I opened a checking account a little over a year ago with Capital City Bank in Georgia. They are based out of Tallahassee, FL. I was dissatisfied with my current long term bank for personal and business checking, and Capital City seemed to say all the right things with free checking. So, I opened a free checking account with a small $50 opening deposit. Long story short, I decided it just made sense to keep banking where I was. I received a nice apology from my branch manager and some feebies to make me decide to stay where I was. So, the $50.00 I deposited at Capital City just sat there, just in case. Mind you, I never did anything but let the money sit there. A few days ago, I received a letter in the mail from them that they had declared my account "dormant, " and they were going to start charging me $5.00 pe month on this account just because there is no activity. I couldn't believe this. We knew banks were thieves and crooks before just from the fact that they are the largest lobby out there, and they get laws written to favor them over the consumer. Anyway, I decided to just go get my measly $50.00 out of that bank and consider myself lucky. Well, they made me wait 25 minutes, and they were rude, just to close my account and get MY MONEY!

Wow, now banks want to charge us fees for letting our money sit idle...wow.. A friend of mine, who had a BB&T account, showed me a letter from them wanting to do the same thing to him on an old account he had with them that he used to use as an insurance premium deposit washout account for that he forgot about after he got out of the insurance business a little over a year ago. They declared his account "dormant, " and they were going to start charging him $5.00 per month. The banks must have gotten some new law passed to do this as stupid as it sounds. I guess they hope a majority of people don't check their mail or read it, and the banks can just suck down accounts that aren't being watched by their owners until they have it all. Gift cards work the same way, they are charged service fees every month they aren't used. This just shows that banks are just as big a THIEVES AS EVER!

Formerly Mad with Capital City Bank in Georgia...BB&T is pretty much the same...beware and vote with your feet, people!!!
