We ordered a stock item in very early March. We were quoted that it would take 6-8 weeks for delivery from Quebec (16 hour drive from here). It is now June 12th (14 weeks later) and that item supposedly should be here Monday. There have been several issues. First, our salesperson was unable to reach an English-speaking employee after selecting the language as English on multiple occassions. When she finally got through, they had issues locating the piece in their stock. We provided measurements and pictures and Canadel told us that we measured wrong and tried to sell us a china cabinet base that is 3 inches shorter than the hutch that sits on top of it! We fought back and they eventually found the right piece. So, it was supposed to be by mid-April, right? Well, we were told in early May that it was just finished and ready to ship. We have come to doubt this was true since that was over a month and a half ago. Then we were told 2 weeks ago that it was going through customs and just a few days ago that it made it through customs. 2 weeks in customs? Give me a break! 6 days to drive here from the Canadian border? Once again, give me a break! After much probing a few weeks ago, our salesperson learned that, due to the economy, Canadel was cutting back on production hours to cut labor costs. Well, if they can't manufacture an order in less time than it would take us to build it ourselves by just working a few hours per night after work, they are not providing a service. There will be plenty of ticked off customers who will want price adjustments if they cannot deliver as promised. They should have thought about this before cutting back on production hours. You don't cut back on production costs if it will only cost you more in a scarred reputation.
