I ordered a book through one of Amazon's marketplace sellers back in March. I had ordered a book at the beginning of the semester that was about 7 years old and discovered after my first test that I really needed to get the most current edition. So I decided to order the 2009 - 2010 issue of the texbook, which is what was required of the class. I ordered it. The email they sent me was from campus bookstore and explicitly stated that I had ordered the 2009 -2010 issue of practicing Texas politics. They sent me the 2009 update of a customized edition of the textbook with the same name. It had a different ISBN and half the resale value of the book I had paid for. So I emailed them to inform them that I needed the correct version. A day later I get a response asking for the ISBN of the book I had received. I sent it. I checked my email, and bulk email files everyday for a week before I sent them another email asking why I had not heard from them. I waited another week and I still heard nothing. I wasn't sure what to do because their "returns" instructions said that no item could be returned unless it was "authorized, " which I assumed meant that I would not be reimbursed for the shipping expense and might not get a refund or replacement. So I read Amazon's page about their a-z guarantee. It said that the seller had 30 days to get the original item to the person from the original shipping date. I decided to give them a few more days. In the mean time I informed them that I would order a replacement book from another seller. I get online to discover that all the low-priced used copies of the book were gone and that I would have to spend 80 dollars or more to get a new or like-new copy. So I decided I would just make due with the 2004 version I had purchase earlier in the semester. Meanwhile I still haven't got a response and I am checking every folder just to make sure I did not miss their email. That's when I decided to apply for a refund with Amazon. Keep in mind the wrong book is still sitting here. I had received no apology, no return slip, no nothing. Just the one very short email without even a hint of apology asking for the ISBN. A few days later Amazon issues a refund. I got another email asking for seller feedback. So I got on and described my experience in clear, honest details. This was their response:
"Wrong version/edition sent. My emails trying to resolve the issue were ignored, so I had to go through Amazon to get a refund. Amazon was prompt in resolving the matter and issuing a refund, but I certainly wouldn't bother with Campus_bookstore again. The version of the textbook they sent me had less than half the resale value of the one I purchased. Accident? I think not. "

Seller Response: "The buyer received the exact title and condition ordered, claimed they received the wrong version, and then when we offered a return with a full refund upon verification of the claim in an email, the buyer never returned the item and went to Amazon instead. The buyer ended up with our money and our book, so we wouldn't risk filling another fraudulent order from this buyer in the future." Date: April 20, 2011

So not only do they try and trick their customers into accepting a less valuable book than the one they paid for, but they also decided to lie about the situation and slander anyone who leaves negative feedback. I have never had such a crappy experience from amazon and I order stuff from them all the time. I can't believe they let sellers behave that way!
