Capital Meats Reviews

food quality
capital meats delivered to my house for years, and the meat was good, , now occasionally i had some bad meat, but i never blamed someone else because i couldnt cook it right. half of u probley dont even know that you cook a steak frozen right outta the freezer. and another thing is it doesnt matter what meat you buy, in store, buthcher, grow your own, if you dont cook it on low heat and let your busy life's take control of your cooking temps then you'll always have a "tuff" steak. if you eat at a resturant and you dont like it, do you honestly waste your time complaining about it, or do you go to a different resturant...my point.. the guys that go door to door are just hard working men trying to make a living, if you buy from a capital van, you will be happy, ..all these complaints are from people who work for other meat companys and are try'n to put the best down, .. if this company had such bad food as you all say, , then how have they been in business since 1997 is this really the way to spend your time, just come to capital and we will cook you a steak and make your own determanation.. or e-mail me @ [email protected] dont believe these people they work for company's that TRY'N to put us down. i wont buy nothing from no one except the best CAPITAL MEATS TAKE CARE READERS AND GODBLESS

HORRIBLE!
Capital Meats, where do i start? We made the mistake of buying last year, horrible quality, I mean HORRIBLE. Today, I see a man, did'nt get his name, an endomorphic bald man working for capital meats, knocking door to door, trying to get my neighbors to buy. My neighbor, who takes care of his sick parents letting them live with him declines to buy meat. The endomorphic man, starts screaming at my neighbor insisting on talking to his sick parents to try and con them as well. Once again my neighbor declines respectfully, this guys is having a fit over this. I am sitting on my step three houses away, I am watching the whole thing! Then he starts cursing at my neighbor, f*&# this f$#@ that Well that was it for me i said sir, stop harassing my neighbor. Then he begins to scream at me with rage (Personally i think this man was on cocaine). My husband comes out and hears everything he was saying as soon as he seen my very tall husband ran to his truck and sped off. I tell you, you would have to be a fool to actually buy there meat. There are so many more places in Baltimore to buy quality meat at a much better price.

Soliciting
Sunday, December 26, 2010, I was sitting with my family when a load knock and numberous rings on the doorbell. When we opened the door a rough looking woman asked for our help. She said that she was made to come out door to door and sell a product. She was driving in a small truck with Capital Meats painted on the back. The truck had lots of color with Capital Meat logo on the side. She was very persistant and would not take NO for an answer. We were very polite to her but she continue to to say that she was very desperate and wouldn't normally do this expecially over the holiday. She said she would give us the meat at cost $140 if we could please help her out. She even said that she would take down all of our Christmas decorations if we bought this meat from her. She even said that she would come in and cook some meet for us. My husband was the one who answered the door and I never showed my face. I thought that was very odd. After he told her no for the fourth time she finally ran to her truck and speed out the driveway. I got up at looked out the front window and saw the vehicle speeding down our street and there was another guy in the vehicle with her.

failure to refund
I admit I was a fool to make the purchase, but this company is very dishonest and has failed to credit my account for product they took back.

After charging over $300 on my credit card for what I foolishly had been persuaded was a reasonable deal on meat, I figured out that I had spent nearly $10 per pound. I called the salesman the same day and told him I wanted him to come back and get the product and credit my account. He directed me to go through the red tape of sending a certified letter requesting the refund. I followed all the directions as indicated on the company's brochure that he left with me. It took a couple of weeks for him to return to pick up the meat. He claimed he submitted the paperwork the same day to the corporate office and reassured me that in his ten years of working for the company he never knew of them not to credit someone's account for returned product.

I have called numerous times to the number on the brochure since the meat was picked up, and I have left detailed messages requesting my account to be credited. Now, nearly two months later, I still have not been credited. Since I consider this to be theft of my money, I have reported it to the Maryland Attorney General and am hoping that office will get my account credited.

pushy salesmen and bad products
The sales tactics were pushy but in the end it did work because I purchased steaks, chicken and seafood from this company. The quality of the meat is LESS than satisfactory. Does it satisfy your "meat" craving - maybe, but you're much better off purchasing at your local grocery stores (Giant, Safeway, etc). The steaks look good in the packages but one you thaw them they are so thin (the NY strip/Tbone) that a minute on the grill seems to cook them through. The only thing that was decent was the bag of uncooked shrimp. The chicken was ok but very small portions once thawed.
Tried the company - didn't like it and won't ever buy again. Have told all our friends too because they were also "hit" up by these sales guys too. The sales guy was nice so no problem with him but the food just wasn't good.

Bad Meat
Here is the exact letter I submitted to the company; you be the judge.

I've been cooking for about 10 years now. I cook for family, friends, personnel in my military unit, etc. Initially when Charles (The sales guy) displayed the meat it looked pretty good. The steak, although frozen, was a nice red and looked pretty good. When the chicken display was pulled out, he opened the first pack and I stopped him. The chicken was pathetic and tiny. I told him not to bother with chicken. I also told him to forget the seafood because I don't trust frozen seafood, especially because I don't know what kind of care it's been given. He gave me the whole freshness phrase but I told him not to waste his time; what I was interested in was the beef.

Longer story short he passed that he'll give me any case I wanted for $25. Delmonico steaks - when done right - are exquisite. What he did not know is that steak is one of, if not the best food I can cook.

Tonight (5 Feb 10) when I got off work my wife had pulled 2 of the steaks for me to cook. They were sauteed in light butter over low heat until they were a nice medium rare. Here's where the whole reason for comment comes in. The first bite I had was all fat. I realized that the reason the meat was so pink in the first place was because its own blood juice was surrounding it - good trick by the way. The steak tasted like hamburger that has been processed more than dirty toilet water turned into tap water. My wife had at best about 3 "good" pieces.

It's insulting to serve my wife such a terrible piece of meat and it's also insulting that your company would try to pass this (no better word) shit off as "Prime USDA Choice Steaks". At the very least you will refund my money immediately by the end of this coming week. I also expect additional imbursement so that I can by my wife and I Delmonico steaks that I know are of good quality.

Selling Practices
The Maryland/DC Better Business Bureau rates this company as an "F".

A salesman from Capital Meats approached me in my driveway with a hard sell on the meats. I politely declined numerous times. As he returned to his truck he yelled an insulting remark, to the other person in the truck "You were right about the people in this neighborhood", then got into the van and sped off at a very high rate of speed up our residential street. What type of professional salesman insults his potential customers? It would not matter how good the meat was, I would not buy from this company and will make sure everyone I know is aware of this.

Poor Quality Meats/Broken Promises
I have bought 3 times from the salesman from this company. The last two purchases were of good quality and the sales rep was rough but always promised to please. This last purchase, the meat looked fantastic, but the meat has no taste and we cannot eat it. We contacted Capital Meats and the sales rep has been calling with excuses as to why he has not been out to take care of the situation. My next stop is the Attorney Generals Office of Maryland. I will also be leafletting my neighborhood to tell them about my experience and to save them from these thieves. Do not buy from James Endres, the salesman, or listen to his lies! Do not buy meat from men with freezers strapped to their pick up trucks.

Do not buy from this company! Call the police if they come to your door!

Don't buy from this company!
A salesman from Capital Meats has come to my door at least half of a dozen times since I have lived in this house (almost 3 years). The first time, they caught me coming in from my car and stopped me. The men were in very baggy pants (enough that I could see their underwear) and they had gotten out of an old pick up truck with a freezer strapped to the back. I saw their car magnet that said Capital Meats and I stopped them and told them that we were vegetarians and not interested in meat. That should have been enough to get them to leave, but they followed me to my door anyway and proceeded to hard sell me this meat.

There is no way I would even buy meat from that shady looking pick-up truck- even if I did eat meat. The men proceeded to lay meat all over my porch (ew!!) and then he even tried to come in my house (even put his hand on the door and tried to open it) so he could see what kind of freezer I had. I eventually shut the door and locked it. Since that time, they have come back several times.

I no longer answer the door (although once my husband did and he says they were rude to him when he declined their product). When I don't answer the door, they stand out there knocking and ringing for a very long time! It is borderline harassment!!! They don't have any business knocking on my door anyway, because I have a large NO SOLICITING sign. I wouldn't mind if they rang once (even though I already told them we will never want their product) and left, but they RING and RING and RING! I have a sleeping baby, barking dogs, it is such a disruption!!!

I called their Baltimore office (where these salesman are from) to make a formal complaint. The lady who answered said she was the office manager. She wanted my address but I was hesitant to give it to her because I feared backlash from the shady looking 'salesman.' I asked her to at least enforce a ring-once policy but she said she couldn't do that due to hard of hearing elderly people (who they should leave alone anyway!!!). So I asked about a policy of not ringing the bell of people who had a No Soliciting sign and she said she could not enforce that either because those signs are mostly for religious people.

What??? My sign is to deter annoying, relentless salesman! I told her if they stood outside of my door ringing and ringing again, that I would call the cops. She proceeded to just talk over me, telling me she wouldn't let me speak bad about a great company (Everyone on my street hates to see that nasty truck pull up!!) that she has worked for for 6 years and she told me I must have a miserable life and hung up on me. So much for making a formal complaint. I wasn't even rude to her, as I know *she* was not the one knocking on my door, but she must have been very upset that I did not want them to come to my door and that I wouldn't give her my address.

If this is such a great company, then the least they could do is update their POS trucks with coolers strapped to the back to nicer looking freezer vans/trucks that look like they actually keep the meat cold! And they could enforce some sort of dress code to the salesman so they look less like bums and more like professionals. And lastly, don't be so rude and pushy and don't harass people! Many of my neighbors have told me that the salesman are rude if you say no. The neighbors who did buy their meat, regretted it as they were flavorless, tough, cheap cuts of meat.

Don't buy from this company!!

tresspassing
Yesterday at 6pm my husband and I were out back playing with our son when a strange man came into our back yard and approached us. He said he was from Capital Meats and had one case of meat left if we were interested. He was about 6'2" with dark hair. He spoke so quickly I almost didn't understand him. We felt very uncomfortable by his demeanor and as soon as we said no he bolted. When my husband followed him back around to the driveway he noticed another man running up our driveway. They got into a small red pick up truck with a white cooler attacthed in the back. They left the development immediately without stopping at any other house. We were still in the back yard looking at each other dumbfounded and they honked at us several times as they drove down Conway, which butts up against our back yard.

I called our next door neighbor and she said one of the men came to her door during the same time and she thought it was very strange as well. I called the police and they were concerned. They sent an officer to the house and that officer told us that they were trying to locate the two men in the truck. He added that people are not allowed to solicit like that.
