Fraud
Do not get a Capitol One card. I tried a secured card inorder to build credit. They locked my account up over B.S. security questions. After months of this, I told them to send my deposit back. They wanted me to do an ID verification through my bank. This isn't something they do.

They finally wanted me to send more money for fees. I told them to take the fees out of the deposit, which they agreed to. Then they told me it could take sixty days to get it back. This was three months ago. I even sent them a copy of my FTC complaint. #4 customer of US postal service??

Not receiving promotional interest rate
I received an offer from Capital One for convenience checks with a promotional rate of 5.99% as long as checks posted by 11/15/2010. So I wrote two checks on 11/7. The first posted to Capital One within a few days and I received the promotional rate on it. The second posted to the Capital One card on 11/15. When I received my statement though, I did not get the promotional rate even though the mailing clearly stated in multiple places the offer was good through 11/15. Thankfully I kept all the paperwork. So Capital One is INCORRECTLY charging the wrong interest rate on this transaction, a much higher one of 17.9%. I phoned Capital One and was on the phone for 30 minutes with a representative stationed God-knows-where who could not help. The supervisor he transferred me to was better; she is sending this over to another department to review. Just in case that is not enough to get this corrected, I just wrote their "disputes" department, and am sending copies of all the paperwork I saved, including the initial offer which clearly states "must post by 11/15. Here's what I am sending them, minus of course the dollar amount and other information that is personal. And my caveat to you reader, is to save paperwork and check your statements carefully, especially when dealing with Capital One. I am writing to notify you that you have made an error in the interest rate being applied to the transaction dated November 15, 2010. That check qualified for a special transaction rate. Please see the following attachments: Attachment A – copy of letter from you “Dated Notification” . It states “Act by 11/15/2010 and get a 5.99% APR for 12 months. It also says “limited-time”…. “must post to your account by November 15, 2010. Attachment B – copy of second part of letter from you, right above the checks you sent. See the section titled “Use-by-date”; it clearly states “these checks must post to your account by November 15, 2010 for the promotional APR to apply. Attachment C – copy of statement from you showing that the check for $xxx posted on November 15, which means it qualifies for the 5.99% interest rate. Please rectify your error immediately, adjust the interest rate retroactively to the 5.99% rate that should have been charged. Otherwise, I will be taking legal action.

FRAUD AND FAIR CREDIT REPORT ACT, DEFAMATION
ON AUG 18TH 2010 MY HUSBAND AND I CALLED CAPITAL ONE TO MAKE SURE WE COULD USE ONE OF THOSE CHECKS THEY SEND YOU, WE JUST SENT THEM A 4000.00 PAYMENT FOR AUG AND SEPT, BUT THEY TOLD US NO PROBLEM ARE ACCOUNT IS FINE AND WE CAN USE IT, AS WE WERE ABOUT TO HANG UP MY HUSBAND WAS DOING A LINE OF CREDIT FOR ARE COMPANY BUT THEY CALLED TO TELL US CAPITAL ONE HAD REPORTED US 30 DAYS OVER FOR AUG AND THIS WAS AUG 18TH SO WE TALKED TO A SUPERVISOR SAID IT DIDN'T MAKE SENSE GIVE HIM 3 DAYS TO INVESTIGATE AND HE WOULD GET BACK TO US SO WE WAITED INSTEAD I GOT A CALL FROM MY BANK ON AUG 24TH TELLING ME CAPITAL ONE RETURNED THE CHECK WIPING US OUT OF EVERYTHING EVEN ARE LITTLE SAVINGS ON AUG 25TH I WENT TO MY BANK AND WE CALLED CAPITAL ONE THEY TALKED TO ARE BANK MANAGER AND SAID IT WAS A MISTAKE AND THEY COULD DO ANOTHER CHECK AND PROMISED HER IT WAS GOOD AND THERE'S NO PROBLEMS AND SAID WE COULD DO IT FOR 3500.00 1ST ONE WAS 3000.00 BUT ALL THEY RETURNED BANK FEE'S LATE FEE'S SO ARE BANK MANAGER TOOK IT AND DEPOSITED INTO ARE ACCOUNT ON AUG 31ST MY BANK CALLED AGAIN AND SAID THEY RETURNED THE CHECK AGAIN COMPLETLY NOW DEVESTATING US, AND STILL WAITING FOR THE SUPERVISOR TO CALL AND NEVER DID BUT BECAUSE OF THAT THEY TURNED DOWN THE LINE OF CREDIT ON SEPT 20TH WE RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THEY MADE A MISTAKE BUT IT TAKE UP TO 60 DAYS TO REMOVE FROM YOUR CREDIT SO THE COST US 30, 0000.00 FOR A LINE OF CREDIT CAUSE WE WERE HIRING AND PUTTING MEN BACK TO WORK WE NEEDED THAT HELP FOR PAYROLL BUT WE HAVE JOBS THROUGH NEXT YEAR SO THEY KILLED US MONEY WISE ON ARE COMPANY ALSO SO I HAD TO VERBAL CONTRACTS ABOUT USING THERE CHECKS AND I EVEN CALLED BEFORE I DID IT SO SOMETHING LIKE THIS WOULDN'T HAPPEN BUT I HAVE TRIED TO WORK IT OUT CAUSE THEY OWE ME MASSIVE OVERDRAFT FEE'S, LATE FEE'S, 30, 000.00 LINE OF CREDIT SO I WILL NOT PAY MY BILL WE ARE TO EAT THE LOSS AND IT'S A BIG LOSS BUT THEY HAVE THE NERVE TO CALL ME FOR ARE PAYMENT AND THEY SAID WE HAD A CONTRACT YOU HAVE TO MAKE YOUR PAYMENTS WELL YES WE HAD A CONTRACT AND THEY BROKE THE CONTRACT TWICE WITH ME AND MY BANK SO ARE CONTRACT IS NOW IN VOID THEY ARE SO UNORGINIZED THEY DON'T EVEN REALIZE THE LETTERS THEY SENT ME AN I'M GOING ALL THE WAY I WANT TO SUE THEM AND NO CLASS ACTION PERSONALLY AFTER WHAT THEY HAVE DONE TO US BROKE AND DESTITUDE I'M 100% DISABLED COULDN'T EVEN GET MY MEDICATION OR MY HUSBANDS HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATIONS IN WHICH HE'S ON 3 AND THEY DIDN'T CARE AND STILL DON'T SO BECAREFUL DON'T USE THERE CHECKS OH ALSO THEY HAVE HAD US LOCKED OUT OF ARE ACCOUNT BEFORE THIS HAPPENED AND WE HAVE BEEN ASKING THEM TO UNLOCK IT I HAD TO PHONE IN MY PAYMENTS BUT COULNDN'T SEE ARE ACCOUNT IN FACT IT STILL IS LOCKED. Threating phone calls even AFTER a payment
I realized that I had missed my payment (the first time I've missed one in a year) so I signed on 11/28/10 and made a payment for the amount that was due at my last due date 11/18/10. I got a call today threatening me that they were going to report me to the credit bureau and that would get me in "Big trouble". Which is not true. I made my payment before my next one was due and should be back to good standing. He told me if I didn't pay the rest of the amount (the remainder is due 12/18/10) that I would be in trouble and be fined. He raised his voice to me when I tried to interject and I had to ask him to let me speak. Twice. Finally he did and I told him what he was telling me was not the truth and that I knew my rights. He raised his voice to me again and when I again told him that if I had made my payment there was no issue and the rest is due 12/18/10 and unless I'm late on that payment they weren't allowed to report me. Legally. He mumbled something about "fine, I'll note your account" and hung up on me. I can't believe they are resorting to threatening and verbally abusive phone calls like that!

Charging fees account not activated
CAPITOL ONE started charging annual fees even before I recieved credit card in mail which i did NOT activate.I think all consumers should be aware of what the application says even though it is printed so small most adult could not possibly read the fine print. It too 3 represenatives to work on the issue and cancel the cad that was not activated anyway to resolve this issue. The customer service department after getting through the computer base phone system was less than consumer friendly. 30 minutes on the phone to settle an account closeure is ridiculous. Alll consumer beware wth capitol one Whats in your Wallet not capitol one

Don't do business with them
I have been a Visa Signature account holder with CapitalOne for a number of years. I've been lead to believe that not just anybody is able to obtain a "Signature" account. That holds little value with CapitalOne. I was looking into redeeming some of my reward miles and discovered I was 28 days past due on a whopping $68. What really angered me was that I had never received a paper bill nor an email informing me of my balance. I immediately scheduled an online payment through my bank. I then proceeded to try and purchase an airline ticket. Guess what? CARD DENIED! I called CapitalOne, got disconnected from the first representative and called back. After receiving the run around I told them I wanted to speak with a manager. Same thing from the manager. They refused to re-instate my account till payment had been received. Had my account had a history of late payments or past due balances I might have been able to understand; however, considering my account has never been past due or even carried a balance, I was livid.

If this is the way they treat their high value accounts, they can keep them. I'll be taking the remainder of my business elsewhere. I'll never do business with CapitalOne again.

Where is my secure fund
Hello, I have apply for secure credit card capital one, I have send my money order with my secure fund form in april 2 2010, today april 18 2010 I have to call everyday to know where or what happen with my money that suppose in 10 days they will recive, they say when I call that they don't have, or call in 5 days.I think when the credit card company do this to contumer people have to stay away because this busines is nothing serios but if in 5 days my fund don't show up I will take serios matter in this staff bicause they like o ya the people pay, they lay to people like dog, they like to steal every people know but I will in 5 days take action about it.Where is my money order?How know, so I have the proof, serie number, everything that proof I send to capita one.If some people can help me thank you very much.

Deceptive and dishonest
Capital One didn't send notice of rate increase. When I received statement with increase notice, they wouldn't let me opt out - too late. When I called this February to find out why the disclosure notice wasn't on the statement, they said it would be on the next one. They also told me that if I pay just the minimum payment, the payoff time was "never". Then miraculously my credit card was cancelled. I called to find out why - they said I called and cancelled it. I did not, but they refused to admit it or fix it.

protection plan
i was terminated at my job since june 2009 and i call capital one to activate my payement protection plan what they failed to do, and today my credit card of $500 its up to 800 balanced due.

do not believe their promotional rate!
About a year ago (late 2007), Capital One offered an incredible 0.00% interest rate (with 3% transfer fee) until January 2010. This was unheard of. And Capital One is Capital One -- a supposedly reputable company (based on their ads on TV, I guess).

This past month in November, I paid off the entire balance ($20, 000) -- 2 months before the deadline. Guess what. The December statement shows that there is $150 of finance charge!

I phoned the 1-800 number, and the customer representatives are in Costa Rica and India, all speaking with an unusal accent, with really bad (satellite) connections. (There wasn't even "Your call will be monitored for training purposes" recording.) I had to phone four times and repeated the same story.

Guess what? One annoyed customer respresentative said that the promotional rate was good only through 11/09, the last month. When I told her that I have a document that shows the rate was good through 01/10, she said she would transfer me to an account specialist.

The transfer to an account specialist never happened because the connection got disconnected.

I tried again twice more with the same scenario of the transfer being disconnected (supposedly) because of bad connections!

What a bad business practice!

What contempt they have for common people!
