My daughter needed extensive dental work that included a number of crowns, extractions, root canals, as well as fillings. To have it fixed in Pennsylvania where we live our first quote was from $10, 000 to $15, 000. Our second quote was $8, 000.
My husband and I are a young couple with two children, with house payments and medical bills we did not have that type of money laying around. We were very concerned to get my daughter April's teeth still fixed so we began exploring options that were cheaper. I began searching online and found Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry.
We bought tickets and flew down to Cancun with the information that April's dentist had given that specifically mentioned which teeth needed fixed as well as what needed done. While we were down there, April's one crown broke off simply from sucking on a straw. When we got home another crown broke off, so we took her to her dentist.
She took one look in her mouth and began counting off the teeth that were not fixed. Out of the 19 teeth that we paid to get fixed and thought Dr. German from Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry had fixed. April's dentist informed us that he had only worked at 8!!! Then we got a quote to fix the remaining 11 the estimate was at $7, 000.
Needless to say we were extremely disappointed in Cancun Dentistry. So I attempted calling, faxing and e-mailing them with absolutely NO response until I e-mailed them and informed them that we are starting proceedings with the international medical tourism bureau. To that I got a grumpy response that they had said that they would fix April's teeth for free. Not only do we not trust them to fix her teeth properly, I told them that we are in the process of selling our house and moving therefore we didn't have the money to buy the tickets or the time to take off of work. I then politely asked them to refund a minimum of 25% of our money. I got a really nasty letter saying all kinds of horrible things!
While I was down I also had two overlays done. Dr. Oscar thought I needed a root canal and was going to but Dr. German then rattled off something in Spanish and then I got an overlay instead. It currently appears that now I will need a root canal here as they didn't do it right down there to begin with.
This situation is extremely discouraging as our finances are really tight now with moving and other medical bills. Our daughter's teeth are still not fixed although she complains almost daily of pain and when you look into her mouth you can actually see the holes. My tooth is so sensitive I can not use that side to eat on except for a few foods.
I do NOT by any means recommend Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry to the people as they will be ripped off! They thought they could take advantage of us beings we did not speak Spanish fluently and we are young age 26 and 27 and our children 3 and 1yr. old.
I am willing to be a contact person for anyone who is interested in dental procedures through Cancun Dentistry. My e-mail is [email protected] my home phone number is 717-866-4089. Thank you very much! Darlene Gehman
