I called back to tell them to stop harassing me. Have never had a Cap 1 card and I am on the do not call list. Turns out someone with different middle initial opened an acct w/my phone number and the rest of my name. I gave my address to Cap 1 so that they could send me fraud info and straighten this out. Today I rec'd a letter asking for every piece of my info including copy of license and copy of ss card, etc telling me they would straighten it out. I also received a letter telling me that they had determined that I am liable and they are pursuing me. Spent more frustrating hours on the phone being transferred and disconnected. They want my ss# to pull my good credit report. I pay my bills every month and have good credit. I don't trust them now that they have my address and are sending me paperwork saying they are going after me. I have told countless reps my dob and last 4 of ss # but all for naught. I was stupid to give any information to these frauds. Beware!!! They seem to be trying to get all my info to pin it on me. Why is the burden on me to prove who I am when they should have checked out the identity of whomever they are issuing cards to?!? Now I'm wondering if the person really used my phone number in the first place when opening the account or if Capital One added my phone number on their own.
