsoever and CALLS people at work instead of writing a letter and gives them no real reference (intentional, probably) and doesn't care if the debt is valid or not and doesn't care whether they are asking people for sensitive information or is doing negative or illegal things to their credit and during the collection process.

I've seen other complaints of this nature on the web, I hope everyone complains and stops these idiots.

outstanding Obligation
This company sent me a letter dated 4/29/2010 stating that I owed a company named Money & More a total of $507.50.

They also called me several times on my CELLPHONE and left me threatening messeges about legal action if I do not pay this bill. The one time that I made a mistake and answered the phone, I told them that I had no idea what they were talking about and not to call me again.

Now, when I see their number on my cellphone I refuse to answer it. When I got this letter, I immediately sent them a letter asking for ALL the information that they had concerning this debt as I tried to call this Money & More company and could not get any answers from them.

What other options do I have to get rid of these people?

Threatening, verbal abuse
On May 1, 2009 I was contacted via telephone by Maia Lampkin from California Recovery Systems, Inc. She stated I owed a balance on a MasterCard credit card from the year 2000. I told Maia I did not remember having a MasterCard in 2000. We talked and I agreed to make payment arrangements. I told her I was laid off and my husband is a teacher and does not get paid during the summer and any payments would have to made after my husband started back to school in September. I agreed to pay $50.00 per month in the beginning, starting in September, and after a few months I would be able to pay $100.00 per month. I asked Maia to send me an email with a letter saying I owe the debt and her contact information. I explained that I had been a victim of fraud and I had no idea who she was. I also asked her to mail me a letter to my home. Maia did send me an email; however I did not receive a letter in the mail. On 9/02/2009 I received a call from Kelly from California Recovery Systems, Inc. Again, I told Kelly I did not remember having a MasterCard in 2000 but I would make arrangements to pay the bill as I had done with Maia. I explained to Kelly I was laid off and about my husband being a teacher. I told Kelly I could pay $25.00 per month and that is when she became very nasty. She stated she would not accept $25.00 per month and why did I not pay the $100.00 I agreed to in May. The tone in her voice was belittling and she was yelling. I told her I did not like her attitude. She stated she did not like my attitude and said "why don't you just pay your bill lady". I said to her, if I do owe this money do I owe it to her personally. She stated "It doesn't matter who you owe the money to. Just pay your bill lady. You are the reason the country is in the shape that it is in." I really got made at this point and told her to just keep talking because I was writing everything down. I told her she was not following the fair credit and collections practices act of 1978. Kelly stated "its 2009 lady, just pay your bill." She further said, "I will go after your husband's wages". I told her my husband and I were not married in 2000. She stated, "It does not matter, I will do it anyway." I asked for her name and Kelly said, “you should have written it down when I first called”. I told her to just keep talking because I was going to report her to Tallahassee. Kelly got mad, I guess, and hung up. I will be happy to pay this bill if I owe this bill. Apparently I do owe the money because they have my maiden name and contact information. I have had the same telephone number for 9 years. I will be happy to make arrangements with them but I will not be spoken to like I am a criminal or a dead beat. Kelly had no right to tell me I was the reason the country is in the shape that it is in and she had no right to threaten to take my husband's wages. She does not know my husband's name or where he works and my husband and I were married in 2001. We were not married and did not live together at any point prior to 2001. My husband did not sign anything. Again, I will be happy to pay this bill but I can pay as much as I can pay, not what they want me to pay and I will not put up with their indignant threats and poor attitudes.
